  1. My first Fawcett, Master Comics 61. Not in the best shape however.
  2. HP Books in my area are pretty good on prices for the most part, though I've found they can be a bit over priced on the older stuff for the grade it is in.
  3. I had my first CL buy the other day. Not king's ransom type of find. I picked up a Justice League America 69 second print, the entire Robin I mini series, two copies of Batman 457 and 6 or so pre death of Superman triangle books for 1.00 each issue. Everything was at least NM. Somebody had all ready stopped by and bought all of his ASM...for a dollar a piece.
  4. Im not a professional by any means but if I got that copy in the mail I wouldn't be happy. Dinged up corner and noticeable spine issues. No chance at that being a 9.8 from even the most generous of graders. Well he only claims it to be a 9.6 but after looking at the scans I don't think even a 9.6 is in the realm of possibility. That's part of the reason he doesn't sell those raw books here with those grades. More suckers on Ebay. That book isn't even 9.4. A 9.2 would be super generous. It is a 9.2 in my opinion. But it is hard to tell with cover the way it is. But you can see a few defects for sure, such as the blunted corner. I don't see how that would be a 9.6 or a 9.8.
  5. Is that a mecha- dolphin? It sure is. I can't believe I passed this up when when it came out. (thumbs u
  6. You are in for a huge treat. I wish I could read these for the first time one more time. Ellis' run starts with Stormwatch #37 of Volume 1. It continues through the entirety of Stormwatch Volume 2 and it also includes Stormwatch/Aliens. It ends in The Authority Volume 1. I think Millar's run on The Authority should also be included. He closed out the first volume of the series. You will never look at superheroes the way after you read these books. The Authority and Planetary took liberties and shots at both Marvel's and DC's complacency imo. The only thing I would add that you might want to read with these runs is Action Comics #775. It was DC's answer to how Superman stacks up against an Authority like group. Had his time come and gone or was he still relevant ? The Authority is my favorite series of all time but there is no question that Supes had his place even during that very tumultuous time. Thanks for the info. Looking forward to reading it.
  7. I remember back when NM 98 hit the stands, Deadpool wasn't that big of a deal, with most of people I knew. People were much more into New Mutants/X-force due to Liefeld being involved. I was shocked coming back to comics this year and finding out that Deadpool was huge. As for other comics from the late 90's/early 00s gaining some steam. As RMA points out, print runs are pretty low, so the conditions are right if they get noticed at some point. Not much downside to buying quality runs for a dollar a book. But I'm glad for this thread, I didn't even know about Ellis's Stormwatch, Authority and Planetary. That all happened as I was getting out of comics back then. And even better I can probably get 'em for a dollar too.
  8. Oddly, Rob Liefeld tweeted that Domino's first appearance was New Mutants #98. Wikipedia says #11. Does Rob know that copycat was playing Domino in NM 98? Was that -script rewritten? How does someone who has never been seen before get impersonated first? Good point!
  9. Time to pull my copies of 2 and 11 and burn the rest of the run Why would you burn them? X-Force showcased the best in belt pouch fashion. But yeah, I look at my X-Forces and think what the hell was I thinking. Thankfully I didn't buy a long box of X-Force #1.
  10. Crazy that X-Force 2 is going up in price, maybe people are settling for the 2nd Deadpool appearance since NM 98 is getting pricey. I wonder if X-Force #11 is going to take off too. That has a plus of also having the first Domino. I haven't been able to find that one locally at all. Methinks speculators are buying them up.
  11. Sharp copy! Takes dedication to find 9.8s even this old. You have a fantastic collection. Around my area at local shops it is a rare day to find a 9.8 comic over 20 years old. And ebay is a crapshoot for 9.8 grades.
  12. I thought it was pretty good. The acting felt a bit forced in the beginning, but I felt it got a bit better by the end. The cast is pretty solid, I think they will grow into the characters by mid season. Besides I have yet to see Donal Logue do a bad role (bring back Terriers!) My biggest complaint was the forcing of all the villains into the pilot.
  13. Since I am trying to get full runs, I figured It would be a handy reference.
  14. Thanks for the heads up, I've been looking for a copy.
  15. Never been that keen on the Hellcats issues of OFF, but being a completist they have to be gotten. Never cared that much for the dino SSWSs but in recent years I've grown to like 'em. Either way, completing a Big 5 set in decent shape is a huge undertaking. I never cared for the dinos, either, but after picking up the thick Showcase collected edition of them, The War That Time Forgot, I realized that they're so bad, they're good. I haven't read any of the SSWS dino issues yet, but I figured they were so bad they were good. As kid I only read a few of the later issues of Sgt. Rock in the 80s. But I never got much more into war comics other than that. But after getting back into collecting this spring after a hiatus of 15 years, I've found I really enjoy them for the most part. Not sure if I'll get them all, but the completionist in me will give it a go for sure.
  16. Annual #3. Deadpool's second appearance doesn't move the needle despite NM #98 being so hot (we point copies of X-Force #2 out to kids who drool over NM #98 when we do shows, and we can't even sell them at $5). I can't think of any Copper second appearances that have broken out; maybe there are some but I can't think of any. Why would second Nightwing be a big deal over any other second appearance? X-Force #2 had a print run at, or over, a million copies. So, there's a bit of a supply factor involved. But yes, the "second appearance" has taken a nosedive in popularity, across the board. Where second, third, fourth appearances used to command respectable money (like, say, Legion of Supes, or Batman, as a classic example, or J'onn J'onzz, or much of Showcase and B&B)...now, if it's not a first appearance, everyone turns their nose up at it. Which either may herald a buying opportunity, or the end of the value of later appearances. Reminds me to something similar with baseball cards in that everyone wants the rookie cards, and could care less about there second or third year cards. I wonder when this trend started to take precedence in comic books? Yeah I find it strange that people don't seem to care about the 2nd, 3rd, 4th appearances anymore. It's all about the first appearance now. Maybe it is a combination of the sports cards mentality and people don't seem do runs anymore.
  17. Best of luck in your quest. Boardie, thirdgreenham, has done it twice. Egads twice, that is a feat!
  18. First three silvers for DC War that I purchased this summer. I'm finding war comics a bit tough to find, and nice copies even harder. I think it is going to take a while to complete a run of the five books. GIC #102 OAAW #141 OAAW #144
  19. Short answer: Yes Longer answer: God Bomb arc was my favorite, not terribly crazy with where it is now but it's still better than almost every other Marvel boom on the shelf. Just my +1 Thanks, I'll check it out.
  20. On a related note, I'm pretty much a DC reader (and some Image) these days. Is Aaron's Thor worth picking up?
  21. Yeah it was the first and second printing of Deities and Demigods that had both Cthulhu and Melnibonean mythoi. But Chaosium had the license for both, so TSR took them out on the third printing. But the Red Box is a classic as are B2, B3 and X2. B3 is also interesting it was the first module written by a woman, and there is a rare orange cover variant that is worth some nice money. TSR had this version destroyed before the release due to some questionable content and other issues. The green copy is a revised version.
