  1. You know, when someone steps up and -- out of nowhere -- performs a big gesture of generosity towards a relative stranger, that is an act of kindness. But when that same person gets a reputation for doing so, and yet, year after year, continues to do so, and continues to top themselves in finding ways to make someone they don't know happy? That's the action of an inherently kind person.

  2. To be clear, I DID pay the $15 in shipping, even though he stated he would cover the shipping. Also, I think pretty clearly I've shown this isn't about the money to me. It was never an issue in the transaction, it never came up until one his posts yesterday. There was zero debate, the price was asked, I agreed. He confirmed acceptance, he provided his address via PM as further confirmation of the deal. I sent a check.

The deal was clear! (thumbs u

  3. I swear, I ran into a guy/manager like this in my LCS in San Jose back when I was 22 - I put up with it for a few months, but his banshee-like screeds got the best of me, and I was so traumatized, I left the game for the next 8-10 years. Scarring. I was head-shy for quite a while until the beginnings of the internet started to kick in and I realized I didn't actually have to TALK to anyone, you know, in REAL LIFE anymore. Books just showed up to my house like a pizza delivery. No muss, no fuss!!!

  4. I watched Suicide Squad last night and quite frankly, I cannot see what all the complaining is about. For those of you who watched it and didn't like it, all I can say is you either went in with your mind already made up or watched a completely different movie!

Or they just have a different opinion than you.

  5. Man, I wanted to like this one - but WOW. Terrible -script. HQ was alright, but too restrained... am I good, am I bad - predictable stuff. Bah. Oh well.

    Which movie is crappier?

    MOS, BvS or SS?

    In order:

    BvS...MOS....................SS

Agreed... but I really had high hopes for SS, so in my mind it's the worst one yet. Even great acting can't save bad writing. It feels like it was written by an algorithm, and Marvel uses real live humans.

  6. Despite the outpouring support from his customers and friends, I think you have the right to be annoyed. I am pretty patient on delays, but once he ignored your pm yet had time to post :cloud9: in another sales thread, that would have been it for me as well.

Thanks - if a buyer posted they would sent "prompt payment" but failed to do so, then sent a PM that they would send payment but failed to do so, then sent a PM oops forgot to pay so will express payment when I get home from vacation but failed to do so, then read your PM asking what's up but didn't respond and almost two weeks (total) had passed, well what to do?

Why do we tolerate lazy shippers? If the roles were reversed (non-payment), people would be up in arms.

    Bingo!

  7. I think the best function of the HOS are these conversations about whether a member is HOS worthy. That is when I place the name on my do-not-deal-with list. After that, I really don't go looking at either the Probation or HOS list before every transaction. I look at the list I created from the Probation Discussions thread!

Does anyone else do this? Do you look to the two lists before every transaction?

  8. I'm glad I took the chances I did when I was younger to achieve my dreams. If I would have listened to what every one else told me I would be making a fifth of what I do now, and would have missed out on some exciting things. You have to follow your heart in these situations, right or wrong. Better than living with what ifs.

    Yup. No regrets!

  9. Van Gogh said this:

"For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream. What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?

I dream of painting and then I paint my dream."

    Sounds pretty wonderful to me.

When I took my daughters to the Met my eldest cried when she was confronted by Starry Night.

The beauty and joy in the piece came from the heart of the artist. You have to have something personal to convey in your art or else you are working a trade.

Totally agree! What a great memory with your daughter!

  10. Exactly my experience Artboy. The students that could actually draw were loathed by the instructors.

In response to the other comments of why didn't I put myself out there-I worked with several writers, had several books printed, won an award with my Mr X story, Tales From the Void was lauded at comicon, books are on websites, reviewed and lauded. I did everything humanly possible-there are just way too many talented wannabe artists and writers out there. In a field that has maybe one job opening a year. The current comic artists many of them have to struggle to find work.

when people ask me how do you break into comics I tel them 'you don't'.

To the guy who said maybe I'm just not very good - bite me.

Unfortunately, there are no guarantees in life. You can work hard and do all the things you're supposed to do... but at the end of the day, if it wasn't meant to be, it may not work out the way you expect. But this has no baring on talent or ability.

The beauty of art is that you can continue to practice it and enjoy it. Keep drawing and painting with no expectations and stay active. Wonderful things WILL happen.

Totally agree. Art isn't a waste of time for everyone. If it is, don't do it... it's all about learning how you fit in this world. Doing something over and over again that you hate will make you bitter.

I loved drawing so maybe I shouldn't have said it was a waste of time. But after 30 years, it's ok to throw in the towel.

    Ah! Got it.
