  1. I think it would be fun to show a properly blurred out screen shot to validate my integrity. It would make the accusers eat crow. (shrug)

And just feed the mob for the next time.

And show the time stamp again... Takes about 40 seconds.

This sounds best if said in the voice DeNiro in The Untouchables.

Some things are insisted have transparency, and some are not.

Cool! I'd just have fun with it, that's all. Different strokes and all that.

  3. Also, my concern is this. Let's say I list an ASM #1 Fine for $10,000. Someone says :takeit: pending scan. I post the scan and then they say "I'll Pass" Now in actuality the book is a Fine and there is nothing wrong with it but what happened was in the time between posting and my putting up the scans the seller got cold feet for having to fork over $10,000 and used the escape clause of "not liking the scan" rather then just saying s/he didn't want to pay for it. Now in everyone else's mind there is a seed planted that there is something "wrong" with the book because why did person x pass on it and maybe they saw something that the other interested parties are missing. Thus people may pass on the book.

That is a good point and why someone posting a $10,000 book should have scans in the first place.

    Excellent point

You post a scan with the book, all of discussion is out the window

    Bingo!

  4. I imagine there's a few who'd use this methodology to make an offer, making an offer on a book held " :takeit: pending scan" is a weasel move IMHO

    :D

I had one person here do that. Took it pending scan and then tried to negotiate the price, not because of anything in the scan, but because the price didn't leave them enough profit margin.

And thus, ended all possible buyers from buying it outright. The :takeit: was used as a placeholder. This is my fear. :)

  5. When is using PayPal personal 'generally' okay to buy stuff. I sincerely ask, because I do pay that way when I'm asked and don't when I'm not. Is that what you mean?

    Dan

Well, I partially put "generally" because I dislike stating absolutes. But I would say things that are similar to the items that PayPal references - say there's a 2-for-1 sale and I go in with a friend to buy two, and I pay my friend half via PayPal. Or like in the charity threads mentioned, even if it wasn't "officially" sanctioned by calling first, if you were buying something to help someone out, particularly if you were friends with the person. That sort of thing.

But just a usual transaction between two people? Not so much.

.... this is me as well. I feel that when I signed up to use Paypal I agreed to certain conditions which I try to respect. I have people offer to use Personal and I usually ask them not to. It's more difficult to account for in record keeping and on a more quantitative note, it negates my seller's protection and my ability to link "tracking" to a sale. I actually like Paypal..... and they can't do their thing for free. GOD BLESS...

  6. You would think someone trying to sell his own books here would have a little more common sense. Nominate him for the PL.

Common sense seems to be in short supply these days.

You know, he just rolled in here from eBay/Facebook/Instagram/wherever and wants to apply the same flippant behavior here that apparently goes on there. RUDE AWAKENING TIME.

I think you are on to something. The FB/Instagram groups are run much differently than these sales boards are.

  7. Finally able to track down a high grade copy that's been on my list! :D

Damn that is seriously awesome. (worship)

so that is a giant frankenstein dude who eats female vampires or are this tiny female vampires?

It's my unscientific opinion that the vampire ladies are very, very tiny.

  8. I am VERY anti-MB, but I thought the whole point of paying $150 was that you MIGHT get less than your value, OR that you MIGHT get more.

Is it always implied in MB's that one should expect to at least get the amount put in? How can a MB seller make any money that way?

    Dan

It can't be implied when it's in black and white in the sales rules of the thread

My bad... thank you for the clarification! (thumbs u

  10. Thank you, Sharon for describing how you and others have worked with PP on the charity threads. That is truly cool. Your rationale for your current complaint is sound to me, for what that is worth.

I have used Personal in the past, but felt weird each time I've done it. So now, I am prone to just suggest an additional 3% that I happily pay. TBH, I've thought that most people on here also rarely, if at all, use Personal. I read the rules that way - but I guess it's easier in PM's to negotiate something else? (shrug)

I will never again send personal to a seller - and if that's a deal breaker, so be it.

On another collector site for stuff I dig, they are paypal personal almost exclusively and practically demand it. I have been one of the very few that ask to pay additional to make sure I'm covered, because frankly, that's what worries me the most - protection.
