  1. I just don't get it. This kind of stuff pays his rent given that he's hardly doing any work for comics nowadays (and at $100 a pop, his con sketches pay, per hour, MUCH better than any work he does for comics nowadays where an editor will tell him to do it over if he hands in krap (seriously, this guy was never a star, just a name and 20+ years later people decided his covers were kindah artistic and quirky)).

Classic example of spiting your nose to cut off your (ahem) face (benis). It's not like this fanboy waited 3 minutes and got frustrated. He waited 3 YEARS... and paid cold hard cash that could have bought pizza and sprites 9X over.

  2. This is just plain awful. I suppose he doesn't care that quite a few folks read these boards and that his reputation has taken a hit. Although it seems he's behaved this way in the past.

I'm always excited when I hear about great commissions from artists and have already used these recommendations to get new work. This guy wouldn't even make my list if he paid me.

I think this scribble should become the board mascot, too!!!!

  3. I'd think it would imply an interest in making a purchase but I don't think it constitutes an official offer. I'd hope they would have the decency to at least thank you for responding and then following up with some direction as to their inclination to purchase, i.e. "Thanks for letting me know. I'm not ready to purchase yet, but I really like that issue and might be able to buy in the next week or two."

That's just me though. Not probation thread worthy but certainly lacking in some manners if no follow up comes through.

Unless there's an 'I'll take it' in there somewhere...conditional or otherwise...it's not a formal offer.

It's poor form, admittedly, but then it does help you identify whose PMs to answer next time. :insane:

I think it is bad form, too. I am interested in what you would consider, or what we should as a community consider, a formal offer so that a pm like this won't be offered up. To me, it constituted a sale when he said, "Will you take..." Thoughts?

It's an offer when there is no other conclusion to draw other than that an offer has been made.

'Would you take...' is vague enough to throw up a number of explanations, as far-fetched as they might be.

I was only asking to ascertain what the pricing point is on this book as I have a copy of my own to sell.

There's an explanation that would fit 100% with the question.

Not very likely, but there is a loop-hole.

And in your hypothesis the unintended benefit would be that we would then be able to ascertain, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the guy asking the question is a 100% douchebagatron for blue balling the seller.

  5. Here's the only problem I see with this discussion's current direction:

There aren't many other involved in it.

I think if you guys want to seriously entertain thoughts like this (which is fine either which way), it'd be good to get more a group consensus before moving forward with any decisions on behalf of the community when it appears quite likely much of the community isn't directly involved in the discussion.

2c for what it's worth, but might be a good idea to draw in some other opinions on this before committing ink to paper. :foryou:

I beg to differ - the thread started by kryptospidey drew tons of discussion and the condemming of Frank was pretty much universal. And then there's the 80 people who voted in the poll 4 pages back.

How many more people do you want involved?

If thats the case people voted for yannis the same way (shrug)

    :gossip: Agreed again.

    Let the forgetting begin...

  6. Hall of Shame, for sure. It's the only way we'll remember this. Otherwise, it'll be forgotten in a week and the original buyer who broke no rules will still be out his book he saved and worked hard to achieve. Meanwhile the book will end up in someone's sig line as his third undercopy.

  7. We live in a litigious society where on the street (snitching) and in the court room (the fifth) it is best to shut your yap and let it blow over. Also, blame the victim as often and as loud loudly as possible. It re-directs the focus from the original transgression. Yannis decided to cancel a deal with a new guy and cut his friend a deal. End of summary. Also, there was a claim that Yannis would end up with two comic thugs at his door, ready to beat him and his. And people wonder why us comic nerds get a bad rap.
