  1. I respectfully disagree. 1. It's a DC. 2. Shazam is a second-tier title, with a third-tier (at best) super-hero. :p 3. S28 may be scarce, but only because the title was a total FAIL (after the C.C. Beck issues), and in a nose-dive at the time. :p 4. Black Adam? Your kiddin' me right? opinions vary, but other common books that feature Black Adam are doing good as well. not my book. DC Comics Presents 49 Thanks! Going to pull that one tonight! (thumbs u There indeed appears to be some interest: DC Comics Presents 49 Other recent sales. I'm surprise All-New Collectors' Edition #C-58 (June 1978): "When Worlds Collide" is not a hot item yet. It's his 2nd full appearance. If I remember correctly he battles Supergirl. The only reason I can think of why DC Comics Presents #49 is a hot item right now...maybe one day Warner Brothers will feature a film having Captain Marvel & Superman battling Black Adam, BUT that would be after a Superman Vs. Captain Marvel fight. Soooo JLA #137 might be on the next hot item list. http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=5014481 I read somewhere that the Shazam movie won't take place in the Justice League universe, but that could always change.
  2. $5.01 actually. how so? Does your LCS charge shipping & handling when you get to the register? shipping on that was $3, not $5. and yes, that means the book was worth $3.01 to someone for them to own it. justification for it maybe being a $1-$3 book in a comic shop or non-shipping setting for sure. almost anything can be justified at that price. but it didn't "sell for" $3.01 as far as the seller is concerned. it sold for a penny and the seller needs to figure out how to get it to the buyer with the other $3. maybe they can ship it for $2.25? maybe. after fees they have lost money I think or got pretty close. certainly not a basis to price it at $3 later on and then charge $4 shipping. (of course, a seller can try whatever they want...) Of course, if that issue was just an add-on for a buyer who was already buying something and getting combined shipping, then it was purchased for a penny.
  3. I'm tempted to say that the German version of Giant-Size X-men is "heating up" but rather I think there's going to be one very disappointed buyer: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Giant-size-xmen-1-/151415706803?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item23411454b3&nma=true&si=cGhNWzAsp2GLsmCYshZeS80DpOY%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
  4. A bit of serendipity. I just finished reading Swamp Thing #20 and on the last page was this ad: I wonder what those labels would sell for, if you had one.
  5. Deadpool 1997 ongoing #1 for $100: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Deadpool-1-1997-NM-NM-MT-Joe-Kelly-Ed-McGuinness-/351126780952?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item51c0c97c18&nma=true&si=qZTtYX1lDtoy0HOKfNJAGD2n7LI%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
  6. Congrats Chip. Don't know what's more dumbfounding. This or X-Force 2 prices. The End is near!! Or the number of bids on them: http://www.ebay.com/itm/X-Force-2-Sep-1991-Marvel-2nd-App-of-DeadPool-9-2-9-4-After-New-Mutants-98-/261595457491?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item3ce84de7d3&nma=true&si=qZTtYX1lDtoy0HOKfNJAGD2n7LI%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
  7. I saw one go for $25 with one bid and I thought that was a fluke. Time to break out my copies I guess.
  8. What would you pay for a lot of trashed common books? Someone thinks $200 sounds good: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Mutants-98-1st-Deadpool-16-87-1st-Cable-100-X-Force-1-2-15-47-X-men-201-/231316557637?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item35db8a8f45&nma=true&si=qZTtYX1lDtoy0HOKfNJAGD2n7LI%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
  9. If you check out that Spider-Woman cover thread, you'll notice that I was likewise criticizing that cover. That said, I also agree that selling bootlegs is unethical. So what's my ulterior motive here? (BTW, I also think that selling a counterfeit TMNT, slabbed or otherwise, is also wrong.)
  10. Myspace, Tumblr, and Instagram were never public companies. Twitter never fell below its IPO price, and was as high as 3X that amount. And while Facebook dipped a bit after its opening, it is now significantly more expensive than its IPO.
  11. Actually, if that was folded the other way it would work as a cover for 281. I imagine what happened is that it ended up being cheaper to do a single run of a new cover rather than run off 2 new covers for reprints, so they did the double-sided new cover, and simply never used the printed pieces for a third print of 281
  12. I think everyone *knows* that, because there were enough of us around at the time. I think the question is how might one prove it to those who weren't and might doubt that. Obviously every current reference says that, but I don't remember a whole lot of press at the time announcing reprints and showing the new cover logo.
  13. I wouldn't be surprised if this is a $30+ book in the near future. The 1st app. is out of the price range for high grade slabbed copies for most casual collectors/fans IMO. We have a small stack of these that we can't sell for $5 at the shows we do, and this is to people who drool over our NM #98s. May be time to move them online... Are they in boxes with most of the books or on a wall (where the NM 98s are, I imagine)? It might be interesting to see what happens by making them "wall" books for a show. I think the suggested importance might make people want them more.
  14. Does that mean that TTT #44 will get even hotter/pricer? (and, "yes", I have one! ) I suspect it also means big things for DC Presents 26 and New Teen Titans 1 (and possibly the Teen Titans Spotlight mini-series issues with individual origins). I can't see anyone caring about the Spotlight mini. (And yes, I have them)
  15. Or, if you're not on a phone while reading this: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Enormous/172618619459718
  16. I think 'highest grossing' typically means their movies made the most money, not that they themselves personally made the most money. in 2013 somehow GI JOE 2 made $371M worldwide, added to FF 6 $790M, Pain and Gain $81M, and Snitch $48M =$1.29B which is a higher number than Iron Man 3. Iron Man 3 Worldwide: $1,215,439,994 and the amount of the $790MM that FF 6 did that can be attributed to the Rock is about 87 cents. True, so it pays differently then right? Like when those bench players get a championship ring and a salary bonus. You ever wonder if a Key Grip or Best Boy (whatever they are) tries to argue that they're the highest grossing one of those things?
  17. I would imagine most creators would make more money working at DC or Marvel plus payroll employees get benefits. That probably doesn't apply to creative talent, but only to employees such as editors, production people. etc. Granted some creative talent are also doing other aspects of comic work, but it's probably not the creative work that gets them the benefits
  18. its getting harder and harder for them to channel stuff them. Eventually the music will stop on the artificial rarity variant game. Considering the economics of comics currently, I think that that will coincide with the music stopping for a good portion of the industry
