  1. So, Doombots are basically just malware then, right?
  2. When it takes you more than three words to describe why it's a key it's probably not a key.
  3. Yes, since that's Coulson's first 616 appearance, but not his first comic appearance overall. Coulson's first appearance ever in comics is in the non-616 "Iron Man/Incredible Hulk/Nick Fury" one shot in 2009. The timeline of early Agent Coulson appearances seems to go like this: Iron Man/Incredible Hulk/Nick Fury one shot, Cinematic Universe - February 2009: Page where he first appears: Iron Man 2: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. one shot, Cinematic Universe, first cover appearance: November 2010 Battle Scars #1, first 616 appearance, although not referred to as Agent Coulson until Battle Scars #6 - November 2011 Where's the love for the Walmart Exclusive Iron Man: Movie Special Issue #1? It came out in September/October of 2008 and features Coulson throughout. Here's some pics from the Walmart Exclusive Iron Man: Movie Special Issue #1. Ashcan sized, packed in with Wal-Mart copies of the DVD (released around/on 9/30/2008). The story is essentially a Coulson solo story taking place during the first Iron Man film, with Coulson featured as early as p. 2 and named throughout. Here's a couple of pics including the cover. I thought this was only a digital release but it appears it was printed! Cool comic. I want one but they are gonna be impossible to find. I do not think I would have paid 50 bucks for it though. I'm quoting this just so we can have another far-longer-than-necessary post.
  4. I prefer "brief appearance," or, in the case of something like ASM 299 or IH180, "teaser appearance."
  5. There's one other example that falls into this category that I'm *really* surprised we haven't seen argued here. But I'm not going to say what it is, because I don't want to set off the crazy.
  6. Someone following what's going on with Spider-Gwen thinks this might somehow be connected (and never actually read the story; hint: cover misrepresents the story)
  7. I really hope you're joking. Of course it merits value. I've already given the evidence that no one can dispute. Straight from the writer of the book. The artist has said it as well that it is her 1st appearance. Its not an arm (superman #17 - doomsday), its not a televison screen (Jimmy Olsen #134 - Darkseid) or a preview. That doesn't mean everyone is going to see it as valuable, or as the book to get. It's a one panel shot, with no dialogue. If the writer didn't point it out, nobody would know who the hell it is. She looks like a 30 year old woman there, not a teenager. Comics are full of one panel appearances more significant than this one, that don't become the primary book that the market chooses as its first appearance. Some people favor the first time a character is ever published on paper. Some people favor their first significant appearance in a book. Everyone has their preference for what they are going to collect. The point of this was never to debate what her first appearance is, and I never put up any kind of debate on the matter. It was to post the panel in question, and let people decide whether or not its enough for them to spend ~$25 on a copy if they don't know what they're getting for their money. And while we're on topic, Ms Marvel seems to be selling for around $25-30 right now. There you go. Here's a fun fact: in the first appearance of Carol Danvers in Marvel Super-Heroes #13, she only appears on 2 pages, in 5 panels, and doesn't say all that much.
  8. Cameo then? I'm going with this one. Low print, hard to find (only two copy's left on feebay) Selling at 2-3x the 1st print. With a full cover appearance a month before Ms Marvel #1. Seems like the top choice too me. Cheers! Good to know. I had decided to start collecting Ms/Captain Marvel books before the movie nws broke, so when it did I figured it was best to see what I could grab when I got my new books that Wednesday. They didn't have the first print of this book but I did get the second print.
  9. Definitely impossible to implement. I think there's value in saying "the best copy ever located and graded is an 8.0" on an independent scale though. It immediately tells you that all known copies are mid-grade... which makes mid-grade highly desirable for that book. Using your half-book and three-quarter book scenario, calling it a 10 because it's the best would be misleading. Something can be the best of its kind and still be less than perfect. (How much sense would it make to call the Venus de Milo a perfect 10 because it's the best one in existence? It's missing arms! ) This is why the census makes sense. You can see the availability of books in a certain grade and value it accordingly.
  10. First person with a valid point of debate… I'm not sure what you think I said that was invalid. But I'll also note that you're not excepting yourself from your statement.
  11. Spider-man is IN CM1, and asks her to come with him. AS9 then follows from that. I realize most people havent read these, but you cant claim that CM1 is an origin story. They go together/were written together, and the only reason there is even this silly debate is the existing release date of AS9. No doubt the 7 day out of order release was likely to help boost sales of CM1 But all of this is moot. CM1 = Carol Danvers becomes Captain Marvel. It's not an origin story, as9 follows from it directly. No one is arguing that Carol Danvers did not become Captain Marvel in Captain Marvel #1. It's just not the first appearance of her as the character. The books were not released together. They were released a week apart. Nor were they intended to be released together. These are facts. Facts are not debatable. What that means for the importance of these books? That we can certainly debate. But until we agree that the facts are the facts any debate is pointless.
  12. The first appearance of Danvers as Captain Marvel is in Uncanny X-Men #153 http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Cot5RqJoP3g/TqLw_XjKSWI/AAAAAAAAGGU/ZrSJYcOcLMA/s1600/Shazam+Marvel+2.jpg
  13. Be even more funny if Captain Marvel was the Captain Marvel from the Bronze aged series because he is the one who had so many interactions with Thanos. They already said that Carol Danvers is Captain Marvel in the movie. (But I think they're going to work Mar-Vell in there along the way.)
  14. Ding ding ding ding! Just catching up on this thread, and it's amazing how long it took for someone to point this out. Captain Marvel is more appropriately labeled as an origin, as it tells the story of how she took the name. While many origin stories (e.g. Amazing Fantasy #15) are also first appearances, this one is not, because Danvers appeared as Captain Marvel in Avenging #9 the previous week. Which book is more important is a different discussion and will depend largely on what you're chasing. Personally I think Captain Marvel #1 is more important, but if you're strictly chasing first appearances (and including first appearances of a n existing characters with a new name, costume, powers, etc.) then Avenging is your book.
  15. Make it an auction with a minimum bid no less than what you're willing to part with them for and let the market decide.
  16. If one likes to collect those things, that's cool. But most people will not consider that as important as an actual story, and it's silly to think that they should. Without the ads, the story still holds importance. Without the stories, the ads are irrelevant.
  17. An ad, which is not particularly important. image of danvers named as cap marvel which predates avenging 9 isn't important? Do you collect comics or just sell em'?? So you collect comics or ads for comics? +1
  18. Because we want it to show up on Lyria and catch on like wild fire so we can all dump them on the after market? Actually, I think the original idea was to see if we can convince people a comic is hot by all following it. It was an experiment. Well, no. It was really just for a goof. I don't think anyone actually expects that anyone believes that there will be any increased demand for this book.
  19. $8? Bin is going up fast. It's got a bid. Okay, now I'm like
  20. Sorry if this has been mentioned before. Silver Surfer #34 gets a lot of attention, with the return of Thanos, but #44 (Thanos completes Infinity Gems acquisition) is starting to go crazy. Described as Fine, with a day left: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SILVER-SURFER-44-FINE-THANOS-HUGE-SELECTIONS-/181573449991?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item2a469ef907
  21. Even at a penny, I imagine no one would be interested unless shipping was free.
  22. Oh, he's right, make no bones about it. Who knows, maybe collectors will come around to this way of thinking. I'd love to sell my two copies of Agents 6 for WD 1 money. But, so far, these things aren't collected as first appearances by the majority of collectors, including me. In this particular case it's also not the first appearance of the character, just the first time the character uses the name. Also not the first character to use the name. It's funny how many different issues can be pointed to as keys in the case of Carol Danvers.
