Thanks! Can you tell me why it isn't really an underground? Is it because it was published in '86 after the movement was moving mainstream? I'm always looking to learn more - thanks!

Sorry for so long before responding. I don't really collect comics anymore. The question you ask is hard to answer, but I will try. Underground comix was a movement, started in the 1960's with the hippy culture. Probably a solid definition for underground comix can be found at wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Underground_comix

The book you have is considered an indy or independent comic. Coming from the tradition of Cerebus, Elfquest and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. After the Turtles hit big, there was a period of time where everyone wanted to self publish their own black and white comic, so much so to the point a lot of substandard work came out and it became a glut of poor quality black and white books. I would probably guess this book came out around this time, due to the subject matter.

Thanks! I've spent a couple of years on and off out of curiosity trying to find out more about this book and why the color is different from every other copy I've ever seen (whether it's an error, later print, etc.). Just posted on the group, hopefully someone there will have some info.

It looks to simply be a misprint, where only the color blue was printed. Neat item, could be worth something to someone who collects printing errors. It's not really an underground comix or from the Bronze age, so it doesn't really fit this thread.

The comic appeared in Zap #1. It was also reprinted in Head Comix. Perhaps this is a pre-production proof of some sort?

It was colored by hand by someone. The pencil art itself is of course a photocopy. Wondering if it might be “color art” like many comic companies used. They would photocopy the original pencils and then the colorist would use paints to color the photocopy and use that in the production of the comic.

  4. Does eBay still allow you to file a non paying bidder case? Someone sent an offer on my book, I accepted and they never paid. I had to wait and then when I was able to take action, it appears they only allowed me to cancel the sale and relist. I don't even know if they refunded my fees. So this looks to me like eBay now gives buyers a free pass to bid on stuff and not pay. Sorry if this has been discussed on here before, but I am pretty much out on comics and trying just to sell at this point, so I don't keep up the way I used to. The non paying bidder's handle was deathstar88.

  5. I'm looking to sell my copy of Mr. Natural #2 CGC 9.6 Purple Label. I know purple labels are a tough sale, but this one has an interesting story behind it. I purchased this from Howard Greber, a fantastic gentleman who went by the handle "Eggs Ackley" on the boards here and in other areas. The story behind the purple label is that Howard bought the books from Don Donahue and then found many of them came back color touched. I think he said he believed Donahue did it just to make the books look better. I remember Howard being quite aggravated by the whole thing. Howard passed it on to me at a low price (which I don't recall), and now it's time to me to move it on. I am asking $49.99 plus $15.00 for the book. I accept Paypal. Returns accepted for 30 days. It's been a while since I have tried to sell anything here. It looks like I only have thumbnail pictures of the books. If anyone wants the fullsize photos, I can e-mail them to you.

  6. I know the seller of the Ebon 9.0 and the 9.4. He is a friend of mine and the 9.0 was my copy which I had slabbed. He is intentionally listing the prices high as he will sell them, but someone would have to pay dearly. He has the Best Offer featured enabled, but I know will not let them go cheap. Prices are going high for many key African-American books as there is a fan base willing to spend the money.

By the way, you wouldn't happen to have a high grade copy that you'd be interested in selling, would you?  I'm looking for HG as well

Actually, I think this copy is higher grade than my other copy. Only have two.

Hoping for some help/info here - I hit an antique fair today, and I like to grab odd and obscure books that I find, especially in the $1 boxes, because some of this stuff is pretty cool. I found a copy of a book called "Daffy Qaddafi - Malice in Wonderland." The premise made me laugh so I bought it.

There are a few on eBay and I've seen it on other sites like MyComicShop, but every single one I see has a full-color cover, and my copy has a black and white (or really, black, blue and white) cover. Anyone have any ideas on if this is some kind of subsequent printing or something?

Good pickup. Could be a printing error where the red and yellow ink was not applied to the front cover.
