@Panelfan1 answered better than I could do: the idea is not to sell all pages at $25k but to make high prices look like bargains. And I'm not even sure that Batman published pages will be available for sale: Marini posted a video on Facebook a few days ago (can't find it :-/ ), showing artworks "he was selecting for the coming sale" and it was only illustrations / commissions-like drawings. He also often publish on Facebook about drawings he does quickly in 10mn while drinking his morning coffee and sells 800-1000€. So it might be easier to offer such unpublished commissions at 1-2k€ (or more) when a published panel page sold $25k...

First of all I love this website. It's amazing, I have been using it daily for the last year. I love setting up alerts and just waiting for gold to appear. It's worked pretty flawlessly for me up until the revamp a week or two ago. Now, when I receive my daily e-mails chuck full of goodies and I click on the links for the item instead of going directly to the item, it brings me to the top of the daily New Art page. Is there any way to fix this? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Thanks for your message, and for pointing out this regression bug. It should still be possible to go directly to the item, I'll see to fix this as soon as possible!  (in fact it's already fixed - for tomorrow - for items that are on the first tab, it's much more complex if it's in tab 2 or more).

In the meantime, you can use the text filter (at the bottom of the filters box on the left) to find your artwork in the page opened when clicking on the link.

Would that really work though?  I can see it working by 10% or 20%, as in if I was only willing to spend $1K on a page, and the artist shilled an example auction up to $1,200.  I might consider bidding $1,200 or $1,300 next time just to get an example.

$25K seems out of range (and I don't know the artist).  If someone was only willing to spend $5K, would they all of a sudden start bidding $25K due to one example? I think they are more likely to tune out and use the $5K budget on other art.  If I had $25K to spend, I would rather buy 5 McFarlane Batman pages instead...

just a conspiracy theory -but what if he had the art put in and had someone bid it up to make the art more valuable so he could sell the rest? totally made up theory, with no backing. just throwing it out there. if someone knows the consignor, feel free to debunk.

That's clearly my thought as well, knowing that there is an exhibition / sale planned at Galerie 9ème Art in 2 weeks... http://galerie9art.fr/index.php?content=soon&i18n=en

I like many things in his collection but I couldn't understand his collecting habits.  It looked like he was buying everything from every area.  If he is starting a museum then it makes sense. It looks like it will be terrific.

That's exactly his target, so yes when you know it it makes sense :)

Regarding the Master Race pages, here is what he said on a French board (I won't translate it, it would probably not be accurate, so either you speak French or you'll use an online translation service)

    Quote

well that was unexpected.    I'm not familiar with Boon.   Anyone have any background?   Is he the reason for the big prices on TinTin?

Philippe has a great collection, built in a few years only, but is not focused on Tintin. He's working on this project of a museum in Brussels for a few years, I can't wait to see it. If you want to have a peek to his collectionhttps://www.2dgalleries.com/browse/user-artworks?timespan=4&order=10&catid=2&uid=583

  7. For those who have the same kind of problem as Mycroft and Rick2you2: with the help of Rick2you2, I finally discovered that the problem was due to his ad-blocker. He white-listed ComicArtTracker in Ad-blocker plus and now everything seems to be ok.

I'll see if I can detect ad-blockers to display a message.

Now, the New Art category isn't working for me at all. The name of the piece pops up, but no image.

Correction: about a dozen pieces showed up on the bottom of page 1, but nothing on the top or anything on pages 2-5.

Selecting specific subjects does seem to work.

Do images appear if you apply a filter? Or change the default sort?

Looking for a nice published example of Gurcan Gursel's art, can be short or longer gags.

    1. Paying FMV, although there isn't too much data out there, maybe those who are in the know with the European market?

    2. Payment through Paypal.

    3. HOS and probies need not apply.

    4. Please PM with images and for inquires.

    Thanks for your time

You can regularly find Gurcan Gursel's art on Catawiki, for instance this page in color or this cover

You also have a few pages on eBay such as this one or this one

You can use ComicArtTracker to find more :)

  10. I can understand the notion of fresh to market art as long as you sell / buy it privately. As Gene said, it can be a wild card for trading. But if you sell your "fresh-to-market" art on Heritage (or anywhere else), everybody will see it and will know for how much it sells. How could it still be considered as fresh to market by the new owner?!

I recall that the price of membership in 2016 was $50, then it jumped to $75. Am I remembering wrong?

You're right, it increased from $50 to $75/year on February 1, 2016. But it was already $50 when the premium membership appeared in June 1st, 2005. Which means that the price of CAF premium membership only increased once in 13 years!

Unfortunately it's not the same story for comic art prices...

  12. There is a page of Defenders of Dynatron City on eBay at $139 (and obviously it's not sold): https://www.ebay.com/itm/142881680896

Another one sold on ComicLink for $31 this year in June: http://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?id=1256096

Regarding the Scarlet Witch page, a page from issue #4 is available on the current ComicConnect auction: https://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=753103

You may want to use ComicArtTracker to compare your pages with what is available on dealers / auction houses websites: http://comicarttracker.com:)

I signed up . . . now I find myself arguing with a French guy who wants to act as an art critic on the stuff I'm posting . . .  :(

Yep unfortunately one of the two guys running 2DG can sometimes be a real insufficiently_thoughtful_person. When comparing to Bill Cox, on this point CAF definitely wins... :|

But maybe you were talking about the collector commenting about your Patton poster? He's probably the only guy I know who do not hesitate to comment "negatively" (but at least he explains why), I don't think you should take it personally ;-)

I’ve debated signing up for 2DG, but all the comments I’ve seen are French, which has deterred me.

I suppose it’s still beneficial to join.

    I love CAF Premium.

It depends. Of course if you're French people will mostly comment in French. But most of the 2DG members interested in US comic art try to comment in English when they (we) see that the collector is an English-speaker (typically because the description is in English). For instance: https://www.2dgalleries.com/art/flash-gordon-sunday-7-26-42-by-alex-raymond-76075  or https://www.2dgalleries.com/art/corto-maltese-in-havana-by-john-paul-leon-64854 .

And even if comments are in French, Google is your friend... should be enough to understand what people said on your art :-p

  14. In terms of design, layout and mobile-friendliness, 2DG is definitively more modern... which is understandable as the website is only a few years old whereas CAF exists for a far longer time. There is also far less advertising on 2DG so pages are neater and art is probably better highlighted (put forward? don't know the best expression) and you can receive email alerts on specific artists / collectors accounts even with a free account, not on CAF. But on the other hand, as a younger website, 2DG is more limited in terms of number of artworks (especially if you're not interested in european comic art). The premium account is also more expensive (79€ vs $75) and even with a premium account you cannot sell more than 10 items at the same time (I don't think there is a limitation on CAF?).

As a collector, my opinion is that you should follow both websites (no need for a premium account just to have a peek and on 2DG): you'll have a few big collectors who don't have an account on CAF, such as https://www.2dgalleries.com/galleries/les-americains-et-anglo-saxons-5355?timespan=4&order=10&catid=2). Note that there is far less art posted everyday on 2DG, it's easier to follow than CAF (especially if you deactivate display for commissions ^^). If you have time, it's quite easy to add your new artwork on both websites (once it's scanned and you wrote your description, it's just a matter of a few minutes to copy and paste). If you're a seller and want / need to be seen by European collectors, you may want to consider being on 2DG, but my opinion is that the premium account is too expensive.

As for comments, don't expect too many of them on 2DG, for two reasons:

    1. a lot of 2DG members don't care at all about US comic art (some of them even deactivate their display - something I really can't understand: if you're a collector you should be eager to discover artists you never heard of, isn't it?)
    2. I feel comments are more and more about friends / trading (I know and appreciate you, I write a comment, you'll give one back)

Of course that's only my opinion!

    array.thumb.jpg.e0a102337fc93fcdc4f3fe5c693f42fd.jpg

Very interesting. From the array, there are two results for Albert Uderzo, one that fetched €1,150,000 in 6th position, and the other in 8th position for €950,000, both closing on October 13, 2017. The results array does not show a thumbnail, and the Richelieu site no longer is showing an image (placeholder image is shown on your array, and nothing on their site). Then I found what looks to be the same covers that were auctioned at Artcurial the year prior. One sold for €102,080, and the other which was estimated to sell for €100,000 - €150,000 doesn't appear to have sold. They could be two completely different covers from the series, but with the images being taken down from Richelieu, and the incredible price difference in a single calendar year, something doesn't seem right. My apologies if this has been discussed before, but that has to be a record price for any OA that sold twice a single year apart!

The 2 pages whose images have been removed from the auction house website are not the ones from the links you give (which are not covers but illustrations). The first one (1M€+) is the one you can see on the first link provided by Bronty. The second one (950k€) is also a cover. Here is the PDF version of the catalog.
