  1. *Redhead alert* The Strange Ways Of Love by Clayton Matthews Monarch Books 207 August 1961 $30 SOLD to mstrange Peek-a-boo! While I love "Brood of Fury", I consider Raymond Johnson's page-spanning, leggy red headed vixen here the greatest tail-lights cover ever. Very Fine minus. Beautiful, square, glossy and smooth. Very fresh and white. Light bend to cover that doesn't break color. A spectacular copy.
  2. Brood of Fury by Jess Shelton Crest Giant d434 1st Printing March 1961 $25 SOLD to mstrange One of the many bodice-ripping "Mandingo" imitations from the 1960's. Stan Zuckerberg was a follower of Avati and mostly painted dark, realist covers, but man, when he went Good Girl, he went Good. One of the best tail-lights covers ever. Fine Plus/Very Fine minus. Beautiful, glossy and smooth. Colors are deep. Off white pages, minimal toning to interiors. Small crease on lower back cover. A gorgeous book.
  3. Bus Stop by William Inge Bantam 1518 August 1956 Second Printing Movie Tie-in Edition April 1959 $25 SOLD to goldust40 Great Marilyn Monroe photo cover. Tough to find in this condition. Fine Plus Pluss. Glossy and new looking. Bright colors and white whites. Touches of wear, mostly to the spine and spine edges. Pages and interior cover lightly toning. A classic
  4. Sin Pit by Paul Meskil Lion Books 198 March 1954 A very rare book. $75 SOLD to goldust40 If you know this book, you know, If you don't you should. It's so good, in the depraved noir sense, I felt kind of dirty reading it, but couldn't put it down. One you don't forget - too bad he didn't write more, he had the frailty of the human condition down pat. Nice copies are elusive, there are no copies for sale for less than $150 that I know of, and the cover art is so evocative (uncredited, looks a lot like Lou Marchetti to me) Offering here an affordable copy that someone will surely love. Here's the scoop from Wiki: Sin Pit is a crime novel by American journalist Paul S. Meskil (Jul 2, 1923–Oct 11, 2005) published by Lion Books in 1954. It is one of those rare paperback originals that has achieved cult status through a combination of circumstances, including the fact the author wrote only one work of crime fiction, the initial print run was relatively low for paperbacks at the time, the book had only one print run by the original publisher (Lion Books) and, finally, found an audience years later among collectors of 1950s paperback crime novels. Sin Pit shares all the above circumstances with another paperback crime novel published a year earlier, in 1953, that similarly achieved cult status — Black Wings Has My Angel by Elliott Chaze, published by Fawcett Gold Medal. Both authors were respected journalists their entire lives and wrote only a single crime novel that was never republished until years later, only after gaining an audience among aficionados of pulp fiction. Very Good minus/Very Good. Spine has slant and wear and pages are uneven, but it's all solid on the spine and the front cover image is actually smooth and presents very well without big creases. Page quality is very good although there are a bunch of dog eared pages. Like a comic book that "looks great in a mylar"
  5. Ace D-41 DAY KEENE Death House Doll (cover by Harry Barton; 1953; listed as "ACE Original") THOMAS B. DEWEY Mourning After (cover by Victor Olson; 1953; listed as "complete and unabridged") $35 SOLD to mstrange A key book due to the Day Keene Noir original with great Femme Fatale cover art on "Death House" and a great Olson floozy on "Mourning" to boot! Fine/Fine plus.Square and solid binding. Light creasing and edgewear keep this from the highest grades. Great colors and gloss. Very nice copy.
  6. Ace D-40 Waltz Into Darkness by William Irish (aka Cornell Woolrich) and Scylla by Malden Grange Bishop 1954 $40 SOLD to Comical Situations One of Woolrich's wildest fantasies of noir fate. I loved this book. A great copy of a tough early Ace Key book. Gorgeous, evocative cover art by Victor Olson on "Waltz" (the original survives, you can look it up on Heritage - I'd love to own that piece!) and Lou Marchetti on "Scylla". Very hard to find in this condition due to all the Woolrich fans going after them. Fine Plus/ Very Fine minus. Beautiful glossy copy with smooth covers. Colors are deep. Off white pages, minimal toning to interiors. Hairline reader crease on "Scylla" side. Light edgewear. A beauty.
  7. Ok, I have some time to get things going again. This will be a mixture of classics with GGA as well as trash with GGA See a theme there? Just saying because so many Golden Age pbs have GGA on great books as well on titles published as sleaze or sleazy romance. Ace D-23 Passing Strange by pulp vet Richard Q. Sale backed with Bring Back Her Body by Stuart Brock aka Louis Trimble. 1953 $30 SOLD to goldust40 A very nice early Ace. Great cover art not credited on either side. Passing Strange looks like a DeSoto pulp menace cover to me and the dame with the gun on "Body" looks a lot like Harry Barton. Fine plus.Square and solid binding. Light color skips on "Body" and edgewear keep this from the highest grades. Great colors and gloss. Very nice copy.
  8. This is the one I always remember seeing from hunting vintage paperbacks at stores. Not my copy but I think I have one boxed away somewhere:
  9. I knew there had to be another lunatic, like myself, who loves their wimmen a little cray cray You, sir, are that man! I appreciate ya!
  10. This is where the Warren Guide still comes in so handy, all Frazetta except "Triumphant". Later in 1963 they moved all the Tarzan books over to Ballantine, with pretty uninspired covers imho: F-169 Tarzan and the Lost Empire F-180 Tarzan at the Earth's Core F-189 Tarzan the Invincible F-193 The Son of Tarzan F-194 Tarzan Triumphant - Krenkel F-203 The Beasts of Tarzan F-204 Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar F-205 Tarzan and the City of Gold F-206 Jungle Tales of Tarzan F-212 Tarzan and the Lion Man
  11. Ok, that was a fun run of classic Science Fiction, I'm so glad they are appreciated. Gonna have to close it for tonight but our daughter is heading back to UF tomorrow morning and I will, once again, have time to do nothing but list vintage paperbacks I have a great pile of GGA to list
  12. Frankenstein by Mary Shelley Lion Books No. 146 1953 $50 SOLD to Comical Situations The first mass market pb of the classic horror novel has become rare in any condition. Art not credited but I believe strongly that it is Lou Marchetti. VG/Fine. Solid and square, pages tight, has creasing around the spine edges and on the back cover but overall a very presentable, collectible copy. These are getting put away in permanent collections.
  13. The Werewolf Of Paris by Guy Endore Avon 354 1951 $75 SOLD to mstrange Iconic GGA Horror cover art by Bill Randall. A cornerstone book for any vintage pb collection. Very Fine Minus. Bright, glossy new looking book. Super tight, great pages. Has a slight spine slant and a finger bend to the front cover that lifts the lamination slightly. Nit picking here as this is a condition slayer of a copy of one of the classic Avons from the early 1950's.
  14. I Am Legend by Richard Matheson, Gold Medal 643 1957 $22 SOLD to N e r V The Second printing of the First Edition of this Matheson horror classic. The cover art is perhaps Stanley Meltzoff's masterpiece with it's Renaissance elements and lighting effects. Made into multiple movies and a pop culture phenomenon. The Gold Medal 1st print almost never comes up for sale and is three figures when it's nice. The 2nd slightly more often. Fine minus/Fine A nice copy, has some spine slant and a bunch of non color breaking creases but glossy and fresh over all.
  15. The Ship Of Ishtar by Abraham Merritt Avon 324 1951 The first small format paperback edition. $35 SOLD to N e r V Fantastic Bondage Torture Nude GGA cover, probably painted by Bill Randall. A classic of the Golden Age of Avon and a pretty copy of a 72 year old vintage paperback. Fine Plus. Incredible gloss on the lamination. Couple of light cover creases, near perfect lamination. Spine has some stress but no color loss. Very minor edge/corner wear. Pages lightly toning. Presents very well.
  16. The Big Eye by Max Ehrlich Popular Library 273 September 1950 $30 SOLD to N e r V Classic Earle Bergey giant eyeball Sci Fi cover. By far the best copy I've offered. This book is fairly common with problems, tough to find smooth. Fine Plus/Very Fine minus. Solid square with tight spine. Has a hairline reader crease otherwise no creasing. There's a couple of tiny spots of discoloration that won't photograph.
  17. Donovan's Brain by Curt Siodmak Bantam Books #819 1st mass paperback edition, 1st Printing 1950 $20 SOLD to mstrange Classic Herman Bischoff "Living Brain" Cover. "It was monstrous and alive!" Everything cool about Science Fiction is right here. Fine. Very square and glossy. Has a perfectly straight reader crease and a bit of soiling. The back cover has traces of bundle marks from being tied up at the newsstand. A very nice copy overall.
  18. The Green Girl by Jack Williamson Avon Fantasy Novel #2 First and only printing of this paperback first edition 1950 $30 SOLD to Comical Situations Fridge Magnet book - one of the most reproduced Sci-Fi covers of all with Raymond Johnson's classic cover of the naked Green Girl in the clutches of the Vegetable monster Very Good Minus/Very Good. Has a neat hole punch to upper right, otherwise it's a nice VG copy with creasing and wear but the classic image still looks great. Rare to find any decent looking copy less than $50
  19. The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells Dell Books #269 First mass paperback Edition 1949 $30 SOLD to dover Very nice copy of the 1st pb edition - Gorgeous Gerald Gregg Art Deco Cover. I am leaving inside the LA Transit transfer ticket dated August 7th, 1952 that was holding place on page 25. I love those kinds of discoveries Fine Plus. Slight slant, super glossy and unread looking. Has a crease and a bit of lamination lifting but a very attractive copy of a classic early Dell.
