  1. Lost on Venus by Edgar Rice Burroughs Ace 49502 March 1973 $15 SOLD to NerV Frank Frazetta animal fight cover. Later print of the tall Ace edition with more cover art space than the first. Very Fine Minus/Very Fine. Super glossy and new looking. Some tiny color flakes on upper right edges. Pages and interior cover lightly toning. A beautiful specimen of a 50 year old vintage pb.
  2. The Spider #5 Grant Stockbridge JUDGMENT OF THE DAMNED/MASTER OF THE FLAMING HORDE $25 Now $20 Great cover art from the original June 1940 pulp. The best cover used of the eight Carrol & Graf reprints and the next best alternative to the originals The only copy I have for sale from the "High Grade Collection" As New. Super glossy, unread, uncirculated copy with only minor storage and surface/edgewear wear.
  3. The Spider #4 Grant Stockbridge DEATH REIGN OF THE VAMPIRE KING/PAIN EMPEROR $15 Now $12 Great cover art from the original September 1940 pulp. The next best alternative. The last copy I think I have for sale from the "High Grade Collection" of multiples. As New. Super glossy, unread, uncirculated copy with only minor storage and surface/edgewear wear. Two novels, originally published in November 1935 as "Death Reign of the Vampire King" and in February 1935 as "The Pain Emperor" in the pulp monthly publication The Spider, Master of Men!
  4. Wowzers! We've now posted all the classic vintage pb editions of this book!
  5. Our Friends From Frolix 8 by Philip K. MR. Ace 64400 June 1970. First Book Edition, PBO precedes the SFBC Hardcover. $25 Now $20 Cover art by John Schoenherr. True first of one of the most collected SF authors. Fine Plus. The last of the copies I have for sale of this title from the "High Grade" collection which contained multiples of some key titles. A very nice unread copy of a true 1st Edition. Not a rare book generally but tough to find really nice ones like this. Light corner crease on back cover and a tiny color chip at tip, some edgewear and a light spine crease on back. A very attractive copy.
  6. Spiderweb by Robert Bloch backed with the Corpse in my Bed by David Alexander Ace D-59 1st Edition PBO of the Weird Tales/Arkham House author Robert Bloch. $40 SOLD to Norrin's Lawyer Bloch's 1st book for Ace with classic Harry Barton GGA cover art. As mentioned elsewhere, much harder to find these early Ace mystery novels in any condition compared to the Science Fiction ones. Very Good Plus/Fine Minus. Solid spine has minimal wear, pages tight. Reader crease on both sides and Spiderweb side has light creasing to the corner but the pages are supple and tight and covers glossy and attractive. My copy is only marginally better, almost impossible to find without any creases.
  7. Classic Avon GGA! It's funny, in between the photo cover and this crazy one, Avon had Bill Randall paint a lighter cover with the title toned down for the Diversey Novel Library series, which is scarce also.
  8. I know, he don't want no lovin' Around when Donald Wollheim became editor at Avon (1948 I think), they tried out a lot of different things, from photo covers in the late 1940's and then gradually going all paintings with much better artists in the Raymond Johnson/Bill Randall style, full tilt by late 1949.
  9. 100%. Way harder. Sci-Fi collectors have hoarded everything compared to other genre collectors. OtherEric and I have discussed this and the Westerns are even tougher to find, although usually cheaper, since they are less collected.
  10. I can't resist books with great campy movie titles like: "Satan in High-Heels" by Noel Candler. Belmont Books L92-572 Movie tie-in/novelization. 1st Edition 1st Printing October 1963 $10 SOLD at 20% off to Tupenny Conan Cool multi-photo cover framing a dame in a corset. Sleaze novel "About a carnival tramp who cheats, steals and bed-bounces her way to New York" Fine/Very Fine. Also very glossy and new looking, great color for a white cover, great spine, tight pages, smooth covers, only light wear. Page quality is great. A really nice 60's movie camp book.
  11. A bit of lighter fare... Up In Valerie's Room by Martin Collyer. Lancer Books 73-414 1st Edition PBO 1963 $12 SOLD to crassus Great GGA, I can't put my finger on the artist but it's in the Mitch Hooks style. Fine/Very Fine. Super glossy and new looking, great color, greatspine, tight pages, smooth covers. Page quality is great. A really nice GGA book. Surprisingly fresh since Lancer's seem to fall apart when you stare at them hard.
  12. Love Trap by Lionel White. Signet Books 1204 1st Printing. May 1955 $22 Now $18 A killer James Avati cover, both gritty and Good Girl to crime caper novelist supreme, Lionel White. If you haven't read him, you're missing out. He edited a slew of True Crime mags for years and put all that background knowledge to great use writing taut little thrillers. His Signet books are very tough to find and sought after. It took me a long time to find a better copy. Very Good. Spine has slant and a crack with some color rubbing, but it's solid and the pages tight. Front cover is smooth and glossy with a grease pencil mark and light beds. A larger crease on the back cover. Cover colors are very strong. Fair amount of toning to the pages but not brittle. A very presentable copy that can still be read (and should be!)
  13. Shadow of the Mafia by Louis Malley. Monarch Books 105 1st Edition, PBO. December 1958. $15 Now $12 Another gorgeous Lou Marchetti Good Girl cover, this time to hardboiled gangster novelist Louis Malley. Very Good/ Very Good Plus. Fine Plus covers. Covers are smooth with very light creases on the back, a bit of surface wear. Cover colors are very strong. What brings it down technically is browning pages with tips getting brittle, a few tiny chips off the edges here and there. Name and year written lightly in pen inside front cover. A great looking bargain copy.
  14. Gonna get back into action with some more sweet GGA covers to great authors. Babe in the Woods by William Ard. Monarch Books 172 1st Edition, PBO. November 1960. $40 SOLD to crassus My favorite Lou Marchetti Good Girl cover. Just the most elegant thing ever, the Lou Largo novels are great reads as well. Fine Plus. Spine has some slant, but the covers are smooth and unbroken other than a couple light finger type bends. Colors are strong and the pages only have light toning. A gorgeous copy of a top notch book.
  15. The Lost World by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Harlequin Books 238 July 1953 $40 Now $32 The first North American paperback edition of a great Sci Fi classic. Very tough to find in decent condition. Harlequins are notorious for extensive cover rubbing and this copy has only a bit of it. My copy is marginally better. Very Good/Very Good plus. Solid spine, great colors for a Harlequin. Readers crease and a small corner crease. Pages lightly toned. Otherwise tight and bright
  16. Village of the Damned by John Wyndham Ballantine Books 453K December 1960 Creepy Movie Tie In cover. Those eyes! $25 SOLD to Tupenny Conan Based on Wyndham's "The Midwich Cuckoos" Very Scarce in nice condition Fine Plus. Solid binding, pages tight, minimal edgewear and virtually no creasing. Small scrape in the text on back cover. Usual toning to the pages. A very attractive copy of a tough dark cover Science Fiction classic
  17. Luana. Movie Novelization by Alan Dean Foster Ballantine 23793 February 1974 Classic cover art by Frank Frazetta $18 SOLD to mstrange ISFDB release date predates the cover date of Vampirella #31 but unsure of which hit the stands first, although I suppose the actual movie poster would have been released before either of them. Very Good/ Very Good Plus - Appears nicer but has a bunch of pressure marks on the cover which don't break color and I found hard to capture in the photos. Otherwise the book appears lightly read and the main cover image looks great. I've found this book very difficult to find any copies that aren't beat. Great blurb about this from ISFDB: Novelization of a 1968 Italian film Luana la figlia delle foresta vergine about a "girl Tarzan". "Ballantine hired him to write the novelization of the 1968 Italian film (which was subtitled The Girl Tarzan), the rights to which had been secured for American/English distribution. There was no English translation of the --script and no copy of the film available with subtitles. So Foster watched the movie in Italian (which he did not speak) and then wrote his own original novel, based heavily on the cool Frank Frazetta movie poster." [info from a 2021 review on Goodreads by "Craig"]
  18. Witch of the Dark Gate by John Jakes Lancer Books 75415-095 1972 First Edition Gorgeous cover art by Frank Frazetta $18 SOLD to p-kay14 Fine Plus - Appears very lightly read. Hairline reader crease near spine, unusual structural condition for a Lancer, has some age darkening or I'd rate it higher.
