  1. It's ambiguous for sure! She may be a hostage now but she coulda been a moll yesterday... those were tough times if you ratted out!
  2. Aaaah... think I need a drink... like the folks in these novels... I actually collect the classics more than the JD and Sci-Fi
  3. Love these... "The Sun Smasher" ... The best thing in the world is vaporizing a sun with a giant cannon!
  4. Has a lot going for it Gun Moll in a Diaphanous gown among other things
  5. I never realized how many cool JD books were in the First Ace series until recently... I have "All Shook Up" but not the other 2... hmmmm
  6. Thanks so much for this. It's really jealousy-making lol. So much cool stuff. There used to be some booths like this at the Fred Greenberg shows in NYC, with paperbacks, digests, pulps and hardbacks. I once picked up a signed Arkham 1st Ed. of Ray Bradbury's Dark Carnival in a nice DJ for $30 there - those were the days. You can never go wrong with "dollar" Popular Librarys... or cool books at the ten dollar 'limit" either. The cons around here are "Mega" types, all toys and cosplay and a few comic dealers. I'm pretty much limited to ebay these days, where there are still many bargain paperbacks and digests to be had if you dig around but it would be nice to go to a show and smell old paper again , rather than eau de sweaty cosplayer.
  7. It was nice to hear he's still open and to read all those nice reviews on Yelp. They mirror my experience when I lived in NYC. I swung a lot of deals with Roger back in the day, including lots of books he sold on consignment for me. He always cared about and engaged - in a playful, not a pushy way - every customer who walked in that door. There was a time that I couldn't get over there for many months, probably close to a year and he still had my box of stuff and listed what had sold and was mainly glad that nothing bad had happened to me. I too had the pleasure of having an afternoon beer there and getting in that geeky "who was on what team when" banter that was ever present. That kind of genuineness, I suspect, is the reason he has made it and kept it old school in a brutally expensive environment that has eaten up virtually all of the old bricks and mortar comic and used book shops that used to be all over the Village.
  8. Rogers Time Machine was pretty much the last Old School Comic Shop I can remember in NYC - meaning a place with bins and bins of back silver & bronze. Bought many a bargain there in the 90's and early 00's Roger was always a stand up guy who would let you hang around the shop, talk comics and haggle with you
  9. Back to the paperbacks - Ace hit the ground running with "Marijuana, music and murder" in their first offering "Too Hot For Hell"... Covers were by Norman Saunders - the flip side was "The Grinning Gismo" featuring a gun moll in lingerie cover to round out a classic double bill. Wish I had a better copy...
  10. Heinlein & Asimov in one issue... speaks to your earlier comment about the quality writing Astounding attracted. Really no competition until the advent of Galaxy and The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction in the early '50's.
  11. I don't know if it's been put up but here's my slightly crispy copy of Nov. 1949 - "Gulf" pt 1 by Heinlein "And Now You Don't" by Asimov - all wrapped up with a classic "subdued" Astounding cover... which has great composition IMHO
  12. Cool stuff - Man I wish there was a paperback show on the east coast... just to geek out and come home with a bunch of great covers for the cost of one decent comic book...
  13. Thanks for posting these! Such a great set. Aside from the Heinlein aswesomeness, this cover has everything you need to be "Golden Age" ... giant, amorphous spaceships, tank treads, broken battlements and gas mask wearing Humanoids running across the battlefield...
  14. It's a Brave New World... What I love most about PB's is that they're still in the wild. Just picked this up... I actually had a great copy years ago but let it go for some trade reason. One of the best cautionary tales and an amazing cover by Singer,,,,
  15. Early Pockets are kinda like Pre-Robin Tec's of PB's... They have that "early" feel - This 2 volume set is a keeper.
  16. Pennies for Gold.... I missed this when it just happened or it'd be mine... Never see this so nice. When the Top of the Hobby is a hunnerd or two.... https://www.ebay.com/itm/NAKED-ON-ROLLER-SKATES-By-MAXWELL-BODENHEIM-1949-DIVERSEY-PAPERBACK-SLEAZE-GGA/142677504123?hash=item21383df07b:g:52IAAOSwLnladPI6
  17. Fritz Leiber goodness... These Royal Giants are hard to preserve...
  18. When Biro was good, he was very very good, but when he was bad, he was horrid. I think this is the top of his powers re composition, Gun Moll etc etc...
  19. Somewhat... That would make this a "Classic Headlight" cover maybe?...
