  12. I'm going all out here to extend the most amount of what my pals around here call "Stone Cold Classics" - those books that have iconic covers, contents or both. I'll be heading out to the Los Angeles Paperback show in March for the first time so making room and raising some buying money at the same time. There will also be lots of lower dollar books that are fun in one way or other, including plenty of science fiction so keep checking back, I plant to keep this going for about a week if I can I've been buying selling and trading Vintage pb's since the Hancer Price Guide came out back in the 80's. Been on Ebay since 1998 with 100% positive feedback. I tend to grade paperbacks in the manner of current pulp grading: Poor/Fair/Good/Very Good/Fine/Very Fine I'm a high grade collector so my books are almost all Very Good and better if they're available in those grades. Many pre-1960 books just aren't available in high grade often so I try to find solid Good-Very Good ones if I can. The rules for this thread are: -No HoS or Probation list buyers -I will ship to Canada but will have to quote shipping options. -Payment via Venmo or Paypal preferred. I also can do Zelle although it is a bit more of a pain to do. -Shipping via USPS Media Mail for $5 or Priority Small Box for $11 for the continental United States. More than one book I will ship at the least extra cost practicable. Shipping for Canada will be quoted. -First in the thread wins and prevails over pm offers -Returns accepted for 14 days after delivery but please let me know asap if you are unhappy for any reason and I will make it right. I do miss things occasionally. Feel free to pm with offer or questions. I'm always open to reasonable package offers.
  13. Friday fun... the "regular" Avon edition of "Double Indemnity" Avon #60, 1945 cover by Paul Stahr. Although both editions are cool, I think this cover is cooler.
  14. The Sack of Lombard: Slab collectors descend on the Windy City Pulp Convention
  15. Very nice, Surf has some Friday fun for this thread as well Nice H.J. Ward bondage cover on this one. I have quite a few Private Detective's including #1, since they were, relatively reasonable for Ward cover pulps when I got into them 5 or so years ago. Not so much anymore but I still look around for them.
  16. I'm sure you all can imagine I'd be scouring the interwebs for a decent copy of "A Handful of Darkness" since @OtherEric posted his find and today is the day it arrived. Grateful for you pointing it out pal, one of the few holes in my PKD pb shelf. It's pretty nice but just scruffy enough that I don't fear reading the tales within
  17. Tim, I just wanted to be another voice of thanks. Your guide formed a large part of my education on titles, authors, artists and all the other things that Pulps are besides price. The unfortunately disparaging tone of the post you responded to seems to disregard the tireless effort such a guide is. It seems to be a theme in many responses to old posts that were dredged out. Your persecution as an interloper back in the day was surely undeserved however my own sense of the reaction of "old time pulp collectors" in other forums than these to CGC grading confirms there's a bias to keeping the club door closed. The disgust and down-nose gazing I've seen at the prospect of the invasion of the club by vulgar cover art collectors in some groups is a bit disappointing but not unexpected. I gather the same commenters will be happy to sell their wares at the higher prices that an expanded market of collectors will bring when they decide to cash out, as all humans must do eventually (or die with their booty in the hands of heirs)
  18. Just finished reading "War With The Newts" or rather re-reading because as I read, it started to come back to me that I knew this story, pretty sure I read it back in college days when I was voraciously consuming the classics. A tale well worth reading and/or re-reading. Very Continental in its satire on politics and human nature and quite humorous in a sad (and savage) way. Not full of dated space/time physics either so none of the suspension of disbelief required Other than remarking that a Pat recommendation usually can't go wrong, I'll leave it at that so there's no spoilers This copy had some old water soiling to the back pages so I happily read it in the vintage pb edition. I can't do e-readers, I need smelly old paper
  19. This conversation is really giving me the itch to pick some up again
  20. You're off to a great start. They are beautiful books, well selected and well made with many great dust jackets. They just have an artful quality about them. When I sold my first collection I kept most of the ones I had. Here's a partial shelfie: And the front of one of my favorite Dust Jackets - by Hannes Bok
  21. I've never collected westerns per se, but I always run across some that just hit me and I put them on my keep pile and love looking at, especially if they are early Ace or Popular Library
  22. That is quite a few places noted. With about 500 mapbacks it's a tough thing to know! Most only have one location but then there's First Men In The Moon which has the entire moon map
  23. There's nothing quite like a minty fresh 1950's Avon, except perhaps a minty fresh 1950's Popular Library
