  1. I'm currently a little more than halfway through this myself. The toughest part isn't finding the books (I have singles of 94-600, and marvel unlimited + masterworks got me through 1-94) it's keeping the drive to continue once you get into the 300s.

    hm

  2. Maybe try to find the "Masterworks" reprint editions? The "X-Men" titled books start with vol. 1 and reprints #1-10, vol. 2 reprints #11-21, vol. 3 reprints #22-31, etc. The "Uncanny X-Men" titled Masterworks books start with vol. 1 and reprint #94-100 plus GSX #1, vol. 2 reprints #101-110, and so on.

I have heard of the MasterWorks" collection but I was under the impression it was not all inclusive. I have also seen them to be rather pricey. I tried wiKi but unlike alot of other comic titles it is really not giving me much information on where to find consecutive reprints.

MW would be the most desirable thing I can find at this point.

Does anyone know what would be the best electronic source? Or are there multiple options?

    Thanks.

They go in and out of print. I put together the original run with an Epic collection and Masterworks and just got the Omnibus starting with GSX 1 / 94. You can also get some of the 94 issues on with Classic X-Men issues pretty cheap but there are alterations to those stories. Omnibus' can be annoying to read due the size. I prefer Masterworks due to this. I refuse to do electronic issues.

Ahh yes, Classic X-men. I had forgotten about that as an option. Good thinking.

I am not totally against reading it electronically. The problem I have is thus: I do not own a lap top. So that means sitting up in my chair at my desk through an entire 200 issue run. I am not aghast at the notion however it is somewhat foreign and would take some getting used to.

But I gotta do what I gotta do.

    Thanks.

Do you have a smart phone? I do most of my reading on my iphone. It takes a little getting used to scrolling through 1 panel at a time and sometimes you do have to zoom in a little if there is a lot going on in a larger panel but once you get used to it it's not bad at all. This is coming from someone who was saying less than a year ago I'd never go digital.

Plus, I always have my phone on me so anytime I have a little spare time I can do a little reading.

The thing is there is nothing like reading the original comic.

Even a graphic novel falls short of that. The colors and the feel are totally different. I enjoy the comic medium. Short of the original the digital is not too far off.

It seems the digital means is probably the easiest route and I deeply appreciate all of the feedback I have gotten . It will be thoroughly helpful and I am sure in the coming months I will complete my quest. I have for sure found what I am looking for.

    Thanks.

  3. Giant X-Men #1, then X-Men 94 and on to about 145 were good. They dwindled in storyline to about 180 and that's where I left off. I remember liking the series when Jim Lee took over the art but the storyline was not very coherent.

Some early X-men were really good. Particularly the Juggernaut stories and the Mimic.

Yes, the silver age book had some really good stories. Plus I really enjoyed the Dark Phoenix saga.

  4. thats a long read :)

I figure that will be my annual comic reading for the year of 2017. With the size of the read I tend to plan ahead as far in advance as I can.

I read about 400 issues of Hulk and GI Joe total this year which I started culling in July of 2015. It was not too tough but with all the other reading I do that is about my limit.

Thank you to anyone who was kind enough to offer information for my quest. If you do not see me for another year , you'll know where I am . lol

One last question to anyone who might still be listening:

I have never seen a 'X-Men Thread' on the boards here and I am wondering why? I mean there is a GI Joe thead, a Transformers thread, Fantastic Four, and even a War Comics thread etc.etc. I think Uncanny X-Men is at least as awesome as any of those titles right? I have searched high and low. Am I just not seeing it?

The only reason I would suppose is perhaps due to there being so much crossover material...But still.

I'm not understanding what you're referring to in saying "not all inclusive". There's no LOC's, Bullpen Bulletins, etc., but all the story pages and covers are present. Try this link:

    Marvel Masterworks Library

Look into the Marvel Unlimited site for digital options.

What I meant is I was not certain that it offered every single issue consecutively. Not terribly concerned with the letter column or Bullpen .lol I thought MMW only reprinted select runs, key issues etc. Apparently not. It looks like it will be possible to get every issue I need that way.

I have been trying to further track down the Marvel MasterWorks since you first mentioned it and although I am coming up with quite a few collections it is hit or miss. Some of the prices are all over the place.

I have however put together complete runs for reading in the past and I am aware that quite a bit of leg work can be involved. I know that you do not typically walk into one store lay down some cash and walk out with all 500 issues under your arm.

    Thanks.

  8. I was hoping for some advice for working on my Uncanny X-Men collection. I would like to (re)read the original series starting in early 2017 or as much of it as I can get my hands on.

I would like to know if I could get some advice on what the best way to complete the series would be? Actually I am looking for the cheapest method.

I am unaware of a single collection of the works in one volume. Are there a trade paperback versions broken up ? I am vaguely familiar with being able to read it electronically but having them in hand would be preferred.

I currently have issues #200-544 in floppy copy plus about 20 or so issues from before that. Therefore I would just be looking for the first 200 issues or so. At this time I am not looking to buy the originals. I would not have the time to put that part of the collection together between now and then anyway.

I would definitely appreciate any information that people here would be willing to share. Thank you.

  9. I do have a real question though.

I had a boardie :takeit: a book on 8-5-15 pending scan. Scan was provided 8-11-15 once the book arrived from CGC.

So far he has not even logged back on to the boards to check the PM. How long would most of you wait before you cancelled the transaction with that boardie and sell it elsewhere?

IMO 5 days is enough to sell it else where.

However I did PM him last night saying if I don't here back from you by Wednesday 8-19 before I leave for vacation for 3 weeks that I am canceling your :takeit: pending scan. Which is over a weeks time since I last sent him the scan.

I try to be more business lenient here on the boards, but I think I gave him more than enough time to complete the transaction yah or nay. I could have gotten paid days ago from other boardies that wanted the same book.

    Your thoughts?

Firstly if I might offer some assistance I would say I think the board policy here states you have to give them 30 days but I personally understand your eagerness to finalize the transaction.

Secondly whenever I say "forget about them; cancel the sale" (which is what my gut says right

now)the buyer typically appears and completes the transaction.

Some of the more experienced members like Harvey, Slym or Skypink might be able to help you more in regards to the aspect of your obligations to the prospective buyer.

    2c

With respect to the 30 days IMO it does not apply here. An "I'll take it pending scan" is not on par with an actual transaction, since nothing is "transacting". The pending scan stuff is simply the indulgence of the seller to give someone first look at a book, it is not a sale, there is no obligation on the buyer to still purchase the book after seeing the scan. It is a non-transaction.

Just my 2c also, but there is an obligation on a person benefiting from that procedure (and it sure benefits the prospective buyer more than the seller) to be prompt in response. Your 8-19 date is more than generous.

Ahh... I understand. Very interesting. hm

  11. I've picked up a couple more of those cabinets since that photo! (and I eliminated those out of order numbers).

WOW! That is an extensive figurine collection. It looks like you have all of them. I think they released a Destro too right? Very cool!

I love that StormShadow cover on the right I just picked up a copy of that issue myself. The drawing is so cool.

    So that's 15 drawers of 45 slabs each? :o

  12. A few months ago I put in a best offer for a CGC book listed on eBay. The eBay store is a board member here under the same name. The offer was for $100.The BIN was $125. I am still a little disappointed in that the seller did not respond with a counter/decline. I got not response. I asked the seller in one email if they had gotten my offer. No response. I checked their feedback on eBay and they had a few negatives pointing towards an indifferent incompetence to their merchandise and customers.

I later purchased the book in the same grade elsewhere for $95 dollars. My offer was not out of line I feel. I am not trying to start a tit for tat here which is exactly what I avoided on eBay.

My concern is would I be out of line to inform other board members of them? Would any one care to hear the name of the boardy? Or is more trouble than its worth because I know where the grass is greenest and I should take my issue out to pasture?

  13. I do not know GPA. Even with Destro's first full appearance it does not have its own line heading in the guide.I could not see myself paying more than $100 for it even at 9.8. Issue 13 with a more brief appearance had a much weightier feel to it.

As far as first full apps go issue 25 is chock full of new characters. By price the guide is giving it a higher ranking than either of the "history issues" (26 &27). I can see it having key significance as it

is also a pivotal issue in the story line moving out of the Rockies to the Everglades. Focusing on Storm Shadows escape from Alcatraz with Zartan being a strong link in the enemies backbone for quite a long while. 2 roles in the Movies as well.

I raised an eyebrow when I saw this years guide although admittedly issue 25 spent a good while being overlooked.

To me, #24 has always been the key book to have. It's the 1st appearance of both Zartan and Firefly (one of my favorites).

Sure, I know it has the whole Hulk 180/181 thing going on, but to me it's the 1st Zartan. 2c

I definitely hear you on the "first full app" thing. Sometimes getting just a glimpse of the characters you know is going to be bad azz is so much more potent.

Issue #24 is my all time favorite issue . I am hoping to get a 9.4 slab this year. Nothing on the open market recently that I have seen. Russ Heath art really sets the series off as one of the war artists. Firefly is another well developed fixture of the ARAH series.
