  1. not to on the parade, but i had a situation a few years back where my storage unit somehow flooded -which to this day I have no clue how this happened considering it was in the middle on the 6th floor of a 12 story building. essentially a pipe broke and there was a faulty line built into the ceiling where excess water would run and drip off. A complete nightmare as I get home after work and get the worst phone call you can possibly get saying your unit is under water you need to get over here. I arrived and there is 5 to 6 inches at minimum covering the entire floor. I was going bat-mess crazy.

    Too make a long story short I have a 300k policy with collectinsure and had a time with them getting a payout. Getting the adjustor to arrive was one thing and the payout was another. This whole process was a headache and took over a year and I had to lawyer up which cost me five figures in legal fees and I had to threaten litigation. Looking back I should have used my current homeowners insurance policy and boosted my coverage. Perhaps because the adjuster would have been local things would have been much easier.

    I really don't want to say much more because it was one of the most difficult times in my life, I slipped into a depression and I cringe having to even talk about it till this day. Think of your worst dreams coming true.

    This was helpful. Thank you for sharing.

  2. Can anyone give me some advice about insuring comics books? Is there a separate insurance plan for collectibles or is it done through homeowners insurance in case of fire, theft or flood etc...I suppose it would all hinge upon the value of the collection but as my collection grows I would like to make sure the money I am spending doesn't go for nothing.

    Thanks very much!

  3. I could have sworn there were a couple of issues where Larry Hama didn't write the story. hm Where's silent master? He would know this! :gossip:

    In the meantime, I'm collecting all the Silent Issues. Here's the two I got signed with this bunch.

    And here's the latest and most unknown of the silent issues! (I think). I got two done, so if anyone wants to talk trade or sale PM me. ;) Both 9.8 grade.

    Rings a bell. Double checking Wiki it says there were a couple of issues Hama did not write but exactly which is not stated. I was only able to find out that Herb Trimpe, Eric Fein and Steve Grant were writers also. Although I would be quite surprised to find Larry Hama did not ultimately approve of the issues scripts himself.

    I have that cover of Origins but I like the B variant a little better.

    I think issue # 85 of the original series was a silent issue as well. I really like the story in that with Zartan and the red ninjas vs. Storm Shadow. Tommy is a really great character in that he was so conflicted pertaining to his uncles murder. He had a really great character development.

  4.

    You know I read this originally off the shelf when it came out and I enjoyed the whole Serpentor storyline - I thought they (Hama) could have done a lot more with this character, especially with Storm Shadow's DNA mixed in there.

    I think this comic was the beginning of the end of the series peak. Hama could have done more but from what I have heard in interviews and such; his hands were tied because he was being steered from pressure by Hasbro. This ultimately curtailed his creative genius.

    This is the point in the series when it started to get "sci-fi" but some very solid writing continued for a couple more years.

  5. It probably sounds better to say the price is xx, but you can get a discount for cash or check.

    This is a recurring discussion here, and it fascinates me each time.

    Is there really a difference between a seller saying:

    1) Book costs $1030, but take a $30 discount if paying cash or check;

    vs

    2) Book costs $1000, but add $30 if paying via fee-based PayPal;

    The only difference is mental, right? Why does the phrasing in #2 bother us so much more than #1? This is just a rhetorical question, of course...just one of the vagaries of human psychology, I suppose...fascinating.

    People getting a discount. :banana:

    People getting an extra fee. :pullhair:

    People paying a fee they don't know they are paying. zzz

  6. I have shown these two books off elsewhere on the boards here however I thought maybe some of the other GI Joe fans might be interested to see them as well.

    These were actually a jewel in my collection just because I remember growing up and having older family members tell me that GI Joe had been around for a long time.It would confuse me so I would ask what they meant and well.... this is part of what they were talking about.

    I have had these a couple of months and have no intent of getting rid of them. I realize its not by Larry Hama but its still really cool!
