Of course...though keep in mind that Peter has not announced any 2024 appearances officially.  Chances are, he won't announce anything in advance.  At the Granite show in September, there were whispers that he might show up, but only if he wakes up one day and feels like it.  I think he liked the spontaneous nature of the signing and I could see him doing something similar in 2024.

In other words, you'll likely need to plan your trip with the understanding that Laird is not a given.  Plan on being there for the full length all days and have your book handy just in case he shows up.

If you do plan on going to the show, feel free to reach out as we get closer...maybe 1-2 week's notice.  While I can't promise that I'll personally be witnessing or facilitating (too far out to tell yet), I will 100% be able to set you up to make sure your book gets/maintains SS status.  I'm not the only game in town or anything, but I've been doing this kind of thing for a long time and I'm happy to help out a fellow TMNT fan.

Appreciate the feedback and would definitely consider reaching out to you closer to the con 😊

With how elusive Peter has been in the past (and more recently this year) I feel like it's always a gamble if he might show up at a con nearby to him. I'm hoping that with the significance of next year's anniversary that it might encourage him to venture out a bit more, with Granite seemingly the biggest for us turtle fans. I know I'll still enjoy seeing all the talent and fellow fans there, but a bit hesitant to start organising such a big trip when it could be to no avail with Peter not attending.

  2. So I'm in a bit of a predicament currently when it comes to the 40th anniversary celebrations next year.

First of all, I'm based in Australia. With the horrible USD->AUD conversion everything is super expensive (eg. plane tickets, transfers, accommodation, con tickets).
Secondly, I separated from my wife late last year and currently still working through asset assignment, which includes a number of TMNT books that can fetch a hefty sum.
Thirdly, I've always wished to get Peter's signature CGC witnessed on the #1 my ex and I currently own.

So apart from wanting to be there for the anniversary celebrations, with my ex's blessing (TBA) I might be able to attend Granite Con with the #1 for a CGC signing.
Would there be any fellow turtle aficionados that would be able to help facilitate a potential CGC witnessed Peter signing?

  3. I have a paid membership and I'm still waiting for my grades from my TLR submissions, yet I'm seeing people with free-tier submissions having books back already. Just slightly annoyed I've paid for a tier and not getting books back sooner than the free tier.

Anyway, anyone else still waiting to get books back from the recent TLR signing?

Sold my original 9.8 years ago to Adam thinking it'd be easy to get another...little did I know the census would barely budge on this this book after all these years. So I gave up on looking for one and figured I'd just get a 9.6 or so at some point. No rush since in lower grades was fairly readily available. I still may settle for a 9.6 on this book as I'm still mainly collecting art (the original reason I sold in the first place...) but for now at least a 9.8 is back in the collection. :)

So happy to finally get another to pair with the original cover art I own as well. Screenshot_20211117-204952_eBay.thumb.jpg.6dc06725e1447fdfa218b3d7017c7d3c.jpg

    Nice pickup!

I saw that book on offer and missed out by a couple of seconds 😭 One of my favourite covers due to the beautiful sunset, so striking.

Thank you for sharing the original art. How big is the piece?

  5. I've been on the lookout for a #2 and #3 first prints in 9.8 this year and have watched the prices follow the wave and I think for these books (and a couple of others) are on their way down now.

If you look at HA hammer prices alone last week a #2 OW/W went for $1920, the month before one went for $2880 and another back in June: $4320.

#1s are obviously a different story but I feel other previously bumped up books are coming down to where they used to somewhat be.

  6. There's a #1 9.8 First Print that you can BIN on Comic Connect: $250k!

    https://www.comicconnect.com/item/929799?tzf=1

They've rejected 2 offers so far, the highest being $220k. I feel the asking is a little too rich currently, but with how crazy prices have become plus the recent sale of $180k and that 9.8 first prints don't come up often it's quite possible the book will hit over $200k for the first time.

Never say never but a private CGC signing seems like something Pete would actively avoid. He greatly values his privacy and for many years now has only ever attended conventions when with his friend, Steve Lavigne.

Now I do know Steve will be doing a CGC private signing later this summer/fall so there's the faint glimmer of possibility he will ask Pete to join in but I would be shocked if that actually happened.

I don't at all blame any creators for doing a private signing. They are lucrative and probably kind of fun for the creator if they are into that kind of thing but I'm guessing they can be stressful as well, especially for the creators that have mountains of boxes of comics staring them in the face waiting to be signed.

If the signing is not nearby to where he lives it'll be an instant no, and I feel it would only happen if Steve was present. Even then it'll take a miracle for him to say yes (as much as I'd want that to happen) and probably would be a low hard cap on sigs per person and probably in total too.

With Peter's retirement in full swing I think he might be done with the turtles, but I still hold out hope one day a signing will happen in future with him. If that day ever comes, I'll be flying over from down under with bells on! 😂

It has come the time….a time that I never knew when would happen, let alone “if” it would ever happen. But it has arrived actually and finally here - adding the last 9.8 issue to my TMNT Volume #1 Registry set!:acclaim:

A feat I can’t believe I have achieved. A feat that honestly, I thought others would have achieved well before me. It was just a surreal feeling adding this book into the Registry and so weird being technically done with creating a 9.8 set. Really hasn’t even sunk in. (Nor do I want it to yet)

The issue, is not just any ol book either, but the historically insanely tough #28! Another brutally unforgiving black cover (I have created three of the 9.6s that are floating around in the census/world) This book, for me, was top 3 hardest TMNT books for me to acquire in 9.8. I never would have one if it wasn’t for @Turtle back in March :foryou:

He parted with his  #28, which at the time was one of of the two 9.8 28s. A book he was OO and sent it in to get slabbed, achieving an extremely rare 9.8 grade.
So I can’t thank-you enough Adam for what you did. Honored to have your #28 and beyond grateful that this book is the one that completes my Registry set - Thank-you my man! 🏆

    My 9.8 TMNT Set:)

A thing of beauty that set! 😍

So with the hunt finally being complete and successful, what's next? It's strange, the hunt is secondary to the books themselves and I think you might feel a little lost now that the search is over. That's how I'd feel with the collecting bug anyway - I'd be onto the next pursuit, lol!

One the topic of 9.8s, I'm scratching my head a little why #47's GPA is so high, greater than say a #3 or #4? I get there a Sakai story but no FAP for example - what am I missing here?

How much rum will it take to buy a #1 first print?!

Lol, certainly don't have enough for one of those nowadays ... I'd probably need an actual (and full) vat to sell now to get one! 😂

    Totally appreciate it @Gump24601🤘
It has been a trip that’s for sure.
Btw coming from a gent who has a 9.8 SS TMNT #1! 🙇‍♂️ and I believe the first 9.8 SS TMNT #1 🙇‍♂️

I totally get your question not crazy at all. I have actually thought about through the years upon owning my 9.6 #1. There would still only be one book, my first print #1. Since I have been blessed through the years with many cool/unique SS books from Boardies, eBay, auctions. Furthermore, I’m so fricken grateful how many Laird’s I have! Obviously the ratio of Kevin and Peter sigs or especially just Peter sigs vs Kevin’s….are far less.

If I had a magic wand, it would be to have, Eastman AND Laird both sign it (no sketches) in white and they would be on the back cover. My first choice is both signing on the bottom. (Hope you don’t mind, I used your book🤤 to show what I was thinking) But if they needed more room, than top.
I don’t think I could risk it, I haven’t pulled the trigger since 2014 and don’t know if ever could. If somebody has a magic wand (that works 100% of the time 60% of the time lmk!!) 😂

    Appreciate it @Icculus308win 🥰 - I wasn't the first 9.8 SS and I hope I'm not the last!

I'm actually of the same opinion regarding signatures: I'd probably be seen as mental but I would really like Peter's sig on the #1. Again, I'm far too late to the game but still hold out hope he does a local con or maybe like a 40th anniversary celebration at Jetpack - I'd be there with bells on!

So many ways to skin a cat. A white marker would really be in keeping with the colours of the 1st-3rd print of #1. With mine having gold marker on the front used I'll have to keep with that theme, but if I had my time again white would have been a great choice!

I do have Peter's sig on other books but on the #1 would be the ultimate for me!

  10. Well I've been out of the volume 1 collecting game for a bit and only now I've stupidly decided to start chasing 9.8s xD

Going to be tough and definitely behind the 8 ball. Time to sell off the rum collection and trade it for comics!

@Icculus308winyour collection is a thing of beauty! I found it yesterday and after a few minutes I had forgotten my mouth was still wipe open! Probably a crazy thought, but would you ever consider cracking any blue labels to get SS'd?
