  1. The project looks interesting. Have you ever talked about your Kickstarter process? I self-publish children's books and I have a few comic projects in the works. I've been doing a lot of reading and research on running Kickstarters but I don't know if I'm going to go that route. You've done several (12, I think?) and you had a decent following when the project went live. I'm curious about your thoughts on pricing the comics ($9 each + shipping?) and, for an ongoing series, the advantage of doing 1 or 2 issues at a time vs. doing a full TPB at some later date. Outside of your personal contacts, the boards, and just growing your following through many projects, how have your grown your supporter list? If you're willing to discuss these things, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

I absolutely love the half-tone dot fade in the title font!!

Have you ever tried just hand inking on a lightbox?  Taking a photo and hitting the "find edges" filter in photoshop seems to lessen the impact of the images for me.  There's something special about a human hand making marks on paper....

Too much background white/emptiness.  Maybe you can throw some "manga" speed lines back there radiating out from your center character.  And if the title is going to be color, maybe drop some hues behind your figure art.

Thanks for the feedback. It's funny that you called out how awesome the logo is, which is the one thing I didn't do on the cover. That was done by a board member, and, yes, it is really cool. Price was reasonable, and definitely worth it.

On the interior artwork, I don't know that the lightbox or the anime-style lines would fit with my style and abilities. I have some stories that had more background than others, and I like the less busy background. But you do raise a good point when I look at the pages as a whole, so I'll take another look at the overall style.

On the cover, I can definitely do more to fill in the blank space, and I'll play around with that. I'm still also trying to figure out if I want to go with a color or black and white cover. The interior art is all black and white. I just converted the front and back cover to black and white to compare them. If I do end up going with black and white, I would re-do some of the visual elements (#1, enter the bestower) as black and white, rather than just convert them like I did here.

    Now we're talkin'!

Premise: widowed father suffers from trauma after his young daughter was accidentally killed in a gang crossfire. He is temporarily put under a psychiatric watch. As the story progresses, you learn about the events from flashbacks. Ultimately, the father thinks getting revenge on the gang will bring him closure. He buys a gun, does minimal training, and begins hunting them.

Good luck with the launch of your graphic novel! How long will it be after you take your beta results and put it into the comic format?

I don't have a good estimate at the moment, unfortunately. Being a writer, I'm always reliant on the illustrators, and my illustrator is a bit behind schedule. I have some updates to make on the 2nd book from some initial feedback, and I've been working on some shorter 1-page "stories" (more like comic strips) for us to use as promos. In the meantime, I have my 4th children's book coming out in about a month, so I'm working on finalizing my marketing plan. I'm also writing a dark, gritty graphic novel, so there's always something to do while I wait on artwork.
