  1. I'll post some others next opportunity I get
  2. Huey, Dewey and Louie 68, Mickey Mouse 211, Chip and Dale 71
  3. Daffy Duck 135; Bugs Bunny 226; Yosemite Sam 72
  4. I've got all those except the Star Wars. I'll post them when I get a chance, along with some others
  5. Nice! Any Popeyes or a Black Hole 4? Not this time, but this is the same flea market where I found the Popeye 158 I reported here about earlier in the summer.
  6. Found a bunch of Whitman's at an annual flea market (about 25 in all). A few are on the rares list, including an Uncle Scrooge 179. I was especially stoked to find 3 high-grade copies of the Whitman 75¢ price variants.
  7. The first print is pretty tough, but the BS 9 (first Omaha) is much tougher:
  8. Homegrown - 9th (if it doesn't say which printing) YL 5 - Can't tell with the sticker, but 1st-3rd have 1.00 cover price, 1.25 and up are 4th and later YL 4- not sure YL 3 - (again not sure - would have to look at interior) but it looks like a 3rd. YL 1 - also looks like a 3rd Mr Natural 1 - 7th Mr Natural 2 - 3rd
  9. I'm amazed at the jump IF 14 made. Though you would still need to pay roughly 3-4 times the OS 9.2 price to get a certified 9.2.
  10. Here is an excerpt from an ad for a garage sale that happened last Saturday: So I got up early and was the first to arrive. I missed out on a few garage sales just this past month because early birds hauled everything away so I really wanted to avoid this from happening again. Anyhow, there were about 10 long boxes and I decided to stick with BA Spidey's and walked away with some of the nicer grades. All in all, I'm glad I went. The mistake he made (likely due to familiarity with modern) was pricing the late 80's and 90's stuff too high, and his early stuff on the low side. Some of the notable issues were an ASM 100 and 238, and 8 other 20/25/30 cent ASM's issues that I can't recall by memory, but were in too nice a shape to pass up. I also picked up an old childhood fav of mine - Fun and Games #1
  11. Cool stuff! I never knew they made HC editions. Nice find!
  12. Not rare perhaps, if we're just talking about total remaining copies in any grade, but certainly scarce compared to other books of the time. Finding the last few issues of series like Masters of the Universe, Thundercats, and a few others have been a real bear if you're looking for NM+ copies. I've bought a dozen OO predominatly Copper collections in the last ten years and none have inlcuded runs of Star books, even though the owners would collect most every other drekky Marvel title. Not disagreeing with you in any way. But the Stars, even rare relatively, don't even come close to books like Albedo #0, Gobbledygook 1 & 2, 3D/2Ds, etc. And leaving grade out of the discussion, they become downright common. The Star Canadian Price Variants are tough in any grade. Someone mentioned RAW mags - #2 is especially tough as it contains the Maus insert which is, more often than not, missing or detached if accompanied with the book. From the Whitman's, the top 10 from the rares list, Black Hole 4, and the 75¢ Price Variants (especially the one shots like Bambi, Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan). I will certainly agree that the Star Canadian price editions are rare. They started out in a market that was 1/10th the size of the US to begin with, and Star comics didn't sell (too) well in the US. That gave them a double whammy. I suspect that the Star Canadians are the toughest Canadians, barring some oddball one shots and minis (like the 1985 DC "Funny Stuff Sticking Stuffer #1" Christmas special, which may not even exist anymore.) I think the Whitman Canadians are in a heated tie, and slightly ahead as certain issues and one-shots* can be tougher than the 75¢ and later 95¢ Stars. Here is a list of some of the more difficult 75¢ Whitmans: winnie the pooh 32 peter pan 1* little lulu 268 popeye 171 alice in wonderland 1* tom and jerry 344 winnie the pooh 33 woody woodpecker 201 bambi 1* yosemite sam 81 pink panther 87 uncle scrooge 209
  13. Yes there are. From a research persective, one of the coolest Charlton's is the Fightin' Army #169, which used a US cover overprint with a 75¢ price (you can still see the faded, light purple 60¢ price beneath the 75¢ price) Here is how the regular 60¢ copy looks:

  15. I went to an outdoor market near my place yesterday that happens only twice a year - easily over a thousand vendors selling everything including the kitchen sink (ok maybe not a sink, but I did see a one of those old school drinking fountains). It takes an entire day to cover the entire grounds. Picked up only three comics - one of them was one of the tougher Whitman's - Popeye 158 (this isn't the actual copy, but here's the issue I'm referring to) in VF shape. I even made a strong offer to buy a 60's era comic stand (not a spinner) but they wouldn't sell.
  16. I picked this up at a local Goodwill for 50¢ - number 18 on the Whitman list
