  1. but but but you're a ... GIRL A girl? Eeewwwww! yeh, but she does knows the secret password...and she did start the club...she's like Darla! except she collects comics too! <3
  2. This brings me to what I alluded to earlier. The sale of the Cindrella 6.0 at Sparkle in March for $2188 was most probably the impetus for Michael's 5.5 which was graded in May and the 7.5 which was graded in June. The 6.0 went into the hands of a private collector who is more interested now in baseball cards than comics. I think it was a whim from a guy that could afford it. The 7.5 may be along those same lines. A collector, rather than a dealer. If it was a dealer, we probably would have seen it come to market since then. That's why I think that for trading purposes, 5.5 is the highest CL 25 we'll see. Whoever bought it made a wise move. imho of course!
  3. I think comixnoir fits in there somewhere as well.
  4. Perhaps! you deep pocket guys drive me crazy! My wife, who is a very wise woman (and not just for marrying me you understand) told me two important things only a fool argues with the market romance comics are for sissy boys I would argue the first point, and my feelings were deeply hurt on the other.
  5. Gentlemen I stand ready to tell you why, unequivocally, what is happening should not be happening! Later. In the meantime, to those who are circling the 6th st copy because it is more affordable than the CL 5.5, caution is advised. There may be more copies than you know out there. Just 2 more coming in at 6.0 or better will puncture this balloon right quick. And I think we can safely say that IF they are out there, you will see them this year due to these prices. imho the TAR 9 cover is not great - just . Really, more beefcake than cheesecake. The blonde is not drawn very well, far from Baker's best. No making out, no hints of violence or submission. The tropical beach setting is nice, but there are better. And what are those lines in the sky? Are they supposed to be clouds? Baker had swipes for everything, what happened there? The main thing it's got going for it is a double entendre straight out of beavis and butthead - you said hold d*ck heh heh heh Cinderella Love 25, while not my #1 favorite cover, in terms of its artistry is so much better. It has proven itself over time as iconic (at least, until now!). More later on pricing/demand & supply. Hint: there really isn't as much supply as you think.
  6. So a Cinderella Love 25 5.5 will end up going for less than a Teen-Age Romances 9 5.5? That is disturbing. and what's with the Nance, Nancy sig on the cover. Very distinctive. I have seen that many times on random romance...and no one seems to know what that is about. and oh yeh...which one of you jokers got the bargain?
  7. Boot does have some great books. Shoot, everybody seems to have a copy of GCE 13 - except me! Oh well, I do have some other stuff. I happen to have some Negro Romance, too. Not #4 though. At least, not yet. Other than the Negro Romance group, this might be the only other black character showing up in romance until the swinging 70's. Like Boot, I've got one of the four little Comic Media digests, although mine's a Honeymoon Romance. They are hard to find, and of course harder to find in grade. Here's my copy of Girl Comics 3. This is as nice as I could find in 25 years of looking. And a few bonus books for checking in. I give you the masterful Bill Ward and the inimitable Walter Johnson.

  9. Two Canteens, #1 & #3, just went for decent (for the seller!) prices on the Bay. No back cover scans didn't seem to slow the crowd down. Are congrats owed to any of the usual suspects? or are you all Canteened out?
  10. Just finished a transaction with Joe - a buy of a sweet war slab. He's got premium goods, and had attractive pricing. Joe was open to a PM offer, and worked with me until we had a meeting of the minds. Didn't cop an attitude, even though I'm a newbie to war books and didn't really know what I was asking for. He was willing to ship any way I wanted him to. Sure, it was my dime, but you'd be surprised how many won't bend for special requests. Certainly a welcome addition to the boards. Good luck with all future sales, Joe!
  11. SIDEWALK ROMANCE You always did have a deep bench, Boot. Live and breathe comics, you do. Are you gonna give me a hard time on the Lucky book coming up? But you probably have one already, I'm thinking. Doc Carter too?

  13. the Eye that never sleeps? at least they're in La Familia
  14. It's not for me but I reckon that book has plenty of room to go further. And further still. Better tighten your belt Rick! Can't wait to see the fireworks on the Cinderella. I think the fact that it's not doing the traditional 95% runup in the first 2 hours is very auspicious. And you certainly gave the world a chance to take it off the table well before this, Michael. I've never been so willing to see a book sail clean out of sight!
  15. The opinion of a professional artist
  16. Thanks Bo. Here's a tough one. Dell. Huge publisher, but incredibly small footprint in the romance space. Non-existent, really, as their one attempt (Four Color #324) was more of a cross-over. I hardly count this as belonging in a romance index. A decent cover, I suppose - I've certainly seen worse. Michelle Nolan also counts Dell's two issue run of Private Secretary in her romance index. I don't count this title in mine. But the painted covers, especially this #2 with it's allover red tone, intrigue me.
  17. Well, I know a teensy bit more overall about romance than most, but that's about it. Bo_Hogg, who probably has forgot more about rare books than most people know, is correct on all of these. And comicnoir has been dabbling in the genre for years as well. I have most of the ZD Romantic Marriage run, but I've never gotten my hands on #10. The Marilyn Sweethearts is certainly on the top 20 rare romance. And I use the term as in, hard to find and valuable. There are many hard or impossible to find romance books, which doesn't mean you'll get $10 for them. They were just so that nobody bothered to hang onto one. #119 isn't like that. I bought all of the Crowley Sweethearts run, but the dealer who brought the Crowleys out, Beschara Malouf now of Nostalgic Investments and dealing primarily in OA, wouldn't include this one. I almost threatened to walk from the deal over it, but I knew my bluff would be called, so I didn't bother with the gratuitous gesture. I did manage eventually to get my hands on a copy - in a Sweethearts small bound volume, 119 (Marilyn), 120 (I Lived in an Atom Blast Town), and 121 (Liz Taylor). I believe it was the Dentist's. GCE 13 is of course tough. Most of the big Fox books from the 6th Street Collection certainly fall into this category. As do Negro Romance, Daring Love, It Rhymes with Lust, the tiny Comic Media Confessions of Love and Honeymoon Romances. Girl Comics 3 (Liz Taylor). There are about 20 or so one shot romance books that you'll never see, but they're not particularly valuable. Same with the early Charlton silver romance. Bo, would you mind reposting your pics of Enchantment Visualettes for us? These were under discussion in a previous thread on this topic some years ago.
  18. You saw that nice Texan, too? Texan3 canadian blb = persona non grata extremosa
  19. has baker western left the station too?
  20. well with these prices there should be a steady flow of low grade baker. not that there hasn't been. ebay is steady, and new slabs keep getting graded almost every 2 weeks. but with VG at $500, FN at $1000 - we should start seeing more VF/NM looking for $1500. Not that we haven't seen that happen at sparkle last year (you know who you are!), but it could become more mainstream. Price will always break books free, but to guys with money, this ISN'T real money as far as comics go. Only in the romance world is it huge. Still, an undervalued asset. imho!
  21. OMG. That auction was really something. I almost went for the TLP 5, but just...couldn't. Who knows what it would have taken. Rick Starr, congrats.
