  1. At Atlas that would have been Vinnie "I don't get no respect" Colletta on the inks. Next to Steranko the most interesting man in comics. imho of course
  2. Hey Sqeggs Nice book. As I recall, some of the other Hillmans including this one are reminiscent of Baker, but the answer is - no Hillman for Baker. In questions like these, while it may not be absolutely definitive, the Baker Index in Alter Ego #47 is close enough. Indispensable. When Jim Vadeboncoeur Jr participates in the indexing it's the real deal. They do have a question mark on that old favorite did he or didn't he? Negro Romances 4. The other must have resource - Benson's St John checklist http://www.fantagraphics.com/downloads/stjohnchecklist.pdf This is old old old news to some or most but thought I'd restate just in case.
  3. and online saves just a little bit more $$$$ Doesnt that require you to know pretty much the exact weight beforehand? btw - if you want to ship from home you'll need a scale I recommend this one highly. Terrific investment, pays for itself in shipping costs (much less convenience!) within a few shipments. Tree SPS SG-34 You can get it on amazon for $23.99. Weighs up to 75 lbs accurately. I've checked against the post office scale in the lobby and at the counter - right on the money. http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Postal-Shipping-Postage-Scales/dp/B002TWEXXM/ref=pd_sbs_op_1/189-2466617-1314767
  4. and online saves just a little bit more $$$$ Doesnt that require you to know pretty much the exact weight beforehand? It requires you to enter a weight into the application in order to print out the label. I have often wondered how that weight is checked if you just drop the package into a receptacle.
  5. You're probably right, the buyer doesn't have a history of big purchases anywhere approaching this amount, and the explanation was cryptic. I'm prejudiced against the seller in advance I suppose, the attic is a time honored ploy by dealers who find that for some reason that excites buyers beyond reason. Which in the case of any of these books - if you're not going to press them, and all the bidders are? then I don't get it at all. Really. Not that it really matters whether it's a dealer or not - the book's the book. And the other items the seller has sold are not what you'd call dealer's stock: vintage feed bags!
  6. That original Teen-Age Diary Secrets 6 is back on Ebay. Same book, same description. I've asked the seller for an explanation - the most obvious of course is that it was returned. By the way, with this particular seller, who's running the old "found it in my parents attic" routine, the thinking among those of us here who've bid is - clean book, I'll just get it pressed, no problem? UPDATE: So I also asked the buyer to share anything he/she can about that so as to prevent the rest of us from making a costly mistake. I received an answer, which I don't think is betraying a confidence to reveal the jist of: buyer beware, you might want to stay clear of this seller.
  7. Well all it takes is two to drive a sale, but not necessarily a market. I don't expect Overstreet to revise their numbers anytime soon! The only credited Marilyn comic book cover that I know of. That Sweethearts run also has a credited Elizabeth Taylor cover.
  8. Recently concluded a satisfying transaction with Ed. As others have said, the communication was a pleasure, the payment was instantaneous, and he let me know he received the package successfully. I look forward to more transactions with Ed. Overall great guy!
  9. That is one good looking book Pumpkin. I've been collecting romance a long time and I still don't have that issue. In grade, that is - I'm no completist. I assume you bought it? Please show us the back cover when you've got it? And, uhhh...the seller's name?

  11. Time for a brief palate cleanser between all the fantastic horror, scifi, war, etc? Those black covers are always a challenge, and the romance westerns are particularly elusive in grade.
  12. Got a Teen-Age Love 6 from Rick. That low issue number was quite needed. Based on crassus' feedback above, looks like Rick is into girly books on the side. Great book, great price, fast ship, secure pack. Then he turns right around and buys a few books off me. All with the great attitude and a wicked sharp sense of humor included, no extra charge. Recommended to all as either a buyer or a seller. Keep it up Rick! (that's what she said...)
  13. Nice pickup sir. It doesn't come around too often. There was a time a few years ago when anytime it did it would spark a nasty bidding war. I just think all the other antiC guys have their copies already?
  14. There is no such thing. There are situations that don't get righted because one or both parties are knuckleheads or hard-headed. But any situation can be resolved. And most of the lingering situations could have been resolved long ago with a simple "I'm sorry" or "What can I do to make it right?". +1 CC, I think you missed the boat on placing him on the PL list, though others will disagree. Which doesn't mean you can't get resolution, as Mr. B points out. I would continue an attempt to communicate privately and from the heart about this. Something beneficial might be rescued from this experience.
  15. I agree about the point of the PL, and it certainly appears as if Rawisokv has handled his affairs in less than exemplary fashion. As you suggest, I agree it was Anthony's place to make the nomination. As it was yours at the time of nonpayment following the FanExpo in August, 2011. While the Probation Guidelines/Rules do not speak to a "statute of limitations" on the nominating procedure, the language implies a timely nomination, at least in my mind: 2) Notification on the Probation Discussion Thread a) After the 30 Day Rule is fulfilled, the accuser will send a PM to the accused informing them the issue is being submitted to the Probation Discussion Thread for their inclusion in the PL. This should be a new PM and not part of an existing PM chain. So one of the questions for me is why didn't you nominate him then, and why is that reason not sufficient now? Without some compelling argument, my personal opinion is that approx 1 1/2 years is too much time to pass to put up a nomination, especially an off boards transaction. I also think this is a good reason to add language to the guidelines, like After the 30 Day Rule is fulfilled, and within 90 days of that fulfillment(or something to that effect), the accuser...
  16. So, Anthony Castrillo sent a refund to phantomewan? Phantomewan if you could confirm receipt and remove your PL posting of rawisokv asap. Anthony, you were never placed on probation. Not to be a snidearse, but a legitimate question for thought - how will going private affect one's ability to manage logistics and communication?
  17. 3-ways. So complicated. Someone always gets hurt. All kidding aside, this clusterfark demonstrates a crucial point. Every contract is a promise, but every promise is not a contract. The difference is critical - it is consideration. As Revat said, "You promised him nothing. You gave him nothing." It appears as if Rawisokv is acting toolish for making promises and not keeping them, but that is not sufficient for making the PL. There is no contract between phantomewan and rawisoky because there has been no consideration, and therefore he should come off the list. While the PL has no enforcement mechanism other than shunning, it should have some basic elements of contract law as its underpinning. Why reinvent the wheel?
  18. I agree with Revat and Bababooey. The nomination should be from phantomewan on Anthony Castrillo.
  19. Thank you, what you mentioned are all reasonable examples, I agree. As far as what capacity means: "When it comes to legally binding agreements, certain people are always considered to lack the legal ability (or "capacity") to contract. As a legal matter, basically they are presumed not to know what they're doing. These people--legal minors and the mentally ill, for example--are placed into a special category. If they enter into a contract, the agreement is considered "voidable" by them (as the person who lacked capacity to enter the agreement in the first place). Voidable means that the person who lacked capacity to enter the contact can either end the contract or permit it to go ahead as agreed on. This protects the party who lacks capacity from being forced to go through with a deal that takes advantage of his or her lack of savvy." minors mental Incapacity someone totally inebriated and taken advantage of by other party
  20. Such as? You've played a big part in this social experiment, so I'm interested in your thoughts on what elements make the "contract" voidable beyond the obvious (non-disclosure of a material fact, misrepresentation, capacity, duress).
