I've only been once, and before Wizard took over. I was always a small-show sort of guy, and looking for stuff on the cheap at flea markets and antique shows. "Retail" and "comics" are two words that don't gel in my book. I know there are bargains to be had at any show: one just has to be willing go diving, as you say.

If I do get off my curmudgeon soapbox and attend Wizard, I will bring back some pics.

You can find stuff cheap everywhere Pop. Just gotta get up and do it. As I always say, at a comic book show, the bargains are usually in the boxes because people are usually to lazy to dig. I can even say that I got the better of both Terry and even Harley at WonderCon because I box dived and knew what to look for.

I went Friday and Sat but opted out for Sunday because I'd just had enough and wanted to look at my loot (which I never got around to). Funny thing was, my favorite flea market was on Sunday and I forgot about it!

tricolor was just gushing he found a copy of this a few months back..scarce?

It must be. I bought it for the incredible cover many years ago and have never been able to upgrade it. I posted it once and it was pointed out to me that the name on the cover was a Japanese fellow who was interred. Kind of like Okajima.

  4. Both SDCC and WonderCon are now freakshows. Nothing even close to what the original promoters had in mind. The reason the attendence is up is because people can't get into the freakshow down south any more. Three years ago was my last probably, and I have attended every one from the 3rd one. Also, it wasn't on Easter weekend which made LA take the hit. There was plenty of quality material at WonderCon but you were buying reprint books. I suspect there is slightly more "quality" material ie expensive books at SDCC but they won't let me in to see any more. And frankly, it ain't worth the hassle and expense.

You want an "intimate" show with quality material? Travel up end of January to Terry O'Neils show. There was even an Action #1 there last time.

I am an avid collector of comic art. When I started out 24 years ago I was very focused, started out concentrating on one character I read growing up. As time went on I was able to get a good amount of what I was after for the character and started expanding and adding comics I read growing up from silver age to 80's and some early 90s. Most of my collection is driven by nostolgia either a particular comic book issue/story or art by a specific artist.

I loved Spy vs Spy growing up drawn by Antonio Prohas. I love collecting his art, no specific gag I am looking for just ones that are funny. Though I am not intersted in any of the artists who came after him as he is THE Spy vs Spy art.

I have in the last 8 years started to collect art that I never read like golden age or just because I like the art. I started in the last year collecting Rock and Rokk related art of such groups as Black Crowes, Pink Floyd and Rolling Stones. Its amazing the amount of art out there, I get surprised by what I find every year.

I'm a big Spy vs Spy fan too!
