Yes! I meant to add that. (I was holding out for better-than-VG early on... at this point I'm happy to have one in any grade.)

As I said elsewhere in this thread, the Zodiac connection isn't even what does it for me although it's 'interesting' for sure... I just love the cover. Great racy GGA cover, and super atypical for a western with the gal in charge and the male hero powerless... a bit like some of Baker's romance covers in that unusual flipping of gender roles. Cool dark color scheme as well.

I agree. Such a great cover all on its own. I have wanted one for a long time but the Zodiac connection has put it just slightly out of reach for me.

This is my favorite ASM cover of all time (AF #15 is in its own category) and this book is heating up (or just plain hot) in higher grades. I first saw an ASM #4 as a kid at B&D Comics in Roanoke, VA in the early 1980s. It was in a glass revolving showcase and it was $75. That was a lot of money to me as a kid so I didn't buy it and all I could do was dream of owning one. I've owned several since then starting with a bargain $20 mail order purchase that I no longer have. This CGC 9.0 is the best I've come up with so far.

Was my second Marvel comic. Bought it off the drug store rack as a kid. The Sandman blew me away. How do you defeat a guy like that? Read it to bits. Still one of my favorite Spiderman issues. Sadly, I no longer have a copy.

Comics were a very important part of my investment portfolio.   You should invest in things you know and understand.  However, if your entire investment portfolio is in comic books and you are living in mom's basement, you might want to reconsider your strategy.

Many, many, many years ago I was at a small comic show. There was a guy with a table full of nice GA/SA books. We talked and he invited me over to his place.

When I got to his place, I found it was a trailer. Inside was a couch, a TV, coffee table, a mattress on the floor and was packed with mostly worthless comics. I quickly figured out that show table was his entire life savings.

    I left a lot less impressed…

What do you consider high shipping?  USPS keeps raising prices

Indeed. The problem is often, sellers pop up the actual cost of shipping a bit to compensate for fees.

Big auction houses often pad the cost of shipping with a handling fee for the same reason.

Everybody wants to squeeze as much as they can on every sale.

I always figure shipping cost, handling, buyer’s premium and taxes into my bids. Coupled with the frenzy of “being a winner”, I usually lose a lot of auctions.

It could get a 5.0 grade from CGC but not a 6.0 grade. The mistake is in thinking that eBay bidders are rational. People's bids are usually driven by emotions—not wanting to "lose" since the auction houses have brainwashed people into thinking that a willingness to pay more for an item than anyone else on the planet makes you a "winner," FOMO (fear of missing out), mania due to bipolar disorder (which is often followed by depression and suicidal ideation over having spent too much money), etc.

And that's if it's a real sale. With eBay, you never know.

Auctions only have high bidders NOT winners. The high bidder gets a minute or two of satisfaction then comes the reality of actually paying for that minute.

By the way, looks like a little possible shilling in the bidding history…

Head of a Traveler by Nicholas Blake  Pocket Books 742  1st Printing  November 1950    $20

Had another copy of this sick severed head cover by Warren Baumgartner.

Fine plus.   Square, glossy and tight, hairline reader crease, light edge wear.

  7. I probably won’t submit many. Cost and storage space. I don’t intend to sell any. They look very pretty in Mylar so what’s the point?

The ones I do will be done if they are high grade or ones I just love the covers for. Trying to get some of the pricier ones done before the prices push them over the top.

So many still fall into the “value” tier. Once graded, I suspect they will tip over to the next tier. So trying to beat the rush as prices rise. Also trying to get some of the more unusual and ones I think are overlooked done.

I’ll post the other ones I submitted when I get them back.

I will be there Friday and Saturday and then heading over Sunday to the Chicago Toy Show.  I am not much of a toy collector, but have heard that it is a cool convention to check out.

The Chicago Toy Show is one of the best shows of its kind in the US. Or at least it used to be. I haven’t been in maybe 8 years. Lots of amazing eye candy. And I have even found old comics there.

I think the McCauley is going to do surprisingly well.  Reefer Girl might just go crazy, too.

Did a boardie happen to win an obscure Bolles this weekend on eBay?  I was underbidder and have a proposition if you did... (not the sort of thing you'll see me asking too often :frustrated:)  PM ME

    But while I'm here, Bolles
