    Here's a question -- does Leia get to be a Jedi ghost too? I mean, after her turn as Flying Space Leia, ghost status has to be a given, right? Imagine them all lined up in order of ousting in the final (attempted) tear jerking scene of #9... Qui-Gon, Samuel L. Windoo, Obi-Won, Yoda, Hayden Vader, (maybe they'll throw Han in here for some reason...), Luke, Leia. Family portrait!

    Yes, but they’re still disappearing along with Skywalker Enterprises after #9, so I’d argue that the new cast were ultimately the ones that were just along for the ride. #8 was the time to wrap up the legacy cast, then let the new group carry the franchise to #9...and beyond. With no “beyond”, this really has largely been a waste of time, aside from the money generated of course.

    Are they really moving forward though? This is the last movie with the new cast, and since the focus is STILL essentially on the Skywalker clan, Rey and Co. are basically just along for the ride.

    Your second paragraph says it well. With TFA, you got the sense that they were trying to develop a new core cast to carry the Star Wars story forward. But in reality they’re just along for the ride on this bumbling, and completely arbitrary, end of the Skywalker saga. So yes, what was the point? I mean, other than the $tack$.
