What's the most ridiculous Stan lee SS???...
mattn792 replied to Wally's Comics's topic in Comics General
Why so many ASM 300s signed by Stan Lee? Or Wolverine Limited #1s? You could ask that question about a lot of books. -
Having finally got around to watching trailer #2, my hopes for this one have improved. The CGI seems to have been cleaned up very well (probably could use some more fine tuning) as the suit no longer looks like a combo of foam rubber and used drinking straws. I disagree on this, I think the internal dialogue between the two adds a great element to the movie. Especially when Eddie is first trying to figure out what is going on inside of him.

Legible and neat? You really think so? That one goes down as a clunker in my book (unless you're being facetious, in which case you failed to use the proprietary internet facetiousness font...). -

He should go a step further on the sales pitch -- "The fact is; only a finite number of Journey Into Mystery #125 comics that are in 9.8 condition and signed by Stan Lee exist." -

Been listed for months now. And I think the price keeps increasing... -
Maybe not, if the current tariffs cover Chinese made powder.

The Predator directed by Shane Black (3/2/18)
mattn792 replied to Bosco685's topic in The Movie Forum
Just caught the trailer on FXX, looks awful. Mindless one liners and been there, done that action scenes. The original Predator was great in significant part due to the suspense of “wtf is that!?!?” Now it’s been reduced to, “Hey look, a predator! Let’s shoot at it!” All that’s missing is Chris Hansen. -
Remember, 1/2 are NVA, 1/2 have TB. Only the ones that cough...

Dude! $100 to save me the trouble of filling out a CGC invoice? How can this not be worth it! (And that's giving the guy the benefit that "forum" was a typo...)

Here's a nice ray of sunshine to consider -- mightierthantheswordcomics No sale, just an annoyance you may want to avoid. Was sending offers on my 9.8 blue label Web of Spider-Man 103 (listed at $89 OBO w/free shipping). Initial offer received at $55, I counter at $75. Then the messages start (chronologically): "meet you in the middle and ready to still overpay instantly... thank you :)" (offer of $65) "last one sold for $48 lol... way to overcharge people... oh well" (extra message) "i have already come up alot. take it or leave i really dont care as this is at best a $5 book raw and with grading 35 so im already paying over double" (offer of $66) --Mr. offerer is politely informed that I'll leave it-- "Over a couple dollars... wow thanks" My final reply -- 'It's not the dollars, it's the vibe you give off. You accuse me of overcharging and put down a "take it or leave it" demand, so I'd rather not do business with you. In fact, I'll be adding you to my block list at the conclusion of this message. Lucky for you, there's two other copies of this book listed right now, similarly priced, so feel free to negotiate with one of those sellers. Or, save yourself some more money, find a 9.8 raw in a back issue box, and submit it for grading. Again, best of luck to you.' Had he not been a total __________, he'd have earned himself a Web 103 at $66 instead of a spot on my blocked list.

Patrick Stewart is back as Captain Picard

Agreed. The one free episode of Discovery was quite subpar imho, saw no reason to pay up for a streaming service. -
I was wrong. Modern variants vs. Key Issues

Ummm, because I originally brought it up when recounting a regrettable purchase, and we ran with it from there. You’re getting bent out of shape over nothing. -

This. I bought a 9.4 Hulk 181 back in May or June of this year. I'd be willing to wager that had I instead used that money on an Uncanny 510 variant, when we fast forward to 2030 I'd be ready to walk in front of a bus for once again setting my money on fire with another stupid variant purchase. -

I don't see how we don't ask that question. And expanding on the point, what is it that is really driving demand now? Scarcity of the books (1:1000, 1:10000, etc)? FOMO? Completionism? I honestly don't know the answer to that. -

mattn792 replied to valiantman's topic in Comics General
Well the initial obvious reaction is "181 homie!" But with this particular issue, there actually is more to the story to consider since its not just any old modern. Scarcity comes into play with the 145 Nabisco because no one is really sure how many of them are out there, or what condition they're in (the mail away 102.5 is even worse in this regard). With that said, I'd still have to say the 181s. While demand for those may cool off somewhat compared to what we're seeing now, it still commands its own market, whereas the market on the 145 has never recovered to the initial hysteria levels it experienced. And is there really a catalyst that is going to reinvigorate Wolverine 145 mania? I suppose if they ever put Apocalypse: The 12 into movie or Netflix series form, but that's about it. So, 145 may be a key for the 1988 set and the dedicated Wolverine collector, but 181 is a key, period. Many say THE key of the Bronze Age. Investing in 145s would be like trying to time the stock market, investing in 181s would be akin to putting your money in an S&P 500 fund -- its going to appreciate over time, and if its value ever hits zero, then the comic market itself has collapsed. -

Yeah, I definitely found that out when I dumped it. If there's ANY silver lining to be had...I bought a 9.6 copy for $200 back in 2013, and it's now an SS 9.8. -

@valiantman -- I knew I wouldn't like the answer to my question...time for some -

In my (rife with stupid) youth, I paid close to $3 grand for a 9.8 copy of the Wolverine 145 Nabisco variant (in '06 I believe). And in hindsight, back in '06, how many 181s could I have potentially bought instead with that money? Or held onto the cash for a bit longer and put it to better use in the stock market? Or...yeah, I basically set that money on fire. Lessons learned the hard way sometimes. -
Patrick Stewart is back as Captain Picard
mattn792 replied to Jordysnordy's topic in The Movie Forum
I'd prefer they go the Rambo 4 route with this. "Picard" -- Bitter and traumatized from his experiences with the Borg, Jean-Luc Picard withdraws to a small fishing village on the outskirts of Federation territory. Far from the constant hassles of Romulans and Cardassians, he lives a solitary, yet peaceful life. (Then a shipload of settlers approaches him looking for guidance to some location from his past, they get tripped up, and Picard goes all Rambo 2 AND 4 on the offenders). Good times. -

My cat doesn’t get to start collecting until she gets a job, or her stock picks beat the S&P 500 for a full calendar year.

Probably another one who let the cat use his eBay account...
