  1. We are checked in and ready to get to it! Got our bibs, six souvenir shirts, and purchased a couple other small items from the expo. I feel about as good as can be with all the training ups and downs and am ready to get started tomorrow morning. If you’re reading this and interested in using my results to make a contribution toward @jimjum12’s fundraiser, please click over to the thread in G/S/B (specifics from me are on page 4):
  2. Hi everyone! First off, just want to say how incredible this effort has been, we're going to cruise past that $30k mark easy! Fly out day is early Tuesday morning, so I wanted to make one more plug for the running challenge before we hit the road (quoted the original post from page 4). No amount is too small. Also, since I may have trouble staying on top of my PMs, anyone else wishing to contribute can also just post in the thread and tag me, and I'll update the page 4 post as time permits. So as not to clutter this thread, I'll post my time and photo updates to my event journal, which can be found here: I'll also post this link to the page 4 post shortly. I'm feeling fantastic and really looking forward to the whole endeavor, other than the VERY early morning wake-ups to get to the starting corrals. My prettier half could use a few wishes for quickly improved health though as she came down with some kind of bug yesterday. She's a bad az though, I know she'll do just fine. Keep improving every day @jimjum12!
  3. Oh it definitely reeks of a lot of things.
  4. Introducing the Ex-Men's leader, Jane Howlett: Marvel Announces A Brand-New Wolverine (msn.com)
  5. Just a quick note that the books are now for sale in the benefit thread, though Batman 163 has already sold.
  6. Is it wrong that I saw “fast food running” at first glance? Nothing but Wendy’s on your road to success! I didn’t use a specific plan, just put my own together with some help from my prettier half and her extensive Iron Man experience.
  7. Batman 163, raw, about a 5.0. Great Joker cover. Back cover scan available, just don't have it handy at the moment. $100, proceeds to Jimbo. Shipping free in the US, international at actual cost minus $10. sold to @crassus
  8. Amazing Spider-Man 51, CGC 5.5, white pages. 2nd Kingpin, and first cover appearance. $150, proceeds to Jimbo. Shipping free in the US, international at actual cost minus $20. Sold to @alexgross.com
  9. Happily I haven't needed a whole lot of treatment for anything other than the plantar fasciitis in my right foot. Early on I was really worried that training would take a big toll on my knees, but no troubles! The foot is still holding up really well too, it will bark for about 12 hours after a long run, but then it snaps back to it's normal minor aches. Maybe during this wind down period it will get that much better
  10. Hi everyone! Before I get to the books I'm donating, I want to post up the fundraiser effort that I had just kicked off centered around my participation in the upcoming Dopey Challenge at Disney World from January 4-7. What this entails is completing each of the races that they host on successive days -- 5k, 10k, half marathon, and full marathon, 48.6 total miles. This was the basis for my charity thread this year, but after hearing the terrible news about jimjum, I'm happy to re-direct my efforts here. As I posted in my own thread, for anyone wishing to take part, please have fun with your pledges -- per mile, per race, per time goal, whatever! The time goals I've set for myself in each race are as follows: 5k – 37:30 10k – 1:15:00 Half – 2:30:00 Full – 5:00:00 Total allotted moving time that I've given myself is 9 hours, 22 minutes, and 30 seconds. Land speed records will not be broken. Here is my own pledge, all proceeds to Jimbo, a friend of Jesus . - $2 per mile, which I’ll round up to a total of $100 when all miles are completed. - $50 per time goal met - $100 if I come in under my total allotted moving time So, if all criteria are met, that’ll be $400 total from me. I'm very confident in the first three races, but admittedly 5 hours might be optimistic for the marathon. We shall see though! I'll update this post continually with any new pledges as they roll in: In the interest of tidiness, I'd prefer you pm me any pledges, and I'll tag you and quote the pertinent details. Donation period will stay open throughout the races as I see no need to put a deadline on it. And I'll post results and other fun quips on a daily basis! All updates will be posted in my event journal: 5k (unofficial) - 33:44 10k (unofficial) - 1:13:45 (Disney is updating the same page with all Dopey times, so I’ll post all four official results after the marathon. So far my watch is pretty accurate to the official time.) Member pledges @Beige - "I pledge $1 per mile completed, sent direct to JimJum."
  11. Would’ve been extra funny if the labels just said “SIGNED BY”
  12. @CGC Mike Could you move this thread to general or the water cooler? I’m enjoying all this conversation but don’t want to get in the way of the sales threads. Thanks!
  13. My successful practice runs for the first three legs gave me a good confidence boost for the marathon. Even after doing 19ish miles in three days, I waken up on day four with my body feeling like I could make 26 happen. No doubt it’s going to take some mind over matter though!
  14. I tell ya, it’s been three days since my 15 mile run, and my body is still demanding “feed me!” at all hours
  15. Yessir! I’ll move this pledge into the main thread once it’s up and running.
  16. Good evening everyone - For those who didn’t see already, longtime and well respected board member @jimjum12 recently suffered a serious medical scare, and he could use our help: Therefore, I’m redirecting this year’s thread to benefit his recovery. @skypinkblu will be leading the effort, and I’ll merge all pertinent info into her thread. The prize books will instead go up for sale to benefit the cause, and the running challenge is definitely still on! Stay tuned, I’ve been told the thread should be up sometime on Friday.
  17. At this point, he hardly deserves the benefit of the doubt.
  18. It’s still better than that unhinged woman selling full body deodorant out of her basement.
  19. Who else is wondering how many customer books might be sitting in this box?
