  1. So I guess I need to update my entry into the club. I got to meet and have Jim Starlin sign my copy in Baltimore last September. Still one of my favorite books! Can't wait for the Infinity movies, hope they rock.
  2. I just went through this process. I cut a lot of the fat from my collection and have actually been happier with a narrowed focus. It can be difficult because there are so many awesome books to own. Stay the course and best of luck to you. Regarding the two options you list...I guess good advice is to buy what you love more/go with your gut. Prices for some of these older keys climb so fast that it creates (at lease for me) a sense of "I better buy this soon before it gets too high". It's both good and bad for the hobby...it's nice to see these things appreciate, but also bad for my wallet. Cheers and best of luck.
  3. That #55 cover is striking. Very nice. Might have to put it higher atop my priority buying list.
  4. First submission to CGC arrived home today. Was really great to meet and get this signed by one of my favorite creators/artists, Jim Starlin, at Baltimore Con. Wasn't exactly the grade I was hoping for, however, I really love it and it looks great on my display.
  5. Awesome story! Imagine being in that young man's shoes...or even in your shoes! How often does one get to deliver that kind of news to someone?? Sweetness.
  6. Nothing too fancy, but this is my second statue. Pretty excited, scored it on the ebay last week. It's the smaller version, but it'll work for me. Now what's next...?
  7. I think this conversation is a lesson that as a seller, one should have a clearly stated return policy in their sales thread rules. Leaving the return policy unstated opens things up to this sort of debate...as we have discussed before, there are no such things as "normal rules" in a sales thread. You must be clear. Suppose this seller, in his sales thread, had said something like "To the best of my knowledge, my books are unrestored. I will accept returns for six months (or three months, or two weeks...whatever the seller chooses) from the date of purchase, no questions asked. After that, you are out of luck. If you don't think this return policy is liberal enough, don't buy my books." We wouldn't be having this PL conversation right now, correct? The conversation is totally a teaching moment and I'm glad you folks are discussing it. And I believe the above to be really sound advice, particularly to folks like myself, regarding the inclusion of a restoration clause into everyone's sales threads. I've only had one sales thread in my brief time here and I purposefully chose books that I knew had been looked at with more experienced eyes (in this case I sold books that I purchased off HA and also one CGC book) not only for the restoration issue, but because no one here knows me. But even at that, I was lax in my return policy...I believe I said something to the effect of "we'll work it out". And now in hindsight, I need to be more clear should I choose to sell again in this forum. When I buy more expensive books, I only buy CGC books. Yes, it's more expensive but that also comes with a piece of mind I find highly valuable.
  8. To me this seems one of the more reasonable suggestions. As a casual seller (and honestly casual collector as well), this conversation has really made me pause and reconsider ever selling here again. Maybe that's a good thing, maybe you more serious/professional guys and dolls should be the sellers in this forum.
  9. Just echoing recent sentiment...gorgeous 7.0.
  10. Finished, I think, with this small display. Not sure I'm done with the bottom setup though. I have more room for some books, just can't decide which ones to store there. Guess that means I need more display space...and statues...and fancy CGC key books...
  11. Thank you! I had such a fun time at the show, everyone was so nice. I've definitely caught the DD bug.
  12. So cool! For some reason I love the simplicity of this + stacked comics always look awesome. Thanks! I'm still working on it. But the challenge is certainly keeping it simple. I have so many books I'd like to showcase and keeping it to this one piece of furniture is a real challenge! Will post updated pics when I get it to where I like it.
  13. Congrats, icculus308win! That's some display of discipline for Daredevil! Alliteration worthy, apparently. Really though, that's quite an achievement. Right on.
  14. Went to my first comic book show since high school yesterday (Sunday). Nothing special (or so I thought), just a small one day show at a Crowne Plaza near where I live. I did a once around to see what was up and asked everyone if they had Daredevil keys, #1, #4, #7, #18, etc. Many people said the same thing...that someone had cleaned them out, but they were happy the character is getting some love. Thanks Netflix! One of the dealers showed me a raw copy of #1, it was maybe in Fair condition. I mentioned that I was looking for a mid-grade CGC copy that presented well, no resto, no date stamps, writing, etc. He said he didn't have a mid-grade, but showed me a picture of this 3.0 he left at home. It looked so nice to my eyes that I said I'd love to see it in person. We chatted a little more and it turns out he works only a few metro stops from where I do, so we made plans to meet this morning so I could look at the book. Well, this picture below doesn't do it justice, but this is such a nice 3.0 that I bought it on the spot. He also sold me a VG copy of #4. All in all, I think I purchased about 30-40 Daredevil books at the show, but this was a truly wonderful surprise to land this #1. The best part was the price, less than half of what I had put aside for a 4.0-6.0 copy. Maybe I'll upgrade someday, but so happy to be in the club!
  15. Not exactly a room, but scored a small display case at Ikea today. Still messing with how to fill it, but think this could be the start of something good.
  16. Admittedly also caught the Daredevil bug. Just purchased #18, another set of Born Again, and #168 off of Etsy of all places.
  17. Good stuff! Thank you for taking the time to share.
  18. Lots of crazy new GPA highs on the book this week. $8500 for a 2.5 and then $9500 for another 2.5 a couple days later. Then a new GPA high on a 2.0, and of course these two heritage sales which are both also GPA highs. Is this movie hype or a sudden mass mob mentality of people feeling as though the book is getting out of reach and it's now or never ? -J. This is a good question. I'm a casual (sometimes serious) collector. I purchased my 2.5 CGC AF15 last September for about $7,500. My motivation was based on a bit of hysteria as I watched the price climb the past several years. I really didn't think about the movies in my consideration, maybe because Spider-Man movies have been around for a bit. In addition to the price hysteria, I did think about the book in the context of the greater comic book collecting hobby. Though it's not Action #1, it's sort of on that side of the spectrum, right? In terms of its historical importance. So, for those (and a few other personal reasons) I decided to get in the game before it is too late for me. Glad I did too, based on the auction results of late.
  19. Just an awesome cover. Thanks to a fellow boardie, I'm in the Nove Corps...or something. Dork.
  20. Very smooth transaction. Book was packaged carefully, very much appreciated. Would totally purchase from again. Many thanks, Andrew!
  21. Feedback (and words to live by) welcome!
  22. No big surprise. That figure was exclusive to HT's Asian Tour. Sideshow probably only got a relative handful of them. You have to be quick on the trigger to land those, usually. How quick will I have to be to secure that Batman figure that pre-releases Thursday? I've never ordered from them before, actually I'm pretty new to statue collecting as a whole.
  23. By the beard of Zeus!! Holy moly. I have a great spot on my shelves for this bobble.
  24. GPA reports total realized price including BP. Thank you!
