  1. Next up, a small piece of environmentally sensitive paper that changes color over time in the label section of the slabs. If it’s X color all is “good”, if it’s Y color it’s time for a reslab to upgrade the microchamber paper. The composition of this mysterious material will be proprietary, but after 5-10yrs if you want top dollar, you better not have a skunked slab (coining the term now)!

I think it's a terrible cover. The expression on the Watcher's face and his overall body language suggests that someone has reached under his robes and violated him. Not one of Kirby's bests in my opinion. It has nothing to do with needing my imagination.

I'm glad you appreciate it though!

My biggest gripe with FF48’s cover is the watcher’s forehead. I always see some kind of weird skin curtain…

Yeah I don’t even bother with heritage right now… books consistently going for 20+% over prices of same books on other auction sites. Especially while the promise collection is running, seems like a lot of deep pockets just throwing in bids on random other books in between promise collection auctions.

Isn’t heritage pretty much known to be a prime target for fraudulent bidding? Something about running up bids and then being able to retract once proxy has been exceeded..which bumps it back down to the other bidder’s max?

I’m steering clear from HA for now…

I can understand that perspective since it is the only 3.0 or higher, sale in quite a while but on the other hand...

I think there are several factors that make $10k a reasonable price point for a 3.0. As of right now, the census shows there are less copies of Marvel Family 1 in 3.0 or higher (universal copies) than All Star 8. While I'm not comparing the books in terms of relevance, I'm comparing supply. Before Aquaman was announced, a More Fun comics 73 could be had for tens of thousands less in all grades. Once rumors changed into facts, that book took off and low grade copies were in the 10s of thousands in no time. He was considered a joke character for many years and now, that book is incredibly expensive. Black Adam wasn't found in the Golden Age aside from this one book and his next appearance is roughly 32 years later. I don't count Alter Ego # 7 since it was just a fanzine. The idea that we could see Black Adam square off against Shazam (true Capt Marvel ) and Super-Man is appealing to quite a few collectors and it seems that DC has big plans for Black Adam to go from super villain to anti-hero instead. To me, that makes sense since it gives the character room to grow. With most villains, its usually a "one and done" situation, with a few exceptions. If Black Adam becomes an anti-hero, chances are, there will be several movies to follow. Had that 3.0 not had a 1 inch tear from the back cover, I would have been tempted to buy it myself. hm

Once a few start to surface, I think this 10k sale will be considered cheap.

I hope you’re right and agree the book has a lot going for it, but I have some personal insight and experience into current FMV and it’s contrary to the 3.0 $10k sale.

However, there’s always the real possibility this sale is the spark for FOMO.

@Shrevvy GoCollect seems to be running a few weeks to a few months behind. They don't have the Thor 9.8 mega sale or the JIM Annual, but the JIM Annual FM Value is now $145k in 9.8.

@BlowUpTheMoon I think Thor 162 went for a similar price as well that night.

I reverted back to gpa after gocollect cost me around $1k with their ridiculous lag.

I really don't think it mattered how the seller packed the book, it was gross negligence on the part of the USPS.

I don't disagree. Just felt relevant. I'm still grateful for someone who posted their method (which was that) somewhere... Otherwise I would have never figured out that those two specific boxes nest so well....

It seems evident to me that those USPS boxes are simply not up to the job. I've never sent out a slab in anything other than a double corrugated box, and I'm receiving more and more books from US dealers in said boxes, which usefully I can reuse to ship out. I'm sorry to the OP for his disappointment..........2c

For priority mail boxes...a well packed 1092 inside a 1095 (double-boxed). Never had an issue (knock on wood).
