  1. After 228 pages of "what's the rarest" I'm pretty confident I'm safe to post two recent Fox purchases, thanks to a boardy.
  2. Couple of more, what a cool comic book = Daring Mystery Comics #7. Who doesn't love "The Fin"?

  5. For what its worth, below is copied a Question and Answer (I'm "Patron") sent direct to the source back in 2013: ------- Tue, Mar 5, 2013, 9:40 AM Question History: Patron: I saw a comic book for sale at auction recently that stated it was "from a collection of books unearthed from the Library of Congress." Does the library occasionally divest themselves of holdings? Thank you Librarian 1: I must apologize for the tardy response to your questions--I unfortunately did not see it my queue until now. The Library does NOT as a rule divest itself of comic books--I believe the auction you refer to is one in which the material was from decades ago when policies may have been different. While other kinds of material in the Library currently may be offered to other libraries and others via our exchange program, comic books do not fall into that category. We keep all that we have. I hope this answers your question, and again, I am very sorry for the delay in responding to your question. 6. Double post, because I think its brilliant Here is an idea - how about an "if pressed grade."? Yeah, that's right. I'm going to start a grading service that says what your book "will grade" if pressed - so you don't have to actually press but you know what it will be, if pressed. The sticker will be the IPG (if pressed grade). I'm thinking for already graded comics its a +/- sign, so say for example my Rodger Dodger CGC 6.0 has an IPG +2.0. This is particularly useful for lower value books that don't warrant pressing fees, and those collectors legitimately concerned about the "press time loss factor" (PTLF). An already pressed book gets an IPG of AP-1 aka "Already Pressed, Press Time Loss Factor = -1 yr. " Benefits include warding off press and flippers to a potential re-press and providing a sense of security to those who want to fill that gap between full blown restoration and an unnatural intervention of a hot iron. Looking for investors who what to get in on ground level of this exploding opportunity, please PM me.
  7. Here is an idea we will probably see soon, instead of the bizarre and valueless (imo) Comic Verification Authority (CVA) - how about an "if pressed grade."? Yeah, that's right. 8. Might be worth advertising books as "not yet pressed" - otherwise, how will buyers know if all the pressing has already been pressed out? Or is there a positive, cumulative effect?
  9. Looks like vast majority is newspapers and magazines. But I have spotted one 10c peaking out!
  10. Not sure a forum of ardent comic collectors is truly representative of what might have happened to 99.9% comics during WWII? Sure, you wouldn't have tossed them. Indeed thankfully some didn't - but I'd reckon just by the survival numbers that many did. After all put yourself into the war era and consider what was most important and top of mind. Likely for most the unification around the war effort as family members shipped out superseded stashing comic books. Let's face it, not every kid held on for years every book they read. Parents also likely interceded. Yes, most paper was likely newspapers, and on the margin comics survival rates seems to have fared better. Real numbers are probably impossible to know. But I believe its slightly miss-leading to suggest none or very few were lost to WWII paper drives.
  11. Cool subject. Photo of (formerly) my All Winners #12 Here is a nice article with good general info, yet no specific numbers or data: http://www.sarahsundin.com/make-it-do-scrap-drives-in-world-war-ii-2/ I've personally guesstimated only about one-tenth (0.1%) of published books from the war/pre war Golden Age survive to this day, regardless of reason.
  12. Hi Lady, No I bought it as 7.5 recently on HA, just researched the history on GPA and found it interesting. Quite a drop for a crack and read (perhaps original owner is lurking on the boards)? I noticed another book, Marvel Mystery Comics #9 shows three submissions of a Larson including one Slight Professional. And yes the SP 5.0 was first, and 6.0 last? At least that example goes in the "right" direction. ( 6.0 ) Larson pedigree ( 5.5 ) Larson pedigree SP ( 5.0 ) Larson pedigree I know probably nothing new here to see, I'm just catching on. But cracking does clearly carry some risk, as evidenced by my Plas.
  13. Crippen D PM#16 pickup. I love the Mo' Money Mo' Problems GGA cover.
  14. Purchased this Ohio Plas football cover on HA - hits on several of my current collecting goals. Thought it was interesting to compare with same book sold on HA thirteen years prior in 2006, a CGC 9.0. Crackin' cost someone (guess that would be me now?) 1.5 grade points. Looks like a top left corner ding and a little more stress around staple from....reading? Don't crack out man - I'm telling you just don't do it.
