1984 by George Orwell   Signet NO. 798    1st PB edition, 2nd Print  October 1950    $45

Nice looking bargain copy of the classic Alan Harmon "Big Brother" cover art.   Early printing color scheme with the red banner at the top.

Has a nice appearance. Square and tight with higher grade structure, no big creases, just edgewear, mostly to the spine. Colors are bright but darkening at the edges as are the pages so I'm discounting this one.

Looks like Willie took his membership very seriously -- probably stamped all his comics. Hmmm, is there a "Willie Cosey" pedigree designation in the offing?

Willie appears multiple times in the MMMS lists published in those SA issues: Daredevil #37, Avengers #49, Marvel Super-Heroes #13, AND Thor #149!  Those issues all came out the same month, but that was three years after he stamped the comic you bought, FF #41.  Wonder if he ever knew he hit the quadruple whammy?

Oh wow - this is too cool!!! I have all of these books so I will now check out the letter section for exactly what you describe - this makes this book so much more special to me. Thank you so much for making this note!!

I looked at that forever trying to figure it out. Going from the blurb, he's disguised in enemy clothing and having her put on his own uniform?  Looks like love is in the air.  Has his back turned like a gentleman while she changes but taking a peek? heh heh heh.  I love it when a cover actually pulls you in to a story like that.

Guess I’ll just have to read to find out for sure, but it was intriguing at the very least right? I like stories that have a fail proof premise. This one and Brain Wave seem to fit that bill nicely.

Brain Wave by Poul Anderson   Ballantine No. 80  1st Edition $25

A gorgeous copy of this 1st edition with wraparound Powers cover art

Looks new, unread, square tight and glossy with virtually no reading/handling wear. Tiny bend to rear lower left is about it. Tough to beat.

and I’ll take this too please - really surprised this story didn’t earn itself a take already. The premise is too good to resist …I gotta read it.

    Another awesome cover...

Hang My Wreath by Ward Weaver  Popular Library No. 388  December 1951     $18

Bob Fink Union Girl stripping cover hm     I like it.

Fine Plus. Square tight and glossy. Has some light NCB creases. A fresh, pretty book overall.

I also like it - looks like she’s a Confederate girl unhappily dressed in Union garb. Even better! I’m in.

I don’t know why you’d think it’s snide or cynical. I sat on the pm, thought on it, got it a second opinion etc for the same reason.  After thinking it over and talking it over, I came to the conclusion that the thread was winding down and any potential homes had found their choices.
I had the thread up for days, multiple boardies have made small stacks with instant grabs, and I had done pm deals on a couple of the straggler books already.
In advance, I tagged lots of people in an announcement and stated no advance sales via PM to keep it fair. I could probably have sold every book via PM just from the announcement. I didn’t limit how many folks could take in the thread, and Blackmask’s take is about as many as I’ve kept for myself. And there’s seven more coming tonight, which will conclude the thread.

So I feel like I have made a strong effort to make them widely available on here at fair prices with everyone getting a shot. That was my thinking.

Actually - MAJOR edit: I'm staying out of this (for once). :)
