Update. It came back and we got the grade we were hoping for!

My son and I just recently did this exact same thing as we saved up and sold off some stuff to go to a big comic con for two days this year and had a blast. The two books we ended up buying were Tales of Suspense 39 and Flash 105. Can't recommend enough taking the cash to a show and spending it in person vs buying online as you get the thrill of discovery walking around as well as the fun of dealing with people face to face.

Congrats on a great looking book! I still think this book has so much more room to grow as he is the "center piece" of the whole marvel movie empire and his fan base continues to grow. Regardless, a great looking copy of a true silver age classic.

My son and I started watching the Flash series recently and we instantly wanted to get an early Flash book to add to our collection of mostly all Marvel books. Long story short we pulled the trigger on a raw copy of Flash #105 yesterday at Wizard World Chicago and took it to the CGC booth to be graded. Definitely an entry level copy (2.0?) but a copy non the less and can't wait to get it back.

Just unpacking after two days and can't wait to go back next year. Group of 4 of us that went , my brother and his wife experienced there first comic con, and they were instantly hooked and buying in on some silver age books as first time collectors. Most all of the dealer experiences for us were positive but did have one unusually rude booth that lost out on some sales this time and in the future as well. Regardless we had a blast and spent until we were all broke, doing our part to support the comic vendors mostly but did check out all the booths. Already making plans to book a hotel and spend the weekend again next year on our drive home today.

Heading out in the morning for two days of looking and hopefully buying. Very excited as this is always the best "comic" show of the year IMO.

If the boomers were the ones reading and then collecting there childhood superhero's, which I think they were, wouldn't the kids of today growing up watching all of these fantastic movies keep the ball rolling so to speak. That is, I'm not sure there is much difference in when or how you fell in love with the characters. You're still going to look for where they came from, and it's not going to be a collection of dvd's I'm guessing, but rather the books that they were created from. I think the typical "kid" who learned of these characters through movies will be drawn to the comic books they came from just the same as if you grew up reading the books themselves. Just my experience so far with my 13 year old son. He hasn't read a lot of the older books but he is absolutely drawn to the silver age Thor, Ironman (Avengers) and such WAY more than anything new. Looking through a long box of Tales of Suspense low grade books is what he really gets excited about -vs- anything new on a wall at the LCS.

My experience has been very different from dealer to dealer. Some i've done this with have no problem treating the "trade in" as cash and others absolutely treat as if they are buying it from you and will only give you roughly 60% or so value in trade. Never hurts to ask and if its a high end book a lot of the "more affordable" or slightly lower grade copies tend to sell faster for some dealers and are actually more desirable as they sell faster.

I've read on here before and couldn't agree more that the Marvel cinematic universe is using Iron Man (Tony Stark) as it's centerpiece and it seems they will continue to do so for some time. This being said, I believe the sky is the limit on this book and at the top of my list for next to purchase before it gets completely out of my reach. We've seen it plenty with Hulk #181 as to supply and demand as the supply is high but the demand is even higher and it just keeps going and going in price. I'm guessing there are a fraction of TOS #39 in circulation compared to Hulk 181 (maybe I'm way off here?) and I do believe IronMan's popularity is still climbing with each and every movie. Just me rambling, Any and all thoughts are welcome. Congrats to all of you with your copy already. Love looking at each of them and reading the stories attached to them.

A group of us went and LOVED it. Thought the Vulture was fantastic and loved how they tied in Civil War and the Avengers to help tell the story.

I'll vote for ASM #4 as I love the cover and Sandman is an all-time favorite villain of mine. Congrats on the Sgt. Fury #13 pick-up!

All are great choices as everyone else here has already said but I'll give my vote to Avengers #1.

Love both titles but would have to vote Avengers #4.

Not a ton of experience to share but my son and I started on an Avengers run and decided to simply go in order. Save to get #1 and then continue on in number order. We haven't been at it very long, and the first few were pricey for us, but we are currently on track to buy #4 at the August Chicago Comic Con. Definitely no right or wrong way I suppose just as long as you're having fun and I would also agree to stay within a "grade" range to keep the run consistent.

My son and I just watched it and loved it. Fun movie with a great villain and fantastic action scenes.

Great looking book! Can't wait to get one of those myself someday.

April of 2015 shows one sale of $34,000 for a CGC 9.0

Yes, it had its spike a few years ago - prices more or less trebled. That's two very good reasons right there. Could someone post the census stats on Brave and the Bold 28 versus Avengers 1? Avengers #1 total CGC graded copies shows: 2,806 Brave and the Bold #28 CGC graded copies shows: 796

It seems to have stabilized in price for now but can't help but feel it's a great time to buy a copy of Avengers #1 as the prices aren't surging right now. I'm also guessing we can expect at least 2 more movies out of this title and continuing to grow fan base with great long term staying power for this "holy grail" type book for most. There are also millions of comic collectors out there and most all would love to have a copy of Avengers #1 so the demand will always be there IMO. Zig when everyone else zags is the expression i've heard before and couldn't agree more that now is a great time to buy both Avengers and X-men as both are giant books that are as cheap as you might ever find them.

Loved it. Would go again and recommend it to anyone.
