  1. Welcome To The Boards!!! We also need pics of the rear cover and the inside front/rear covers to see if the Tatooz and paper are present.
  2. Looking at the spine, I assume this is a cardstock cover. Color breaking spine stress lines at the top of the front/rear covers, 1/8" bindery tear, it appears the cover wrap is not entirely centered at the top outer edge. Unfortunately due to the color of the cover, the spine stress lines stand out...VF+ 8.5 NM- 9.2 - Almost no stress lines. VF/NM 9.0 - A very minor accumulation of stress lines may be present if they are nearly imperceptible. VF 8.0 - a few almost insignificant stress lines may be present FN/VF 7.0 - a small accumulation of light stress lines may be present. 9.0 VERY FINE/NEAR MINT (VF/NM): Back to Top Nearly perfect with outstanding eye appeal. A limited number of bindery/printing defects are allowed. Cover is almost flat with almost imperceptible wear. Inks are bright with slightly diminished reflectivity. An 1/8" bend is allowed if color is not broken. Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted but no creases. Several lightly penciled, stamped or inked arrival dates are acceptable. Very minor foxing. Spine is tight and flat. Staples may show some discoloration. Only the slightest staple tears are allowed. A very minor accumulation of stress lines may be present if they are nearly imperceptible. Paper is off-white to cream and supple. Very minor interior tears may be present. 8.5 VERY FINE+ (VF+): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Very Fine but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 8.0 VERY FINE (VF): Back to Top An excellent copy with outstanding eye appeal. A limited accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Cover is relatively flat with minimal surface wear beginning to show, possibly including some minute wear at corners. Inks are generally bright with moderate to high reflectivity. An unnoticeable 1/4" crease is acceptable if color is not broken. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. Minor foxing. Spine is almost completely flat with a possible minor color break. Staples may show some discoloration. Very slight staple tears and a few almost insignificant stress lines may be present. Paper is cream to tan and supple. Centerfold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present.
  3. Slightly blunted corners, edge wear with color loss, minor to moderate spine stress with multiple color breaking spine ticks/tears, tiny fold/piece missing at top left corner of rear cover, moderate foxing on rear cover. The foxing will prevent this book from being a higher grade...VG/FN 5.0 to FN- 5.5 FN/VF 7.0 - Minor foxing. FN 6.0 - minor staining, soiling, discoloration, and/or foxing. VG/FN 5.0 - minor to moderate staining, discoloration, and/or foxing. VG 4.0 - Some discoloration, fading, foxing, and even minor soiling is allowed. 6.0 FINE (FN): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with no significant creasing or other serious defects. Some accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases. Inks show a significant reduction in reflectivity. Blunted corners are more common, as is minor staining, soiling, discoloration, and/or foxing. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. A minor spine roll is allowed. There can also be a 1/4" spine split or severe color break. Staples may show minor discoloration. Minor staple tears and a few slight stress lines may be present, as well as minor rust migration. Paper is tan to brown and fairly supple with no signs of brittleness. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present. Centerfold may be loose. 5.5 FINE- (FN-): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Fine but with an additional defect or small accumulation of defects that detracts from the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): Back to Top An above-average but well used comic book. An accumulation of bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor to moderate cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases and/or dimples. Inks have moderate to low reflectivity. Blunted corners are increasingly common, as is minor to moderate staining, discoloration, and/or foxing. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. A minor to moderate spine roll is allowed. A spine split of up to 1/2" may be present. Staples may show minor discoloration. Minor staple tears and minor stress lines may also be present, as well as minor rust migration. Paper is tan to brown with no signs of brittleness. Centerfold may be loose. Minor interior tears may also be present.
  4. The tiny holes appear to be from someone adding/removing additional staples or from a push pin. Besides the tiny holes, moderately blunted/round corners with a piece missing at the lower left corner, edge wear with a color breaking scratch along the lower edge, long color breaking crease from top edge through Sub-Mariners face, tear on the outer edge by Sub-Mariner, moderate to severe spine stress with multiple color breaking stress lines, spine and staple tears, staples are discolored/rusty, moderate spine roll, cover/centerfold loose/detached (?), long vertical tear along lower edge of rear cover, moderate dust/sun shadow along spine of rear cover. 2.0 GOOD (GD): Back to Top Shows substantial wear; often considered a "reading copy." Cover shows significant wear and may even be detached. Cover reflectivity is low and in some cases completely absent. Book-length creases and dimples may be present. Rounded corners are more common. Moderate soiling, staining, discoloration and foxing may be present. The largest piece allowed missing from the front or back cover is usually a 1/2" triangle or a 1/4" square, although some Silver Age books such as 1960s Marvels have had the price corner box clipped from the top left front cover and may be considered Good if they would otherwise have graded higher. Tape and other forms of amateur repair are common in Silver Age and older books. Spine roll is likely. May have up to a 2" spine split. Staples may be degraded, replaced or missing. Moderate staple tears and stress lines may be present, as well as rust migration. Paper is brown but not brittle. Centerfold may be loose or detached. Moderate interior tears may be present.
  5. Blunted corners, minor spine stress with multiple color breaking spine ticks, rear cover tear/piece missing at top edge, some discoloration on rear cover. It is the piece missing on the rear cover that is bringing the grade down, without the piece missing this book would be in the FN/VF 7.0 range, with the piece missing...FN 6.0 GD 2.0 - The largest piece allowed missing from the front or back cover is usually a 1/2" triangle or a 1/4" square, GD/VG 3.0 - A triangle from 1/4" to 1/2" can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" to 1/4" square is also acceptable. VG 4.0 - As much as a 1/4" triangle can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" square is also acceptable. 7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal. A small accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor cover wear beginning to show, possibly including minor creases. Corners may be blunted. Inks are generally bright with a moderate reduction in reflectivity. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. Minor foxing. The slightest spine roll may be present, as well as a possible moderate color break. Staples may show some discoloration. Slight staple tears and a small accumulation of light stress lines may be present. Slight rust migration. Paper is cream to tan. Centerfold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present. 6.5 FINE+ (FN+): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Fine but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 6.0 FINE (FN): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with no significant creasing or other serious defects. Paper is tan to brown and fairly supple with no signs of brittleness. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present. Centerfold may be loose.
  6. This is what MCS is offering for the "Atlas Black Knight" Series (1955), issues 1-5. https://www.mycomicshop.com/webuycomics/record?TID=333821
  7. The subscription crease breaks color, that cannot be corrected, color breaking crease at the lower right corner, off center staples, minor spine stress with multiple color breaking spine ticks/stress lines, denting/creasing/crunching along spine and lower edge of the rear cover. IMO, this book would be in the FN 6.0 range without the subscription crease, with the crease that breaks color I agree with the above assessment... VG+ 4.5 to VG/FN 5.0 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): Back to Top An above-average but well used comic book. Cover shows moderate to significant wear, and may be loose but not completely detached. Cover reflectivity is low. Can have moderate creases or dimples. Corners may be blunted. Store stamps, name stamps, arrival dates, initials, etc. have no effect on this grade. Some discoloration, fading, foxing, and even minor soiling is allowed. As much as a 1/4" triangle can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" square is also acceptable. Only minor unobtrusive tape and other amateur repair allowed on otherwise high grade copies. Moderate spine roll may be present and/or a 1" spine split. Staples may be discolored. Minor to moderate staple tears and stress lines may be present, as well as some rust migration. Paper is brown but not brittle. Minor to moderate interior tears may be present. Centerfold may be loose or detached at one staple. GD 2.0 - Book-length creases and dimples may be present. GD/VG 3.0 - Can have a book-length crease and/or dimples. VG 4.0 - Can have moderate creases or dimples. VG/FN 5.0 - with minor to moderate creases and/or dimples. FN 6.0 - Minor cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases FMV, according to Ebay sold auctions for books in lower to mid grade is in the $40.00 - $60.00 range, a CGC VG/FN 5.0 sold for $44.67, what is the cost of a clean and press along with grading, personally, I would place the book in a Mylite with an Acid Free Board and enjoy it, for me, the subscription crease shows some of the history of the book. Having the book graded and slabbed does not offer any more protection than a Mylite/Board, slabs are not airtight, not UV protected and have to be stored in the same conditions as non slabbed books. If you want to display the book, there are UV protected frames just for comics at around $15.00 each, if you prefer a professional grade and a slab for display purposes for your own enjoyment, go for it. UV protected frames
  8. Blunted corners with small piece missing at top left and multiple color breaking creases at the lower right, edge wear with chipping/small pieces missing, color loss and some color breaking creases/scratches at top edge, minor to moderate spine stress with multiple color breaking stress lines, color loss in the black areas above the lower edge/below the wording, minor to moderate spine roll, small piece missing from top edge of rear cover, moderate dust/sun shadow along outer and top edge of rear cover. IMO...FN- 5.5 6.0 FINE (FN): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with no significant creasing or other serious defects. 9. This video pretty much tells you that grading a book with staining/foxing/discoloration is very subjective (lots of Grey areas) and is handled on a book by book basis, it tells me that grading a book with any of these defects could change day to day, grader to grader, however, Foxing is not removable.
  10. As already stated in your other thread, you need a complete list of what books you have before you can attempt to sell. My advice would be to compile a list of titles and issue #'s and post it here, then we can tell you if any have any books of real value, once that is determined then we can help you with grading and value of those books. Once you have an idea of value and grade you can then list the books for sale, either on this site, Facebook Comic Book Buy/Sell/Trade groups (I belong to 6 comic book groups, only two of these allow sales), Facebook Marketplace (which I usually recommend as local pickup only and meet at a public place such as the Police Station),etc. Here is an example of a compiled list of just titles/numbers for my Son's books, something like this would be a good start.
  11. Blunted corners with color breaking creases at the lower right corner/edge and top right corner, small/vertical color breaking scratch/tear at top edge, minor spine wear with a few color breaking spine ticks and color loss along spine, moderate staple tears, staples are discolored, minor spine roll, crease along spine of rear cover, multiple small tears/chipping along all edges of the rear cover, moderate staining/foxing/discoloration/soiling on rear cover. moderate color loss from rear cover center/outer edge through the ad. Due to the rear cover edge tears and staining, IMO...VG/FN 5.0 GD 2.0 - Moderate soiling, staining, discoloration and foxing may be present. GD/VG 3.0 - Discoloration, fading, foxing, and even minor to moderate soiling is allowed. VG 4.0 - Some discoloration, fading, foxing, and even minor soiling is allowed. VG/FN 5.0 - minor to moderate staining, discoloration, and/or foxing. FN 6.0 - minor staining, soiling, discoloration, and/or foxing. 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): Back to Top An above-average but well used comic book. 12. Lower right corner has a fold, lower left corner is blunted with a tiny piece missing and color loss, lower edge wear with color loss, minor spine stress with a few, small color breaking spine ticks, small tear on top edge of rear cover by the "V". IMO...FN+ 6.5 7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal. A small accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor cover wear beginning to show, possibly including minor creases. Corners may be blunted. 13. 1.0 FAIR (FR): Back to Top Shows heavy wear. Some collectors consider this the lowest collectible grade because comic books in lesser condition are usually incomplete and/or brittle. Cover may be detached, and inks have lost all reflectivity. Creases, tears and/or folds are prevalent. Corners are commonly rounded or absent. Soiling and staining is present. Books in this condition generally have all pages and most of the covers, although there may be up to 1/4 of the front cover missing or no back cover, but not both. Tape and other forms of amateur repair are more common. Spine roll is more common; spine split can extend up to 2/3 the length of the book. Staples may be missing or show rust and discoloration. An accumulation of staple tears and stress lines may be present, as well as rust migration. Paper is brown and may show brittleness around the edges but not in the central portion of the pages. Acidic odor may be present. Accumulation of interior tears. Chunks may be missing. The centerfold may be missing if readability is generally preserved. Coupons may be cut.
  14. Nice Book!!! I love seeing obscure cartoon books from the Golden Age not related to super heroes, I grew up watching Mighty Mouse in the early/mid 60's. Issue 3 of 4, published quarterly with issue 3 being published in March 1947 by Marvel/Timely, MCS (not a consignment book) is selling a copy of issue 2 in GD 2.0 for $145.00. Rounded corners with color breaking creases and small pieces missing, small tears/color loss along edges, long tear along "Mighty's left leg, writing on cover in three spots that protrudes to the inside cover, moderate spine stress with color breaking stress lines and spine tears, moderate to severe spine roll, moderate staining/discoloration and color loss on front cover, long crease through the coupon on rear cover, moderate staining/discoloration of rear cover. IMO...GD 2.0 to GD+ 2.5 3.0 GOOD/VERY GOOD (GD/VG): Back to Top A used comic book showing some substantial wear. Cover shows significant wear, and may be loose or even detached at one staple. Cover reflectivity is very low. Can have a book-length crease and/or dimples. Corners may be blunted or even rounded. Discoloration, fading, foxing, and even minor to moderate soiling is allowed. A triangle from 1/4" to 1/2" can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" to 1/4" square is also acceptable. Tape and other amateur repair may be present. Moderate spine roll likely. May have a spine split of anywhere from 1" to 1-1/2". Staples may be rusted or replaced. Minor to moderate staple tears and moderate stress lines may be present, as well as some rust migration. Paper is brown but not brittle. Centerfold may be loose or detached at one staple. Minor to moderate interior tears may be present. 2.5 GOOD+ (GD+): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Good but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 2.0 GOOD (GD): Back to Top Shows substantial wear; often considered a "reading copy." 15. Although the Library Of Congress states approx. 35% RH is recommended, that is not always possible for normal collectors who keep their books in their home, most homes have the temp set anywhere from 68-72 degrees (+/- year round) with humidity being whatever is in the air that day.(Depends where you live and what type of heat you use, Natural Gas is very dry), it is not feasible for most collectors to have a complete environmentally controlled area to store their books. I do not use a dehumidifier so my books, although stored properly in Mylites/Acid Free Boards away from all UV, heat sources (no temperature extremes), moisture, etc., humidity is not really something I can control, sometimes the windows are open, sometimes the heat is on, sometimes the A/C is on, my books go through a constant change in temps/humidity depending on the season and ambient temps. Right now at 10:45 AM in New Jersey, my windows are open, temp outside is 64 degrees and the RH is 55%, it is going to rain this weekend, windows will be closed, no heat/AC on and RH will be higher. Library Of Congress - Store comic books in a clean storage area where temperature and relative humidity (RH) are moderate and stable: 68°F or less, and between 30 and 40% RH. Moisture and temperature speed decay. Low humidity can crack, peel, or curl pages. Avoid attics and basements and provide good air circulation.
  16. Blunted corners, edge wear with some color loss, bug chew at the top edge and a color breaking vertical crease by the outer edge, 1/4" - 1/2" upper spine split, moderate spine stress with multiple color breaking spine ticks/stress lines, slight spine roll, spine tear on rear cover about halfway down, moderate staining/discoloration of rear cover. Due to the bug chew and rear cover discoloration, IMO...VG+ 4.5 to VG/FN 5.0 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): Back to Top An above-average but well used comic book. 20. The scratches, when magnified, look much worse than they probably are, since this is a dark cover with white showing were the scratches are, I would assume you will be in the VF/VM 9.0 to NM- 9.2.

I feel that the color rub is minor, not sure how CGC views slight color rub. https://bleedingcool.com/comics/cgc-insider-12-ink-transfer-color-rub/ 9.4 NEAR MINT (NM): Back to Top Nearly perfect with only minor imperfections that keep it from the next higher grade. Subtle bindery/printing defects are allowed. Bindery tears must be less than 1/16" on Silver Age and later books, although on Golden Age books bindery tears of up to 1/4" have been noted. Cover is flat with no surface wear. Inks are bright with high reflectivity and a minimum of fading. Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted. A 1/16" bend is permitted with no color break. Small, inconspicuous, lightly penciled, stamped or inked arrival dates are acceptable as long as they are in an unobtrusive location. Slight foxing. 22. Welcome To The Boards!!! Clear pics please, these are very blurry, also we need to see clear, full pics of the book (front cover, rear cover, centerfold) in order to tell you if that is a Bindery defect and how much, if any, it will affect the grade. I, personally would not concern myself with the staple issue on this book since your particular book #1E had a print run of 1,954,100, total print run for the #1's was 8,186,500, only 172,000 were newsstand editions, the rest were all direct sales, these books are readily available for < $5.00. There is no mention of "centered staples" until you get to NM 9.4 which reads..."Staples are generally centered;" Technically this should be posted in the "https://boards.cgccomics.com/forum/42-hey-buddy-can-you-spare-a-grade/" section. I also found this old thread... As far as Bindery Defects go... NM 9.4 - Subtle bindery/printing defects are allowed. VF 8.0 to NM- 9.2 - A limited number of minor bindery/printing defects are allowed. FN/VF 7.0 - A small accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed.
  23. Welcome To The Boards!!! Depends what you are looking for price wise, what you have and how much time you are willing to put in. In order to sell properly the book(s) needs to be graded and a FMV determined before attempting to sell. As far as grading, you can guess/estimate for an eBay posting which a lot of sellers do as long as you post good/clear pics of the entire book(s). You cannot sell in Facebook Comic Book Sales groups without assigning a grade, the mods will not allow the listing but you can sell anyway you like in the Marketplace, if you are looking to sell the entire lot to a dealer, there is a dealer in Central/North Jersey who buys comics, I just recently spoke with him about my Son's books, naturally you would not get full FMV from a dealer and you will need a complete list of what you have or drive the books to them, either way, you should know what you have before doing any of this. https://www.njcomicstop.com/about FMV can be obtained using "Ebay Sold Auctions" for books in the same grade, again you need to have an estimate of grade, use the pictures to see if the books look like yours. I would suggest you read through the grading guides, get an understanding, grade a couple of books then post them with good/clear pics in the "https://boards.cgccomics.com/forum/42-hey-buddy-can-you-spare-a-grade/" section and see what other knowledgeable folks see the grade as and if they agree with your assessment, Do Not tell us what you thought the grade may be until after folks have replied so we go in with no pre-conceived notions. Which ever way you decide to go, Good Luck!!! https://comics.ha.com/tutorial/comics-grading.s?show=comicdefinitions https://gemstonepub.com/price-guides/grading-guides/ https://www.cgccomics.com/news/article/10586/cgc-guide-grading-comics-nelson/
