  1. A book is graded on it's entirety, however, just looking at corners... NM/MT 9.8 - Corners are cut square and sharp. NM+ 9.6 - One corner may be almost imperceptibly blunted, but still almost sharp and cut square. NM 9.4 - Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted. NM- 9.2 - Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted. VF/NM 9.0 - Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted but no creases. VF 8.0 - Cover is relatively flat with minimal surface wear beginning to show, possibly including some minute wear at corners. FN/VF 7.0 - Corners may be blunted. FN 6.0 - Blunted corners are more common.
  2. You cannot have a piece missing from the cover or binder holes in a VF 8.0 unless as already stated that book would have been a NM+ 9.6 or NM/MT 9.8 to begin with. As far as just pieces missing from the cover(s), there is not even a mention of pieces missing until you get to VG 4.0. VG 4.0 - As much as a 1/4" triangle can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" square is also acceptable. GD/VG 3.0 - A triangle from 1/4" to 1/2" can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" to 1/4" square is also acceptable. GD 2.0 - The largest piece allowed missing from the front or back cover is usually a 1/2" triangle or a 1/4" square, FR/GD 1.5 - Up to 1/10 of the back cover may be missing. FR 1.0 - there may be up to 1/4 of the front cover missing or no back cover, but not both. 8.0 VERY FINE (VF): Back to Top An excellent copy with outstanding eye appeal. A limited accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Cover is relatively flat with minimal surface wear beginning to show, possibly including some minute wear at corners. Inks are generally bright with moderate to high reflectivity. An unnoticeable 1/4" crease is acceptable if color is not broken. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. Minor foxing. Spine is almost completely flat with a possible minor color break. Staples may show some discoloration. Very slight staple tears and a few almost insignificant stress lines may be present. Paper is cream to tan and supple. Centerfold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present. From The Overstreet Grading Guide, as you can see under "missing pieces" it states, "none allowed"
  3. Blunted corners with color loss and small color breaking creases on left side corners, edge wear with color loss, minor to moderate spine stress with moderate color breaking stress lines, three moderate color breaking scratches/creases, 1 on the top half along outer edge and 2 on the lower half of cover, small stains on the lower edge of rear cover. If what you are calling "veins" are "printer creases" they should not affect the grade, however, do not have them pressed out of you will be left with a section with no color. IMO, this book grades at a FN 6.0 to FN+ 6.5 7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal. A small accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor cover wear beginning to show, possibly including minor creases. Corners may be blunted. Inks are generally bright with a moderate reduction in reflectivity. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. Minor foxing. The slightest spine roll may be present, as well as a possible moderate color break. Staples may show some discoloration. Slight staple tears and a small accumulation of light stress lines may be present. Slight rust migration. Paper is cream to tan. Centerfold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present. 6.5 FINE+ (FN+): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Fine but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 6.0 FINE (FN): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with no significant creasing or other serious defects. Some accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases. Inks show a significant reduction in reflectivity. Blunted corners are more common, as is minor staining, soiling, discoloration, and/or foxing. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. A minor spine roll is allowed. There can also be a 1/4" spine split or severe color break. Staples may show minor discoloration. Minor staple tears and a few slight stress lines may be present, as well as minor rust migration. Paper is tan to brown and fairly supple with no signs of brittleness. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present. Centerfold may be loose.
  4. Just and FYI... remember, a collectible is only worth what a collector is willing to pay for it, if you have the only issue of a book printed and nobody wants it it is basically worthless $ wise, if you have 2 million copies of a book and 4 million people want it, then the $ value increases, supply and Demand. I have no idea about the interest in those books, however, basically if there is no interest in those books their value is low. You will not know until they are listed for sale. Good Luck!!!
  5. I do not clean my books, if it is removing color do not use it.
  6. Amazing Spider-Man 1 and Strange Tales 106, Release Date, December 10, 1962, Cover Date, March, 1963 Which is the 1st crossover? Just to add more fuel to the fire, The F.F. appeared in the 1st story in ST 106 but did not appear in ASM 1 until the 2nd story, the entire team is shown on the cover of both, so...
  7. I originally started collecting in/from 65-69, started recollecting in 79 and have not added any books of significance since about 2010. These runs are as complete as they will ever get. 8. Missing 5 pages the book will get a PR 0.5 and marked as incomplete, a married cover or pages will get a Green Qualified Label or a Conserved Label meaning the book will be graded as if it was an original copy but the married cover/pages will be noted on the label. The cover itself has slight edge wear with slight color loss, rusted lower staple with rust migration and some discoloration of the rear cover, without the missing pages but with the rusted staple/rust migration the book would probably be in the FN/VF 7.0 Range Having the staple(s) cleaned or replaced will result in a Conserved Label should the book meet all of the requirements/qualifications. https://www.cgccomics.com/grading/grading-scale/?scale=restoration FN/VF 7.0 - Slight rust migration. FN 6.0 - minor rust migration. VG/FN 5.0 - minor rust migration. VG 4.0 - some rust migration. GD/VG 3.0 - some rust migration. GD 2.0 - rust migration. "CGC uses the term “Married Cover” to describe a comic that has a cover attached to it that originally came from another comic. CGC will give a comic with a “Married Cover” or “Married Pages” a green label indicating it's a qualified grade." From MCS, PR 0.5...Comic books in PR condition may be missing up to 4 pages (two spreads) of story or ad pages, or have a completely split spine, or display severe damage that affects the readability of the book.

  10. You pretty much named all of the defects I see other than what appears to be a recessed lower staple, if that is the case, is the cover loose at that area? Giving the benefit of doubt that the cover is not loose, IMO you are in the VF+ 8.5 range. 9.0 VERY FINE/NEAR MINT (VF/NM): Back to Top Nearly perfect with outstanding eye appeal. A limited number of bindery/printing defects are allowed. Cover is almost flat with almost imperceptible wear. Inks are bright with slightly diminished reflectivity. An 1/8" bend is allowed if color is not broken. Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted but no creases. Several lightly penciled, stamped or inked arrival dates are acceptable. Very minor foxing. Spine is tight and flat. Staples may show some discoloration. Only the slightest staple tears are allowed. A very minor accumulation of stress lines may be present if they are nearly imperceptible. Paper is off-white to cream and supple. Very minor interior tears may be present. 8.5 VERY FINE+ (VF+): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Very Fine but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 8.0 VERY FINE (VF): Back to Top An excellent copy with outstanding eye appeal. 11. Very hard to see the actual overall condition of the book with the poor camera angles and glare. The only things I can see are blunted corners and a moderate spine roll, given that I cannot really see the edges/spine/staples/corners clearly this is all a guess, if the spine roll can be removed and there are no other obvious defects that are not visible in the pics I would say you are in the VF 8.0 to VF/NM 9.0 range, if the spine roll remains then you are probably in the FN/VF 7.0 range or lower.
  12. Congrats and Enjoy!!! Collecting for me was always about reliving my youth in the 60's and completing runs (OCD is Bi**h) so I can relate to the ecstatic feelings you must have right now, ride that wave of happiness and Enjoy Those Books!!!
  13. Blunted corners with some color loss, slight edge wear with small pieces missing along top edge, color rub in the "N" and "S" of Avengers, minor spine roll, minor spine stress with multiple color breaking stress lines, denting along top edge of rear cover, wrinkling/denting along spine and lower right corner of rear cover, minor staining/discoloration on rear cover along spine and outer edge. IMO...FN+ 6.5 7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal. 14. Bags and boards protect the book from being torn, folded, curled, etc., There are two kinds of bags Polypropylene (plastic) and Mylites (Mylar) Poly bags break down over time and emit gases and acids as they break down that could damage a book over time, it is recommended to replace poly bags every 5 years, Mylar on the other hand is an archival safe material used by Museums, The Library of Congress, The Smithsonian and does not contain any acids, does not diffuse gases or breakdown over time, unless you tear it Mylar is good for a lifetime. Poly and Mylar (Mylites) come in different sizes, Gold/Silver/Modern and Mylites come in different thicknesses, 1 Mil, 2 Mil, 4 Mil Top Loaders. Golden Age: 7 3/4 x 10 1/2 inches (19.7 x 26.7 cm). ... Silver Age: 7 1/8 x 10 1/2 inches (18.1 x 26.7 cm). ... Regular: 7 1/4 x 10 1/2 inches (18.4 x 26.7 cm). ... Current: 6 7/8 x 10 1/2 inches (17.5 x 26.7 cm). Regardless of which bags you use, you want to avoid tape to close the flaps, this will prevent accidental tape pulls when removing the book from the bag. Use large yard sale blank price stickers to close the flap, you can get 300 from Walmart for $2.00. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Avery-Color-Coding-Labels-Assorted-Neon-Colors-Removable-Handwrite-Only-315-Labels-3-4-Round/641238878?wl13=2038&selectedSellerId=0&nis=6 If you are using poly you can get self sealing bags. Backing boards are used to provide rigidity to the book when it is being stored, they come in "Full Back" and "Half Back", both are acid free, the fullbacks are thicker than the halfbacks, the fullback is the best option for expensive books. All bagged books should have a backing board. When placing your books in a comic storage box you Do Not want to squeeze as many books as possible into the box, when full you should have about 1" of leeway, making the books too tight against one another will cause damage. If the box is only 1/2 to 3/4 full you may want to place a towel (or other soft item) into the box to prevent the books from falling on each other when the box is moved) Now that your books are all bagged, boarded and boxed, storage conditions have to be right for the books to maintain their present condition as long as possible. Comic books start to degrade/breakdown as soon as they are printed, the inks, the paper start breaking down and the comic book is basically killing itself, printing techniques, inks and the paper used has gotten better over time. You can never stop the degrading from happening (ashes to ashes, dust to dust), you can only slow it down using proper storage techniques, the more a book has to constantly adjust to its environment (temp and humidity changes) the quicker the degrading process becomes so you want a stable environment. Books should stored in a controlled environment with temps in the 60- 75 degree range and about 40-50% humidity (no unfinished basements/garages/attics), books should not be stored near sources of water/moisture, sources of heat (or any air vents) and kept away from all UV light (The Sun, Incandescent and Flouresant Lighting, LED bulbs do not give off heat or UV). If you have any other questions, post them up, most importantly, Enjoy Those Books!!!
  15. Career Girls Issue 31 is what you have. Looking at other issues of Career Girls that have sold on Ebay there are two (issue 41 and 49) that sold in the $5.00 range, Ebay auctions are as close to FMV as you will get since this is what folks are actually paying. My Sister had 30 Romance Books ranging from the 50's through the 70's in various conditions and various publishers and I sold the entire lot for $180.00 ($6.00 per book). A copy of issue 32 in GD+ 2.5 sold for $35.00 from an MCS consignment, this book has Elvis, Johnny Rivers and Herman's Hermits on the cover. The books currently listed on Ebay are all BIN so the seller can ask whatever he/she wants, the lower grade copies are in the $5.00 - $30.00 range. There is one auction going on right now for issue 44 which appears to be in the VG 4.0 range, the book is listed with a starting price of $7.00, watch the auction and see where it goes. https://www.ebay.com/itm/115979820709?hash=item1b00ef9ea5%3Ag%3AUf0AAOSw2DtlVtII&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA8MLOrGhU%2FBaIOdm%2BdAdaHhD0UiKknpyePJuWN%2BF%2Bj%2Bsv%2FJB6uynQJiCWCMlKN91kxvvha%2BSt7jysWFXIAWZWnFjUBSvEkqQF9MhS9a7tBWaoq5EWZtxDbJuw93I56hzhe8wii2v0KW7BAwHm09V%2FhUy4cO9d1gUEFvLCcd46zdXpxxeAqJd3IudATJeuRusnmcXSdmt0jGiCHCUovaCaBd1lGZ%2BzmnNv38ownLW0mR5iqO%2BA6DtNOjPxvFvaDyzzPYOq9vyo0rl95GVm%2F%2F4ZnXbLfwhuG59K6vx7n2PIjaMal8Yhyq4IFrsuwkWUSBqAAw%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR6ywguj7Yg&LH_Auction=1
  16. Bought my copy at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore back in the early 90's, still have it, however, I no longer own a VCR.
  17. Blunted corners, edge wear with some color loss and a small color breaking crease at the top edge, minor spine stress with multiple color breaking spine ticks, top staple is discolored, outer edge on front cover appears to be curled, outer and lower edge of rear cover appears to be dented/wrinkled, minor to moderate discoloration/staining of rear cover. 6.0 FINE (FN): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with no significant creasing or other serious defects. GD/VG 3.0 - Discoloration, fading, foxing, and even minor to moderate soiling is allowed. VG 4.0 - Some discoloration, fading, foxing, and even minor soiling is allowed. VG/FN 5.0 - Minor to moderate staining, discoloration, and/or foxing. FN 6.0 - Minor staining, soiling, discoloration, and/or foxing. FN/VF 7.0 - Minor foxing. VF 8.0 - Minor foxing.
  18. Left corners blunted with color loss at top left corner, edge wear with denting/missing piece at top edge, minor spine stress with a few color breaking spine ticks and slight staple tears, as pointed out by the OP, foxing and/or discoloration. (I cannot really see it, pics are not clear enough and my eyes are too old) 8.0 VERY FINE (VF): Back to Top An excellent copy with outstanding eye appeal. Paper is cream to tan and supple. Centerfold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present.
  19. What books are you trying to fit in the standard short box, for proper storage you should use the proper sized Mylite for the book, too loose and the book will move around, too tight and it will bend the book. Golden Age: 7 3/4 x 10 1/2 inches (19.7 x 26.7 cm). This size accommodates Golden Age comics from 1943 up to Silver Age comics published in 1960. Silver Age: 7 1/8 x 10 1/2 inches (18.1 x 26.7 cm). This size accommodates some late Golden Age comics published in 1951 as well as Silver Age comics published as late as 1965, including annuals and 80-page giants published during that period. Regular: 7 1/4 x 10 1/2 inches (18.4 x 26.7 cm). This size accommodates comics published after 1965, including the late Silver Age and Bronze Age comics of the 1970s to mid-1980s. Current: 6 7/8 x 10 1/2 inches (17.5 x 26.7 cm). This size accommodates comics published since 1990. As there is some overlap in years in the above list, be sure to measure your comics horizontally and vertically before purchasing bags and boards for them. Golden Age Top Loaders will not properly fit in a standard short box. https://collectiblesupply.com/2-bcw-comic-care-magazine-golden-age-comic-book-storage-boxes/ https://www.bcwsupplies.com/blog/2017/02/19/comic-bags-boards-size/
  20. Contrary to what you are saying, the emblem appears to have been cut out. The book shown is the "Die Cut Cover Collectors Edition" there were also direct and newsstand editions with a different cover and a signed edition of the book shown limited to 10,000 copies. There are no other variants of this book. FMV for this book is about $2.00. https://www.mycomicshop.com/search?q=Superman+78
  21. Blunted corners with color breaking creases, edge wear with color loss and two vertical color breaking creases along outer edge, two color breaking scratches along lower edge, minor to moderate spine stress with color breaking spine ticks and staple tears, crease/tear at lower right corner of rear cover, denting along top edge of rear cover, wrinkling along outer edge of rear cover, slight discoloration along the outer edge and spine of rear cover. IMO, the color breaking creases and tear prevent this book from being a higher grade. 22. Slightly blunted corners, minor to moderate spine roll, minor spine stress with minor staple tears, staples slightly discolored, slight discoloration along edges of rear cover. IMO, without the spine roll this book would probably be in the VF+ 8.5 to VF/NM 9.0 range, with the spine roll I cannot assign a grade higher than FN+ 6.5 to FN/VF 7.0, is that how CGC will see it? 7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal. Is there are spine split? Is the cover loose? With or without those two defects listed above (Yes, it is a Golden Age Book and may get more lenient grading due to this) with the piece missing (which is not allowed until VG 4.0) I cannot assign a grade higher than...FN- 5.5 6.0 FINE (FN): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with no significant creasing or other serious defects.
