  1. Color breaking creases on lower, outer edge, moderate lower right corner wear w/multiple color breaking creases, slightly discolored staples, tear/crease on rear cover outer edge, small tear at lower right corner of rear cover, waviness and edge wear at lower rear cover edge, foxing dust/sun shadow on rear cover. If that is a tear on the rear cover rather than a crease or the creases/tears on the outer edge affect the interior pages, the grade I am assigning will be lower. 6.0 FINE (FN): Back to TopAn above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with no significant creasing or other serious defects. Some accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases. Inks show a significant reduction in reflectivity. Blunted corners are more common, as is minor staining, soiling, discoloration, and/or foxing. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. A minor spine roll is allowed. There can also be a 1/4" spine split or severe color break. Staples may show minor discoloration. Minor staple tears and a few slight stress lines may be present, as well as minor rust migration. Paper is tan to brown and fairly supple with no signs of brittleness. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present. Centerfold may be loose.
  2. I cannot answer your question on a clean and press since I have never used these services. Rounded corners, minor spine roll, a couple of color breaking spine ticks, foxing at spine front and rear covers. 7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF): Back to TopAn above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal. A small accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor cover wear beginning to show, possibly including minor creases. Corners may be blunted. Inks are generally bright with a moderate reduction in reflectivity. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. Minor foxing. The slightest spine roll may be present, as well as a possible moderate color break. Staples may show some discoloration. Slight staple tears and a small accumulation of light stress lines may be present. Slight rust migration. Paper is cream to tan. Centerfold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present.
  3. There is always eBay or Facebook Buy/Sell/Trade groups, some sellers have auctions rather than BIN, you can ask the group for recommendations about the seller(s) from other group members. The advantages, no fees, you know the price with shipping up front.

  5. I have heard stories of folks taking the "Tatooz" from F.F. 252 and use them to replace the missing Tatooz in ASM 238, is this the case with this particular book? Here is a pic of my F.F. 252 with the insert removed, as you can see, there is a tear at the staple and the cover is detached from the top staple.
  6. I am so Sorry for your loss, I will keep you in my Thoughts and Prayers. “A mother’s love is eternal. Hold on to that infinite love and let it be your guiding light.”
  7. This one is tricky, the front cover appears to be in the VG 4.0/VG+ 4.5 range, while the back cover with the tear and missing piece is in the FR/GD 1.5 range. The back cover significantly affects the grade of this book, grading the book in its entirety, IMO... GD- 1.8 FR/GD 1.5 - Up to 1/10 of the back cover may be missing. GD 2.0 - The largest piece allowed missing from the front or back cover is usually a 1/2" triangle or a 1/4" square, GD/VG 3.0 - A triangle from 1/4" to 1/2" can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" to 1/4" square is also acceptable. VG 4.0 - As much as a 1/4" triangle can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" square is also acceptable
  8. Edge/corner wear with multiple color breaking creases on the left side corners, long/diagonal color breaking crease at bottom, moderate spine stress w/color breaking spine ticks/creasing, staples discolored (going by pic of rear cover), wrinkling/staining on rear cover. IMO, this book presents better than a VG 4.0, however, with the multiple color breaking creases does it make VG/FN 5.0? VG+ 4.5 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): Back to Top An above-average but well used comic book. An accumulation of bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor to moderate cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases and/or dimples. Inks have moderate to low reflectivity. Blunted corners are increasingly common, as is minor to moderate staining, discoloration, and/or foxing. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. A minor to moderate spine roll is allowed. A spine split of up to 1/2" may be present. Staples may show minor discoloration. Minor staple tears and minor stress lines may also be present, as well as minor rust migration. Paper is tan to brown with no signs of brittleness. Centerfold may be loose. Minor interior tears may also be present. 4.5 VERY GOOD+ (VG): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Very Good but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 4.0 VERY GOOD (VG): Back to TopThe average used comic book. Cover shows moderate to significant wear, and may be loose but not completely detached. Cover reflectivity is low. Can have moderate creases or dimples. Corners may be blunted. Store stamps, name stamps, arrival dates, initials, etc. have no effect on this grade. Some discoloration, fading, foxing, and even minor soiling is allowed. As much as a 1/4" triangle can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" square is also acceptable. Only minor unobtrusive tape and other amateur repair allowed on otherwise high grade copies. Moderate spine roll may be present and/or a 1" spine split. Staples may be discolored. Minor to moderate staple tears and stress lines may be present, as well as some rust migration. Paper is brown but not brittle. Minor to moderate interior tears may be present. Centerfold may be loose or detached at one staple.

  10. VF- 7.5 to VF 8.0 8.0 VERY FINE (VF): Back to Top An excellent copy with outstanding eye appeal. A limited accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Cover is relatively flat with minimal surface wear beginning to show, possibly including some minute wear at corners. Inks are generally bright with moderate to high reflectivity. An unnoticeable 1/4" crease is acceptable if color is not broken. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. Minor foxing. Spine is almost completely flat with a possible minor color break. Staples may show some discoloration. Very slight staple tears and a few almost insignificant stress lines may be present. Paper is cream to tan and supple. Centerfold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present. 7.5 VERY FINE- (VF-): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Very Fine but with an additional defect or small accumulation of defects that detracts from the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal. 12. Slight denting on top edge, rounded corners, vertical/color breaking creases by spine, what appears to be two small tears on the spine, slight discoloration of white/front cover, moderate foxing on rear cover. What I cannot see is the staples, which may be rusty by the rear cover photo, I also cannot get a good look at the spine. From what I can see... 13. Since I was given the OK to post covers of Non-Marvel Silver Age books (with a couple of pre-hero Marvel added)
  14. Welcome To The Boards!!! That appears to be a Gold, 2nd print, newsstand edition which supposedly had a low print run. To get a proper estimate of grade the pics should be made with the book out of the bag with clear pics of the front/rear cover, staples/spine, inside front and rear covers and centerfold.
  15. Minor edge wear, blunted/rounded corners, 5-6 color breaking creases (3 are fairly long), what appears to be a 1/2" tear on the lower edge, slightly rolled/curled cover by spine, slight spine roll, minor spine stress w/color breaking spine ticks, small tear at lower edge of rear cover, minor staining on rear cover. Edge wear with some color breaking creases, blunted/rounded corners, vertical color breaking creasing by the spine, minor to moderate spine stress with a couple of color breaking spine ticks, a (1/4") spine split at lower spine, moderate staining/wrinkling by spine and outer edge of rear cover. 18. Detached centerfold, slight edge wear with slight color loss, slightly blunted/rounded corners, rusty staples, foxing/discoloration by the spine, slightly mistrimmed top edge, slight spine roll/fanned pages, minor spine stress with 2-3 small color breaking spine ticks, slight staining on rear cover. I do not know how CGC usually views this, there is no creasing/bends/tears, spine stress or any major issues other than the detached centerfold and staples, without the detached centerfold I would have assigned a grade of FN+ 6.5 (+/-), with the detached centerfold and rusted lower staple I do not see this book grading higher than a VG 4.0/VG+ 4.5
  19. The pics I posted almost 5 years ago are no longer there so I would like to repost, however, the title of the thread is... "Post your Marvel Silver Age #1 issues" I am seeing Gold Key, Charlton, DC in the thread, before I repost I want to be sure if books other than Silver Age Marvel are allowed.
  20. The edges and corners are showing slight wear with some color loss, bindery tear (?) is more than 1/16", I see two small spine ticks that barely break color, there appears to be some discoloration/sun shadow in the price box and outer edge of rear cover. 9.2 NEAR MINT- (NM-): Back to TopNearly perfect with only a minor additional defect or defects that keep it from Near Mint. A limited number of minor bindery/printing defects are allowed. Cover is flat with no surface wear. Inks are bright with only the slightest dimming of reflectivity. Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted. A 1/16-1/8" bend is permitted with no color break. Small, inconspicuous, lightly penciled, stamped or inked arrival dates are acceptable as long as they are in an unobtrusive location. Slight foxing. Spine is tight and flat. Staples may show some discoloration. Almost no stress lines. Paper is off-white to cream, supple and fresh. Slight interior tears are allowed.
  21. Slight edge/corner wear with some color loss, stacking curl/fold by spine, wavy pages/cover from what appears to be water/humidity damage, cover not completely centered, staining on interior pages. Due to the "wavy pages", IMO... 8.5 VERY FINE+ (VF+): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Very Fine but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 8.0 VERY FINE (VF): Back to Top An excellent copy with outstanding eye appeal.
