  1. Very slight corner/edge wear, very slight color rub on front cover, a few almost unnoticeable spine ticks, however, there seems to be one that breaks color (as seen in your second photo), lower staple not centered, slight waviness/crease on front cover under the price box. 9.0 VERY FINE/NEAR MINT (VF/NM): Back to TopNearly perfect with outstanding eye appeal. A limited number of bindery/printing defects are allowed. Cover is almost flat with almost imperceptible wear. Inks are bright with slightly diminished reflectivity. An 1/8" bend is allowed if color is not broken. Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted but no creases. Several lightly penciled, stamped or inked arrival dates are acceptable. Very minor foxing. Spine is tight and flat. Staples may show some discoloration. Only the slightest staple tears are allowed. A very minor accumulation of stress lines may be present if they are nearly imperceptible. Paper is off-white to cream and supple. Very minor interior tears may be present.
  2. I cannot answer your questions on pressing since I do not subscribe to this service. Corner/edge wear w/color rub, moderate to severe color rub on front and rear cover, IMO the amount of color rub seriously detracts from the overall appearance of the book, even though there are not any serious defects (spine stress, creases, dings/dented corners, tears, etc.) I cannot grade this book any higher than... 7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF): Back to TopAn above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal. A small accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor cover wear beginning to show, possibly including minor creases. Corners may be blunted. Inks are generally bright with a moderate reduction in reflectivity. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. Minor foxing. The slightest spine roll may be present, as well as a possible moderate color break. Staples may show some discoloration. Slight staple tears and a small accumulation of light stress lines may be present. Slight rust migration. Paper is cream to tan. Centerfold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present.
  3. Not knowing for sure I would have to grade the color breaking scratches as a defect, a few spine ticks that barely break color, slightly blunted corners, corner ding/creases at lower right corner of rear cover. Overall the book is very nice, colors are bright, book lies flat, no staining/foxing, however, the scratches IMO lower the grade by a good amount, as the book sits right now, IMO... 7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF): Back to TopAn above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal. 4. Moderate creasing/wear w/color breaks on edges/corners/top 1/2 of cover, moderate spine stress w/color breaks, lower staple off center, slight spine roll, small interior tears at lower page margin. The pages and rear cover are white, which is very good. IMO, the amount spine stress/color breaks prevent this book from being a higher grade, IMO VG+ 4.5 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): Back to Top An above-average but well used comic book. An accumulation of bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor to moderate cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases and/or dimples. Inks have moderate to low reflectivity. Blunted corners are increasingly common, as is minor to moderate staining, discoloration, and/or foxing. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. A minor to moderate spine roll is allowed. A spine split of up to 1/2" may be present. Staples may show minor discoloration. Minor staple tears and minor stress lines may also be present, as well as minor rust migration. Paper is tan to brown with no signs of brittleness. Centerfold may be loose. Minor interior tears may also be present. 4.5 VERY GOOD+ (VG): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Very Good but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 4.0 VERY GOOD (VG): Back to Top The average used comic book. Cover shows moderate to significant wear, and may be loose but not completely detached. Cover reflectivity is low. Can have moderate creases or dimples. Corners may be blunted. Store stamps, name stamps, arrival dates, initials, etc. have no effect on this grade. Some discoloration, fading, foxing, and even minor soiling is allowed. As much as a 1/4" triangle can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" square is also acceptable. Only minor unobtrusive tape and other amateur repair allowed on otherwise high grade copies. Moderate spine roll may be present and/or a 1" spine split. Staples may be discolored. Minor to moderate staple tears and stress lines may be present, as well as some rust migration. Paper is brown but not brittle. Minor to moderate interior tears may be present. Centerfold may be loose or detached at one staple. 5. This book was purchased for $50.00 about 20 years ago, tape is the only thing holding the cover of this book together.
  6. A few non-color breaking spine ticks, slightly blunted lower left corner, blunted corner w/1/8" crease w/color break at lower left corner of rear cover, slight color rub by spine on rear cover. 8. I agree with the above statement, I have numerous books in the PR 0.5 - FR 1.0 range that I have used tape on to prevent them from falling apart more than they already are when handled, tape to keep small pieces attached, prevent a tear from getting worse, keeping a spine split from getting worse, etc., the tape will not affect the grade on books like this or any book graded up to GD/VG 3.0 unless tape is the only major defect. Yes, tape will eventually/possibly create more damage in the very long term (Acids) but how much damage would occur without the tapes reinforcement? FR/GD 1.5 - Tape and other forms of amateur repair are increasingly common in Silver Age and older books. GD 2.0 - Tape and other forms of amateur repair are common in Silver Age and older books. GD/VG 3.0 - Tape and other amateur repair may be present.
  9. Blunted corners, moderate spine stress w/numerous color breaking spine ticks, discolored staples, slight spine roll, severe ding/bend at lower right corner of rear cover. I cannot see the centerfold or inside of the covers... IMO... 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): Back to Top An above-average but well used comic book. An accumulation of bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor to moderate cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases and/or dimples. Inks have moderate to low reflectivity. 10. I have made the argument for a while now that a book missing Tattooz or an MVS (that does not affect the story) should not take a hit in grading nor receive a Green Label since these items were "meant to be removed". A missing MVS can be viewed the same as a missing/cut out coupon, but the Tattooz do not affect the book/story in anyway. It is my opinion that if you do not/or are not going to penalize "Poly Bagged Books" for being removed from the Polybag or missing the Polybag you cannot penalize for missing Tattooz or a missing MVS.
  11. Sorry, have not been home. Rusty staples and severe rust migration, moderate wrinkling/bends of the front and rear covers, corner dings, 1/8" triangle missing from the lower left corner of rear cover. IMO the rust migration is enough to prevent this book from being a higher grade... 3.5 VERY GOOD- (VG-): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Very Good but with an additional defect or small accumulation of defects that detracts from the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 3.0 GOOD/VERY GOOD (GD/VG): Back to Top A used comic book showing some substantial wear. Cover shows significant wear, and may be loose or even detached at one staple. Cover reflectivity is very low. Can have a book-length crease and/or dimples. Corners may be blunted or even rounded. Discoloration, fading, foxing, and even minor to moderate soiling is allowed. A triangle from 1/4" to 1/2" can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" to 1/4" square is also acceptable. Tape and other amateur repair may be present. Moderate spine roll likely. May have a spine split of anywhere from 1" to 1-1/2". Staples may be rusted or replaced. Minor to moderate staple tears and moderate stress lines may be present, as well as some rust migration. Paper is brown but not brittle. Centerfold may be loose or detached at one staple. Minor to moderate interior tears may be present.
  12. As already stated by others, I am not familiar with books in this format, they are similar to my "Adventures Of The Big Boy" books. What I see is severe staining, numerous spine ticks, discolored staples, 5 perforation (gripper) holes, perforated edges, after looking at other issues of this book online it appears to be a bindery defect since other issues also have perforated edges. As the book sits right now... 5.5 FINE- (FN-): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Fine but with an additional defect or small accumulation of defects that detracts from the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. Paper is tan to brown with no signs of brittleness. Centerfold may be loose. Minor interior tears may also be present.
  13. Minor spine stress with a few spine ticks, some of which break color, color breaking small crease at lower left corner. Overall this is a nice book, the color breaking spine ticks keep the grade down, IMO... 8.5 VERY FINE+ (VF+): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Very Fine but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 8.0 VERY FINE (VF): Back to Top An excellent copy with outstanding eye appeal. A limited accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Cover is relatively flat with minimal surface wear beginning to show, possibly including some minute wear at corners. Inks are generally bright with moderate to high reflectivity. An unnoticeable 1/4" crease is acceptable if color is not broken. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. Minor foxing. Spine is almost completely flat with a possible minor color break. Staples may show some discoloration. Very slight staple tears and a few almost insignificant stress lines may be present. Paper is cream to tan and supple. Centerfold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present. According to eBay Sold Auctions, FMV for this book in Raw VF 8.0 - NM- 9.2 is in the $15.00 - $20.00 range, CGC graded books in the VF 8.0 - NM 9.4 are in the $30.00 - $60.00 range, grading is a choice you have to make, probably cost more than the book is valued at. IMO, a Mylite and Acid Free Board stored properly would be fine, if you want to display the book, they sell UV Protected Frames (CGC cases are not UV protected). https://www.bcwsupplies.com/comic-book-showcase-silver-uv
  14. Hard to see any minor defects with the blurry pics but I will do my best. Slightly rounded corners, minor spine stress with several color breaking spine ticks, writing on cover, discolored staples with slight rust migration at top staple, minor foxing/staining on rear cover, corner bend/crease at lower left of rear cover, finger bends/denting on outer edge of rear cover, what appears to be a small tear (1/8") on the lower edge of rear cover. Without clear pics and the writing on the cover, IMO... 6.0 FINE (FN): Back to TopAn above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with no significant creasing or other serious defects. Some accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases. Inks show a significant reduction in reflectivity. Blunted corners are more common, as is minor staining, soiling, discoloration, and/or foxing. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. A minor spine roll is allowed. There can also be a 1/4" spine split or severe color break. Staples may show minor discoloration. Minor staple tears and a few slight stress lines may be present, as well as minor rust migration. Paper is tan to brown and fairly supple with no signs of brittleness. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present. Centerfold may be loose.
  15. Not that you have a choice but hopefully it is not graded on a Monday or Friday and the grader is having a good week.
  16. Blunted out corners and edge wear with color rub, spine roll/fanned pages, minor to moderate spine stress w/color breaking spine ticks and vertical creases w/color break, discolored staples, moderate to severe foxing/staining on rear cover. Due to the foxing/staining on the rear cover I cannot assign a grade higher than...FN-5.5 6.0 FINE (FN): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with no significant creasing or other serious defects. 18. Welcome To The Boards!!! The book should have been removed from the bag so it can be seen better along with interior pages/interior of the covers. Corner/Edge wear w/color breaking creases and color rub, lower staple off center and slightly discolored, minor spine stress with a few color breaking spine ticks. 20. I have seen that line on other books as well, from what I understand it is a bindery/printing defect, it does not appear to be a "dust shadow", foxing, etc. Dust Shadow - Darker, usually linear area at the edge of some comics stored in stacks. Some portion of the cover was not covered by the comic immediately above it and was exposed to settling dust particles. Also see "Oxidation Shadow" and "Sun Shadow." I do not feel that the book will take a hit for this, however, nobody knows how CGC would view this on any given day. The only real issue I see is discolored staples. IMO... 9.4 NEAR MINT (NM): Back to Top Nearly perfect with only minor imperfections that keep it from the next higher grade. Subtle bindery/printing defects are allowed. Bindery tears must be less than 1/16" on Silver Age and later books, although on Golden Age books bindery tears of up to 1/4" have been noted. Cover is flat with no surface wear. Inks are bright with high reflectivity and a minimum of fading. Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted. A 1/16" bend is permitted with no color break. Small, inconspicuous, lightly penciled, stamped or inked arrival dates are acceptable as long as they are in an unobtrusive location. Slight foxing. Spine is tight and flat. Staples are generally centered; may have slight discoloration. Almost no stress lines. Paper is off-white to cream, supple and fresh. Slight interior tears are allowed. 9.2 NEAR MINT- (NM-): Back to Top Nearly perfect with only a minor additional defect or defects that keep it from Near Mint. A limited number of minor bindery/printing defects are allowed. Cover is flat with no surface wear. Inks are bright with only the slightest dimming of reflectivity. Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted. A 1/16-1/8" bend is permitted with no color break. Small, inconspicuous, lightly penciled, stamped or inked arrival dates are acceptable as long as they are in an unobtrusive location. Slight foxing. Spine is tight and flat. Staples may show some discoloration. Almost no stress lines. Paper is off-white to cream, supple and fresh. Slight interior tears are allowed. Examples of Dust Shadow.
  21. 2"-3" Spine Split at top, slight spine roll, slight edge/corner wear w/color rub, minor to moderate spine stress w/several color breaking spine ticks, discolored staples. It is the spine split that is hurting this grade, a spine split that long is only allowed in GD 2.0/GD+ 2.5, again we are back to how much of a hit does a book that may have been in the FN/VF 7.0 range take, unfortunately none of us have access to CGC's grading standards and there is no list of how much a certain defect drops a books grade on an otherwise higher grade copy, there are lots of gray areas in grading and lots of different interpretations of some grading terms. IMO... 5.5 FINE- (FN-): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Fine but with an additional defect or small accumulation of defects that detracts from the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): Back to Top An above-average but well used comic book. Paper is tan to brown with no signs of brittleness. Centerfold may be loose. Minor interior tears may also be present.
  22. Staining/Rust Migration at the top staple, lower staple discolored, slight color rub/wrinkles at lower left corner/edge, slight color rub in the "E" and "V" of "MarvelMan", staining in the first "M". The book overall is very nice, however, rusted staples/rust migration is not allowed in books above GD/VG 3.0, how much of a hit does an other wise near flawless book take? IMO, overall... Staples may show some discoloration. Very slight staple tears and a few almost insignificant stress lines may be present. Paper is cream to tan and supple. Centerfold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present. 7.5 VERY FINE- (VF-): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Very Fine but with an additional defect or small accumulation of defects that detracts from the book's appearance by a perceptible amount.

  24. Cannot see the bottom corners or staples. From what I can see... Slight color breaking corner crease at top right, cover not centered/spine roll, staining/foxing on the rear cover. Due to the slight color break at the top right corner but no other major defects, IMO...
