  1. After looking at eBay sold auction sales it appears that books in the VG/FN 5.0 - FN 6.0 are selling for about $450.00, a book that looks similar to yours (was listed as a FN 6.0) sold in March for $566.00.
  2. Blunted corners, numerous color breaking creases, moderate spine stress w/color breaks, minor to moderate staining/foxing on rear cover, what appears to be a small tear at the lower edge of the rear cover. IMO... VG+ 4.5 (Possibly a VG/FN 5.0) 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): Back to Top An above-average but well used comic book. An accumulation of bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor to moderate cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases and/or dimples. Inks have moderate to low reflectivity. Blunted corners are increasingly common, as is minor to moderate staining, discoloration, and/or foxing. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. A minor to moderate spine roll is allowed. A spine split of up to 1/2" may be present. Staples may show minor discoloration. Minor staple tears and minor stress lines may also be present, as well as minor rust migration. Paper is tan to brown with no signs of brittleness. Centerfold may be loose. Minor interior tears may also be present. 4.5 VERY GOOD+ (VG): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Very Good but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 4.0 VERY GOOD (VG): Back to TopThe average used comic book. Cover shows moderate to significant wear, and may be loose but not completely detached. Cover reflectivity is low. Can have moderate creases or dimples. Corners may be blunted. Store stamps, name stamps, arrival dates, initials, etc. have no effect on this grade. Some discoloration, fading, foxing, and even minor soiling is allowed. As much as a 1/4" triangle can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" square is also acceptable. Only minor unobtrusive tape and other amateur repair allowed on otherwise high grade copies. Moderate spine roll may be present and/or a 1" spine split. Staples may be discolored. Minor to moderate staple tears and stress lines may be present, as well as some rust migration. Paper is brown but not brittle. Minor to moderate interior tears may be present. Centerfold may be loose or detached at one staple.
  3. I cannot respond to your C and P questions since I do not use these services. Top edge wear with color breaking creases, color breaking creases at the top right corner, minor spine stress with a few color breaking spine ticks, slight spine roll and fanned pages, minor color rub on front cover, minor foxing/staining on rear cover. IMO... 6.5 FINE+ (FN+): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Fine but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 6.0 FINE (FN): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with no significant creasing or other serious defects. Some accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases. Inks show a significant reduction in reflectivity. Blunted corners are more common, as is minor staining, soiling, discoloration, and/or foxing. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. A minor spine roll is allowed. There can also be a 1/4" spine split or severe color break. Staples may show minor discoloration. Minor staple tears and a few slight stress lines may be present, as well as minor rust migration. Paper is tan to brown and fairly supple with no signs of brittleness. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present. Centerfold may be loose.
  4. Edge wear w/color breaking crease at top left, blunted corners w/color breaking crease at lower right corner, minor to moderate spine stress, numerous color breaking creases/color rub on front cover, rusted top staple w/rust migration, top edge wear/wrinkling on rear cover, rear cover staining. IMO... VG+ 4.5 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): Back to Top An above-average but well used comic book. An accumulation of bindery/printing defects is allowed. 5. I cannot comment on a Clean and Press since I do not use these services. Edge wear with color breaks on the outer edge, dings/wrinkles on top edge, a few spine ticks with color break, slightly blunted corners, two color breaking creases at lower right corner, wrinkling on rear cover. IMO, the color breaking creases at the lower right corner will prevent this book from grading higher. As the book sits right now... FN- 5.5 6.0 FINE (FN): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with no significant creasing or other serious defects. 6. Slightly blunted corners, a few spine ticks that break color, 3 creases on front cover (see pic and a crease/mark going through the "N" in "Amazing" and the "M" in "Man". Without having the book in front of me and not knowing what those marks/creases are I can only generalize on a grade. 7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal. A small accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor cover wear beginning to show, possibly including minor creases. Corners may be blunted. Inks are generally bright with a moderate reduction in reflectivity. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. Minor foxing. The slightest spine roll may be present, as well as a possible moderate color break. Staples may show some discoloration. Slight staple tears and a small accumulation of light stress lines may be present. Slight rust migration. Paper is cream to tan. Centerfold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present. 7. Nice Book. 3/4" triangle missing top right corner, 1" crease/tear at lower right corner, slightly blunted/rounded corners, moderate staining on front and rear covers, discolored staples, minor to moderate spine stress/creasing w/color breaks, what appears to be a 1/2" piece missing from the rear cover outer edge by the "Junior Sports Kit". If there is any leeway given to Golden Age books then this may grade higher, unfortunately, IMO, with the taped lower right corner (is the tape holding the piece on?) the 3/4" triangle missing from the top right corner and piece missing from the rear cover outer edge... 8. Are these creases where the yellow arrows are pointing?
  9. Slightly blunted corners, minor staining front cover, minor to moderate spine stress w/color breaks, small crease w/color break on lower edge, 1" crease w/color break at lower right corner, slight creasing top of rear cover, minor foxing on rear cover. IMO...FN+ 6.5 7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal. 11. Congrats on your acquisition, nice early Silver Age book, Enjoy!!! With the tears, multiple color breaking creases, moderate spine stress w/color break, small pieces missing on lower edge of front cover, rusted staples with rust migration, staining on both covers. On the positive side there are no spine splits and both the cover and centerfold appear to be firmly attached, IMO... 3.0 GOOD/VERY GOOD (GD/VG): Back to Top A used comic book showing some substantial wear. Cover shows significant wear, and may be loose or even detached at one staple. Cover reflectivity is very low. Can have a book-length crease and/or dimples. Corners may be blunted or even rounded. Discoloration, fading, foxing, and even minor to moderate soiling is allowed. A triangle from 1/4" to 1/2" can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" to 1/4" square is also acceptable. Tape and other amateur repair may be present. Moderate spine roll likely. May have a spine split of anywhere from 1" to 1-1/2". Staples may be rusted or replaced. Minor to moderate staple tears and moderate stress lines may be present, as well as some rust migration. Paper is brown but not brittle. Centerfold may be loose or detached at one staple. Minor to moderate interior tears may be present. 2.5 GOOD+ (GD+): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Good but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book's appearance by a perceptible amount.
  12. Minor to moderate edge wear with small color breaking creases, minor spine stress w/color breaks, off center staples, 1/4" - 1/2" triangle missing from lower right corner of front cover, slightly fanned pages w/chipping, 1/8" fold on lower left corner of rear cover. Overall the book is not that bad, unfortunately, IMO, the missing triangle at the lower right corner prevents this book from being a higher grade. IMO, VG+ 4.5, possibly a VG/FN 5.0. 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): Back to Top An above-average but well used comic book. An accumulation of bindery/printing defects is allowed. 13. I am an "Old Guy" so I do not use Zelle or Venmo, I have been using PayPal for almost 20 years, (for online purchases, paying some bills such as Auto Insurance). Me personally, I have not had any issues with PayPal and my experience in life has been that if you change/replace something "just because" you usually end up with problems, if something is working for you, leave it alone, "If it isn't broke, don't fix it". Having said all of that, everybody's circumstances/situations are different, I do not know enough about the p2p apps to say anything bad or good, as my Daughter who is a second grade teacher always says..."Make good choices". https://www.yahoo.com/video/paypal-vs-venmo-vs-zelle-120000559.html https://zipbooks.com/blog/paypal-vs-venmo-vs-zelle/
  14. Slightly blunted corners with slight wrinkling at top right corner, slight edge wear, what appears to be a long color breaking crease along the spine. Overall the book presents nicely and would grade at a VF/NM 9.0, however, if that is a color breaking crease IMO the book will not grade higher than... 7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF): Back to TopAn above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal. 15. I do not have my books graded, however, for years I have said that until CGC releases their grading standards any question of why a book received a certain grade as opposed to other books that were the same and received different grades is all speculation on our part, we will never know. Having said that, IMO a missing MVS or missing Tatooz should not render a book incomplete and a grade of FR/GD 1.5 - PR 0.5 on an otherwise higher grade book since these items were designed to be removed. (unless it affects the story), along the same lines, if you are going to treat these items that way, why would a factory polybagged book missing the bag not be rendered incomplete? Just my opinion.
  16. Nice story, a lot of us on this site can relate, I started in 1965, had to stop in 69, restarted again in 79 and I also have no intentions of selling, ENJOY Your Collection!!!
  17. The book itself (issue and number) and the grade of the book all determine value. Without knowing what you have, CGC grading may not even be a viable option if the cost of grading outweighs the actual value of the book. You should list the actual books you have and folks will let you know if any are worth grading. If any are worth grading then open a thread in the...https://boards.cgccomics.com/forum/42-hey-buddy-can-you-spare-a-grade/ section, post clear, sharp pics of the inside/outside of front/back covers, pics of the spine, corners, staples, centerfold, etc., also take note if any coupons are filled out, if there is any writing on the interior pages, if any ads are clipped, pages are missing/torn. If you are going to collect you should learn about grading as you go along, it will help you with what you have now and what you may buy in the future. https://comics.ha.com/tutorial/comics-grading.s?show=comicdefinitions https://gemstonepub.com/the-overstreet-guide-to-grading-comics-6th-edition/ Great Glossary on this site, grading standards are outdated so ignore those. http://www.teako170.com/grade.html Once you have assigned a grade to the books in question then you can use eBay Sold Auctions to see what these books in the same grade are selling for, eBay sold auctions are actual FMV since that is what folks are actually paying. (Ignore Buy It Now prices, do not compare raw/ungraded books to CGC graded books for value). As far as insurance, there is a insurance company that supplies insurance for collectibles only, no appraisal is needed, you determine the amount of coverage you want/need and can change it at any time. I have used CIS for over 10 years now, never had to file a claim (KNOCK ON WOOD!!!). I sent them a list of all of the books/collectibles I have and sent them an updated list yearly. In 2015 I graded and photographed 2000+ books in my collection and that info is saved to my laptop and 2 separate flashdrives, I also update FMV of my top 100 books every 6 month's. https://collectinsure.com/?gclid=CJu3heLP8cUCFYuPHwod4kgAww On top of all of that is proper storage...
  18. You will not receive a NM+ 9.6 with the corner bend which appears to break color, the overall condition of the book will determine how much of a grade hit the book will take due to the bend/crease. If you want an approx. overall grade I would suggest you post in the... https://boards.cgccomics.com/forum/42-hey-buddy-can-you-spare-a-grade/ You will need sharp/clear pics of the entire book, front/back/inside/outside of covers, spine, corners, centerfold. 9.6 NEAR MINT+ Almost imperceptible indentations are permissible, but no creases, bends, or color break. 9.4 NEAR MINT Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted. A 1/16" bend is permitted with no color break. 9.2 NEAR MINT- Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted. A 1/16-1/8" bend is permitted with no color break. 9.0 VERY FINE/NEAR MINT An 1/8" bend is allowed if color is not broken. Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted but no creases. 8.0 VERY FINE An unnoticeable 1/4" crease is acceptable if color is not broken.
  19. Welcome To The Boards!!! Blunted corners, edge wear with slight color breaks, moderate spine stress w/color breaks, color rub along the top edge, rear cover top staple tear, rear cover wrinkling along the spine, slight foxing on the rear cover. IMO, there is too much spine stress to be a FN/VF 7.0 but the book is better than a FN 6.0, so... FN+ 6.5 7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal. 20. All I see is 2-3 tiny spine ticks that slightly break color, slight edge wear at lower right edge/corner. IMO... 9.4 NEAR MINT (NM): Back to Top Nearly perfect with only minor imperfections that keep it from the next higher grade. Subtle bindery/printing defects are allowed. Bindery tears must be less than 1/16" on Silver Age and later books, although on Golden Age books bindery tears of up to 1/4" have been noted. Cover is flat with no surface wear. Inks are bright with high reflectivity and a minimum of fading. Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted. A 1/16" bend is permitted with no color break. Small, inconspicuous, lightly penciled, stamped or inked arrival dates are acceptable as long as they are in an unobtrusive location. Slight foxing. Spine is tight and flat. Staples are generally centered; may have slight discoloration. Almost no stress lines. Paper is off-white to cream, supple and fresh. Slight interior tears are allowed. 9.2 NEAR MINT- (NM-): Back to Top Nearly perfect with only a minor additional defect or defects that keep it from Near Mint. A limited number of minor bindery/printing defects are allowed. Cover is flat with no surface wear. Inks are bright with only the slightest dimming of reflectivity. Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted. A 1/16-1/8" bend is permitted with no color break. Small, inconspicuous, lightly penciled, stamped or inked arrival dates are acceptable as long as they are in an unobtrusive location. Slight foxing. Spine is tight and flat. Staples may show some discoloration. Almost no stress lines. Paper is off-white to cream, supple and fresh. Slight interior tears are allowed.
  21. Welcome To The Boards!!! I have never seen that before, it is possible that this book was pressed and not correctly causing the glue to melt. Do you have pics of the outside of the front and rear covers?
  22. This book must have graded much higher to receive a GD/VG 3.0 with that large piece missing from the front cover. GD/VG 3.0 - A triangle from 1/4" to 1/2" can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" to 1/4" square is also acceptable. GD 2.0 - The largest piece allowed missing from the front or back cover is usually a 1/2" triangle or a 1/4" square FR/GD 1.5 - Up to 1/10 of the back cover may be missing. FR 1.0 - there may be up to 1/4 of the front cover missing or no back cover, but not both.

  24. Welcome To The Boards!!! Slight edge wear, color breaking creases on outer edge, slight staple tears, slightly discolored staples, minor spine stress with a couple of color breaking spine ticks, moderate to severe foxing/mold on both the front and rear covers, inside and outside. IMO, it is the foxing/staining/mold that is keeping this book from being a higher grade, how does CGC view moderate to severe foxing?, Can it be removed? IMO... 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): Back to Top An above-average but well used comic book. An accumulation of bindery/printing defects is allowed.
