  1. What exactly is a "nice book"? You do not want any "well loved books" only high grade?
  2. The only answer I can come up with is that it is listed as starring almost all Hanna-Barbera characters so I would assume it was popular with kids.
  3. Nice Books!!! You did very well from a financial standpoint if you are interested in current value. Recent eBay auction sales show... ASM 41 CGC VG+ 3.5 sold for $136.00 and $152.00 F.F. 30 Raw FN- 5.5 - FN+ 6.5 sold for about $60.00, CGC 6.0 ?
  4. I have spent the last 40 years amassing my collection which involved a lot of legwork/driving for 30 years before the internet and eBay, comic collecting was/is my passion and I have no plans on liquidating my collection. I am leaving all of my books (1800 +/-) to my two Children (42 and 39) with detailed instructions stored with the will on proper handling/storage and all of the options on how and where to sell the collection detailing the pro's and con's of each option. Since most books are 10/12/15 cent covers, all are graded (All Raw, Only Two CGC), documented/inventoried/cataloged/photographed and stored in short boxes by title/number, (lowest to highest) and all boxes are marked with the contents in each and stored alphabetically it should not be to difficult. All of the pictures/lists of books/collectibles are stored on my computer and two separate flashdrives and the instructions with the will telling them where to find the flashdrives. Since my Son has decided to sell his collection (1800 books +/-) and collectibles he will have some experience selling. Besides, if I cashed out I would end up spending the money, this way they get something since any and all remaining cash after all final expenses are paid is being left to my 6 Grandchildren.
  5. Comic Book Grading Standards. https://comics.ha.com/tutorial/comics-grading.s?show=comicdefinitions If you prefer something with illustrations showing the defects allowed in each grade then purchase this. https://www.gemstonepub.com/en/the-overstreet-guide-to-grading-comics-2016-edition
  6. There is someone out there that enjoys the Flintstones and does care about the 29 cent variant. If I were collecting Flintstones comics I would certainly be interested in that book just as I am/was interested in all of the Sad Sack "One Shots", Promo's and Spinoffs for my Sad Sack collection. Out of curiosity I looked in Overstreet and this is what is written... "29 cent version exists, 2nd print?" The 1st printing values listed are $5.00 for GD 2.0 to $75.00 for NM- 9.2.
  7. First let me say, Nice Book!!! Since "Marvel Chipping" is a defect I will also go with a... 3.0 GOOD/VERY GOOD (GD/VG): Back to TopA used comic book showing some substantial wear. Cover shows significant wear, and may be loose or even detached at one staple. Cover reflectivity is very low. Can have a book-length crease and/or dimples. Corners may be blunted or even rounded. Discoloration, fading, foxing, and even minor to moderate soiling is allowed. A triangle from 1/4" to 1/2" can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" to 1/4" square is also acceptable. Tape and other amateur repair may be present. Moderate spine roll likely. May have a spine split of anywhere from 1" to 1-1/2". Staples may be rusted or replaced. Minor to moderate staple tears and moderate stress lines may be present, as well as some rust migration. Paper is brown but not brittle. Centerfold may be loose or detached at one staple. Minor to moderate interior tears may be present.
  8. Sorry for the loss of your brother. Finding someone that will want all 7000-10,000 books will be difficult especially if you do not know what you have. IMO, inventorying what you have is where you need to start, at least by title and number so you can see what era(s) these books cover. Where these books stored by title? Are any of the boxes marked showing what is in each?
  9. IMO... The book presents better than a VG 4.0 but has too many stress lines/creases to be VG/FN 5.0, so... VG+ 4.5
  10. From what I can see that is a nice book overall and may have downgraded to VG 4.0 due to the corner pieces that are missing. According to the grading standards a GD/VG 3.0 is allowed... "A triangle from 1/4" to 1/2" can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" to 1/4" square is also acceptable" That book is certainly much nicer IMO than a GD/VG 3.0 and from what I can see appears to be nicer IMO than a VG 4.0 so it apparently lost points for the obvious defects. I do not have my books graded but from what I understand is you get a discount for sending in competitors slabs to CGC to be regraded, someone with more knowledge on this will probably chime in.
  11. Nice Book!!! I cannot see well enough from your pics to give you a fair and honest grade, however... I am glad to see I am not the only ROM Spaceknight collector. ROM came out right when I was getting back into collecting and it is the only title/books I have from that era. I have the complete run and purchased them new back in the 70's/80's and Loved the entire storyline from beginning to end. Enjoy!!!
  12. I always loved 60's crossovers so I will throw these into the mix along with two obscure books from my childhood.
  13. OMG, get out of my head... That is exactly how and why I collect, other than the titles we think alike on runs and condition.
  14. Speaking as a collector on a budget for 40 years I have a lot of "Well Loved" readers and my goal was/is to complete my runs not collect high grade keys, If I was at a con/show and had the chance to buy one high grade book I needed or 10 low grade books I needed for the same price I would have taken the 10 low grade books. Now that I am getting up in years it just seems logical that only owning 5 -10 "High Grade Keys" would be easier for my family for liquidation after I am gone rather then them having to liquidate 2000 books. (95% are 10 cent/12 cent/25 cent annuals) But I digress, I am still here, have no plans to get rid of anything and I am completely happy with my collection as it stands and would not have done anything differently.
  15. It also depends on what your plans are for these books. Are you looking to sell them or keep them for yourself and your collection?
  16. I will play the devils advocate here... IMO... 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): Back to TopAn above-average but well used comic book. An accumulation of bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor to moderate cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases and/or dimples. Inks have moderate to low reflectivity. Blunted corners are increasingly common, as is minor to moderate staining, discoloration, and/or foxing. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. A minor to moderate spine roll is allowed. A spine split of up to 1/2" may be present. Staples may show minor discoloration. Minor staple tears and minor stress lines may also be present, as well as minor rust migration. Paper is tan to brown with no signs of brittleness. Centerfold may be loose. Minor interior tears may also be present.
  17. What he said, ^^^^^, also some closer pics of the spine. If there are no "visible" spine ticks from what I can see I would give this book a... 9.0 VERY FINE/NEAR MINT (VF/NM): Back to TopNearly perfect with outstanding eye appeal. A limited number of bindery/printing defects are allowed. Cover is almost flat with almost imperceptible wear. Inks are bright with slightly diminished reflectivity. An 1/8" bend is allowed if color is not broken. Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted but no creases. Several lightly penciled, stamped or inked arrival dates are acceptable. Very minor foxing. Spine is tight and flat. Staples may show some discoloration. Only the slightest staple tears are allowed. A very minor accumulation of stress lines may be present if they are nearly imperceptible. Paper is off-white to cream and supple. Very minor interior tears may be present. Either way that is a GREAT BOOK!!!, Enjoy.
  18. IMO... VG 4.0 - VG+ 4.5. 4.5 VERY GOOD+ (VG): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Very Good but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 4.0 VERY GOOD (VG): Back to Top The average used comic book. Cover shows moderate to significant wear, and may be loose but not completely detached. Cover reflectivity is low. Can have moderate creases or dimples. Corners may be blunted. Store stamps, name stamps, arrival dates, initials, etc. have no effect on this grade. Some discoloration, fading, foxing, and even minor soiling is allowed. As much as a 1/4" triangle can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" square is also acceptable. Only minor unobtrusive tape and other amateur repair allowed on otherwise high grade copies. Moderate spine roll may be present and/or a 1" spine split. Staples may be discolored. Minor to moderate staple tears and stress lines may be present, as well as some rust migration. Paper is brown but not brittle. Minor to moderate interior tears may be present. Centerfold may be loose or detached at one staple.
  19. I moved and am now able to look at my ASM 45, speech bubbles are blank.
  20. Better pics from different angles with the book out of the bag and without the reflections will help you get a response.
