  1. Uncle Bounty is planning to light your fire with a sit-a-around each week. I'm trying to spend more time with my collection; as many of you know I go real hot and cold on the boards just due to general work and life duties. In order to put some pep in my step I am going to begin holding a weekly campfire series where I share a book from my collection and go into some detail around it with commentary. Feel free to post comments and jump into the conversation I welcome it. I will plan to kick this off this weekend. Looking forward to seeing you around.
  2. This is a hobby high on emotion. Emotional attachment due to memory, eye appeal, character, artist, time invested in searching, expectation in finding another in the near or distant future, etc. All of these are variables that come into play. The more of these variables that exist for those that want THAT book reflect it's value to those people. The prices of books are only the value to those who were there for it at those price points. "Market value" makes it seem as if it is a measurable algorithm. It simply is not. The demand of the book also changes as more or less of those people gain or lose the emotional attachments to a particular book.
  3. The Future of Comic Book collecting is a bright one in my opinion. Of course world events, economic events, political events ebb and flow markets and those affect all things money based. Comic movies have obviously brought new blood into the hobby. There is still a huge knowledge gap I feel though between this new blood and many Silver and especially Golden Age books. Hell I've been collecting for decades and still come across stuff I never new existed. As information transfer in the hobby improves and more younger collectors have better means to discover the depth of the hobby it will only improve. High Tech paying jobs for this echelon of new or upcoming collectors also helps to keep a bit of a floor. Think of what went into comic books. You had creative teams producing a product from their creativity, you had companies that supported them, manufacturing process, you had distribution channels, etc; this is a ton of energy that went into producing these sought after Cultural Relics. What they represent often transcend the ages. There is a general scarcity that will only increase as more and more realize what is really out there and certain books become more favored by the next generation. I'm still discovering.
  4. Thank you Sqeggs! It took some careful planning to come away with the ones I cared most about about within my wallet width.
  5. All is fair in love and war? This was Love and War. It sounds like there was carnage amongst boardies, but at the end of the day the love was spread generously over this war painting us heavily with its warmth. I have never been a part of such an amazing comic event. I have never bought books from any of the major auction houses (Heritage, ComicLink, ComicConnect, etc.). So this was a first for me at many levels. I figured it was not one that I could miss. As I would be able to tell future generations about where these riches and treasures came from. The Collection of Jon Berk. Below is my consolidated haul. This has been fun. It's great that I will have tangible proof to remind me of this great event.
  6. I had to pick between this one or the Roller Coaster Orange cover. It was a very tough decision I wanted both. I am over the moon with this one. Glad you didn't put the screws on any further!

  9. This has to be one of my favorites still around. What a freakin cover! Really does it for me. I'm happy for whoever ends up getting this. Way outside of my ballpark.
  10. Lou I have to confess that I was not familiar with these 2 books (The Star Ranger series) prior to the Berk auctions. Once I saw them I became enamored with them. I knew I did not have a chance at the run; so picked the 2 that resonated most with me. It looks like I got lucky; because I was running on fumes at the point the hammer hit.
