Don't know if anyone followed the Heritage Auction. The splash page to the GRUTO story went for $5K. Does that seem ridiculously low for a Kirby/Ayers splash page??
I'll have to check to see if it met reserve. I woulda bid on it if I didn't have money tied up elsewhere. I mean, it's GRUTO!!

Gorgeous Ditko cover!!!!
-
Wow. That's all I can say.

Nikos, that FF 116 is a GREAT book! One of my favorite comics as a kid: whoda thunk Doc Doom would actually JOIN the FF to battle a foe??? Absolute CLASSIC!

For those who don't visit the pre-hero thread in the Silver Age forum, here are my acquisitions this week:
-
Just a reminder for all you newer boardies....theres a SUPER website for pre-hero Marvel Monster fans at:

Just picked up these puppies; should have them in hand next week!
Wow, ol' Hulkie boy sure grew a lot from issue 62 to 66! Somebody give him a steroid test...
-
I'd put him on "ignore" for a week for that comment!
Then I guess you'll have to miss out on the new Nohands post, huh?
Don't make me pull this car over!

Muucho Grande Sweeeeeeeeeet!
What are the oldest books in the Pacific Coast? Anyone know?
Sweet, indeed.
Too bad it's a pre-hero ToS.
Now that's just crazy talk, son.

Here is my first (but hopefully not last!) Pedigree book: A Pacific Coast

For post #1000, I thought I'd scan one of my favorite of the pre-hero books. This is the WM copy.
Hoochie WaaWaa!! Congrats on 1,000 posts, and what a BEAUTIFUL book!
-
Does this look familiar?
-
Actually the cover image is a severe swipe from the old silent movie "The Golem"
Hilarious blurbs!!

Looks much nicer then a 7.5 (good eye appeal).
Definitely one of my favorite covers between #70-89.
I love the split covers #59-69, and lots of the covers from #90-101, but most of the ones from #70-89 don't grab my attention.
Thanks, yes, I was hoping it would come back 8.0 to 8.5, but there is an accumulation of flaws, including a scuff on the back cover, that probably took it down to 7.5.
I agree, the late covers were very nice, as were the Hulk/Giant Man covers. When I was a kid I picked up a TTA 61 and 65 at a garage sale and those were among my prized early Marvels.

Yes, they are beautiful!

Yep! I'm using scans I pulled from his site because I'm too lazy to scan them myself....
I have to say, my experience buying from Mark (Colmore Comics) was truly great. HIs original shipping estimate ended up high and so he refunded the difference to me. An absolute class act.
Here's one of the other books I picked up from him. It's not ultra high grade, but has great eye appeal and for some reason I reallly like this cover:
-
Just picked this up. A nice 9.2 and a Pacific Coast Pedigree to boot!

HUGE thanx to DNAgent for a sweet OA page and a handful of classic TOS pre-hero books I needed.
Many thanks also to the Blazing one for 3 ultra-nice HG pre-hero books (2 strange tales and a TOS).
-
NICE! I love that colossus cover!
COLOSSUS um, ROCKS!
-
Picked these up at ComicFest from the Blazing one:
And a super high-grade TOS 8 that I haven't scanned yet.
-
"wraps it up".... Ooh. Ah. Ouch.
Man, that is a super sweet Mummy cover!
And you have a copy!!!!!
