  1. Very Nice Books canickus, I just happen to have 2 copies of the Giant-Size Spider-Man #3 with Double Covers also may be one of the more comon ones. hm

:( I think the only Marvel Giants I have are the Spidey #3 & 4 both of which you have so I would be of no help on that collection. I think I may have a few DC 100 pagers with Double covers though. :)

  2. Haven't been on these boards for a few months, but it's always fun to check in once in a while. Nice to see this thread is still somewhat alive! That Thor with the 7 covers is pretty awesome! Hope you guys are doing well! :)

:hi: Hey Charles it's been a while how is it going, added any new ASM Double Covers to your collection lately? :gossip:

  3. Thanks! I may try and sell this at some point, but right now I'm just trying to get an idea of how much this thing is worth (if anything). On the one hand, it's not exactly a high demand book; on the other hand, I'm pretty sure it's a one of a kind item. The question is how much of a premium the uniqueness adds to a book you can probably get for a dollar.

I've been watching eBay, but haven't come across too many triple+ covers that have actually sold.

Have any of you heard of a book with more than 7 covers? Most I've seen is 4.

hm There was a CGC Graded Marvel Giant Size Book on ebay last year that had 9 covers on it. Can't remember the tital though. (shrug) Think there is a thread somewhere in the Bronze Age section about it.

  4. This was from World Color Press day in Sparta in 1977.

I worked with the man that organized and orchestrated this event for 10 years in Oklahoma, and he's the source of most of my knowledge on printing from back in the old days.

I didn't see him on the video, but I guarantee that man knows everyone that was pictured in it.

They printed a comic for the occasion called "Magazineland USA" and it featured characters from all the publishers (Marvel, DC, Harvey, etc.) and it's probably the only time they were ever all in the same comic. The comic was illustrated by Joe Kubert and students at his comic school back in the '70s. It gives a tour of the Sparta plant and incorporates the various comic characters throughout the issue. It's a wealth of knowledge without a doubt. It's pretty hard to find and I used to have a copy somewhere.

I can remember throwing out probably 400-500 or so video tapes of training footage from the Sparta plant. I wish I'd thought they might contain some worthy information, but at the time I just wanted the things out of my way.

Anyway, I'll see if I can get that video to the guy I mentioned. He'll love it.

He still has a BUNCH of the printing plates. He didn't keep one here or there, everything he has is a complete set with all four colors for whatever cover it printed. He has a ton of stuff from the old days. He said they used to have samples in the plant lobby, and that Carmine Infantino came to visit one day and made him take a bunch of the older comics out because they were too valuable to be sitting in the lobby where anyone could just walk in and take them. The people that printed them were clueless as to what they were worth.

I was there. I was 10 years old and lived in Sparta in 1977. That was a very big day for our small town. I still have a few copies of Magazineland USA. I should scan the cover and upload it here. I wish I could see the youtube video, but it has been taken down.

Yes, we were clueless as to what comics could be worth.

 You were there that is very cool. I saved the Video on my computer if you want pm me your email and I will see if I can email it to you. (thumbs u

  5. :o:applause: Wow canickus your Double Cover X-Men Collection is great and is really starting to rival my ASM one. I especially find those ones with the inner cover missaligned very interesting like the #31, 142 & 299 and that one with the second cover at the centerfold is just strange I would be very interested to know how that could have happened at the comic plant as I have a Daredevil issue like that myself. And that X-Men #100 30 cent Variant Double Cover is just too Cool, I need a ASM price variant in my Double Cover Collection if one even exist. :wishluck:

Very nice Collection I enjoyed looking at them. (thumbs u

:whee: just seen this is my 1000 post only took me like 6 years to get there. lol

  6. :) So the book has a dog ear inner cover?

hm Could you go more into the process of how covers are put onto the pages? Are they lifted and placed on the pages as they go by, or maybe just droped from a feader of some sort? What are the mechinecs of the process? Just trying to see how the inner cover might have got folded before it got stapled. I do have some single cover books with Dog Ear Covers so I do know it happens. :gossip:

  7. hm this just came up on ebay: Uncanny X-Men #142 Double Cover Interesting book, but is this possible to have come out of the factory in this condition? With the top edge of the inner cover not cut with the rest of the book and shouldn't the outter Cover also not be cut at the top and maybe have a white border on it? (shrug) I collect weird error stuff like this and would really like to know if this is authnic and if so how it happened? :gossip:

  8. Nice Quad Cover Team-UP there. (thumbs u

hm here is one I just got in that has me puzzled it has a 9.2 Outter Cover and a 9.0 Inner Cover and has White Pages and the overall grade is a 9.0 I would have thought this one would have got a 9.2 (shrug)
