  1. Wow that is quite a haul do you live near one of the test markets?
  2. That's the third one I've seen recently. Me, you and LetsGrumble. Does your X-Men #1 have the same cover? or is it one of the other 3 It's that one. Well Dang that is a shame, would be cool to put together the whole set of those with Double Covers. Some books just seem to get Double Covers more than others.

  4. Here are a few of my recent additions to the DC collection. Found this one in some stuff I all ready had.
  5. I have been thinking about Rarity of these again and I wanted to ask does anyone know is there any way to search the CGC Census or Registry to see how many copies of any book was graded with double covers or any other Pedigree for that mater. I know the info is in the system because when I add books to my Registry Set and enter the Cert number it shows up the grade, page color and pedigree in my case Double Cover. I also know you can look through other peoples sets and see if their copies are pedigree or not but that would take a massive amount of time to look through them all that way and not all graded copies are in Registry sets so it would still be incomplete. Take for example Amazing Spider-Man #129 I know there are at least 4 CGC graded copies with Double Covers and I know there are 6,716 on the Census, so you have a 1 in 1,679 Rarity if my number is right and I have no way to be sure it is. I would like to run the numbers on lots of other books (like Iron Man #55 and others) If there is a way to search the Census for the pedigrees of each book. Can anyone help? or point me in the right direction?
  6. If you really want it back, I guess we can come to terms. It's either that, or I have to start my own double cover collection... Uhoh, might be too late. The Phantom is now snuggled against the Mcfarlane ASM double cover I already have. Two makes a collection so I guess that's that! All is not lost, I could be persuaded to take that Spidey double cover off your hands.
  7. I wish the price variants would lose some steam, That is a run I am interested in I wonder what a Star Wars #1 $0.35 diamond edition with UPC symbol would fetch if one ever came to market? I remember those. Weren't there 2 and one was looking like a cut and paste? Anyone know if they are real? I don't believe these even exist as I have been looking for 14 years and I bought one off ebay many years ago that was a cut and paste job.
  8. Mike is a great guy to deal with set me up a 6 month time payment deal on a very expensive book and went out of his way to work with me on it. Got the book yesterday and I am very pleased would not hesitate to work with him again.
  9. (thumbs u Cool book, We really need to work out a trade for that ASM #148 you have.
  10. wow nice my eye keeps going to that Strange Tales Annual cool find let us know if you find any Double Covers in those. (thumbs u
  11. Would CGC grade such a book, since the outer cover is loose? Yes.
  12. (thumbs u Cool Double Cover ASM #86 you should post a picture of it in the CELEBRATE THE DOUBLE COVER Thread. Check it out some Cool pictures and info in that thread.
  13. I seem to recall seeing one on ebay a few years back listed as having both the insert and a double cover so yours may not be the only one but it is still very cool item. (thumbs u I think I have either 4 or 5 double covers comics now that also have Mark Jewelers or National Diamond Inserts. One is like yours it says Mark Jewelers on the CGC label but it is a ASM #100 so it should be the National Diamond insert. I can't say for sure because I bought it already graded and I have never opened it.
  14. Thanks very much for the reply PovertyRow I very much appreciate your knowledge and love reading stuff like this. but I am still confused about some things, they use the original art to make the negatives from correct, and in order to make 4 different price changes they need to make 4 black negatives to then in turn make 4 final black plates from, one for each price variation. Do they add a price paste up to the original art to make the 4 different negatives or do they just add the price changes directly to the black negatives somehow? And if they do just put them on the original art they must have to attach them in some way that it is easy to remove so they can make a quick change to the next price negative for that particular issue? Set me strait on this PovertyRow, I am sure I am missing something in the process and would very much like to know more.
  15. Your numbers are a little off there, you say you have seen a 9.6 & a 9.8 sell and well on May 14 of 2013 there were 4 copies up for sale on ebay a CGC 7.5 a 8.0 a 9.2 and even a raw one so with just those you have 6 examples with double covers and I have seen allot more than that. I have collected Double Covers since around 2001 and have kept a close eye out for them for many years and I am sure I have seen more than a dozen copies of this book. I would guess several board members here probably own copies and I would think the total number of existing copies would be a lot closer to 20 than 7 either way it is still a very rare and very hot book so no argument there and it is a great find.
  16. Hey Shark Another example, I have the Gil Kane Kid Colt Outlaw #218 cover art, that I bought many years ago off ebay " I actually found this before I found a copy of the 35 cent variant" and I did not notice it before but I looked it over real good today and it also has what looks like clear tape over the Issue number, June & 02482 it is very hard to see but it is there, this one does not have the TM though maybe that fell off. It would be cool to see a Marvel Cover Art page with the 35 cent variant paste up attached or even any of the other price variations.
  17. Follow up on 10 year old question for DiceX or PovertyRow or anyone else with printer knowledge from the 70's The reason for my original question was that I was very interested in collecting the Marvel 35 cent price variants and I was very curious as to how the printers changed the price boxes for the different versions. at the time I think there were 4 versions like the 30 cent copy, the 35 cent copy, the Diamond price copy and the UK price copy. My original thought after reading allot of stuff from DiceX and seeing the price error on that Marvel Presents #12 Variant was maybe they just clear taped the small price box change over the price on the original art and made all the different plates for each version. Over the last 10 years I have seen many Marvel Covers from the time frame of the price variants but have never seen one with any variation of the price other than just the 30 cent ones. So I am still very curious if maybe those price changes were just taped on and pulled off after each the different plates were made? DiceX & PovertyRow seemed to think the clear tape ideal was very unlikely so I did not think much more about it until today I found this picture of a Thor #261 cover. It appears to have some areas pasted on and a few others that look like clear tape was used, see the box with the Issue number, July & 02450 in it and also the little TM between Thor's legs that looks like clear tape to me but I guess it could have been done later, just wondering what you think. Is it posible that the 35 cent price was placed on the negative with a small piece of clear tape in the shape of the white lines and the edges of the tape came out on the plate, is this posible or am I way off base? Based on the positioning of the lines, I don't see that happening. Makes no sense if the whole price was cut in. I agree, POV. Back in the film days, we didn't use clear tape for much of anything. Matter o fact, our boss would have killed us if he saw clear tape on anything. This type of thing would be just the reason.
  18. All double cover comic books are very rare some more so than others but I have seen quite a few copies of the Iron Man #55 in fact a little over 2 years ago there were four of them up on ebay for sale at the same time. Check out this thread link Double Covers Lots of cool info and pictures of this type of error and Cool buy. (thumbs u
  19. It is at $256 now I think it will end at that price.
  20. Not sure why but Inhumans #5 and Ka-Zar #16 only have 30 cent versions it is very strange.
