  1. This one is a head scratcher for sure. Obviously different books with the same cert#. -bc
  2. No. As @HowardHughes pointed out, the page quality is too variable in the grading process. -bc
  3. Also lost the Joined Date in the avatar area. -bc
  4. I didn't even mention the potential QC issues that could happen if someone submits multiple copies of the same book in near the same grades. -bc
  5. IMHO - Don't think that putting a scanned image of the book on the label is going to do anything to stop fraud. The image is going to be as big as postage stamp, if that. There's no way to see any level of detail to verify that the actual slabbed book is the same. Here's a sample label: Where are you going to put the image at without a total redesign? Guess they could put it on the back of the label - but again, it's going to be too small to discern any unique characteristics of that specific book. -bc
  6. Yes. It's a way to tie in several of the value-added service in the CGC eco-system. Makes the customer feel like they are getting more than they are paying for. -bc
  7. All good man And to take it one step further, ALL submissions should be added to the submitter account as a Custom Registry set. The submitter can move them to any other Competitive of personal Custom Set anytime they want or they can leave them there. That would then add another point in the chain of custody cycle and add a value-added service to differentiate from the competitors. -bc
  8. From a capital cost, it's pennies per unit. From an operational cost, it's seconds of labor. From a brand integrity perspective, it's priceless. One way to "leapfrog" the competition. -bc EDIT: The same solution authenticates a multi-billion dollar Italian cheese industry: https://wired.me/technology/parmesan-cheese-microchip/
  9. Putting an image anywhere on the label (front/back) does nothing if the outer case (and therefore the label) can be compromised with limited tamper evidence. Why do you think they started putting hardware-based chips on all credit & debit cards? Why do you have to type in a secret code that your bank text messages on your personal smartphone in order to login? It's all a way to increase authentication via a secondary criteria and reduce fraud (which reduces liabilities and operating costs and preserves the brand's reputation). CGC needs to add an additional metric to authenticate the chain of custody. Hence my suggestions about embedding a microchip into the seal of the inner well. -bc
  10. The ability to snap my fingers and the laundry is washed, dried, folded/ironed and put away. -bc
  11. They are the same book. I prefer the second copy (better colors and wrap). -bc
  12. That would likely be a bigger change to the current production model and really doesn't provide any secondary authentication method. If we treat it like cybersecurity, there are 3 authentication requirements: Something you know (such as a password) Something you have (such as a smart card) Something you are (such as a fingerprint or other biometric method) In this case it would be: Something you know (the Certification number) Something you have (the actual comic book) Something you are (the microchip ID) -bc
  13. I would seal the microchip directly in the top seal of the inner well (basically laminate into the inner well). That way it provides a secondary identification/authentication method. If the inner well is missing the chip or the chip can't be read or located in the database when a resub/reholder is received, it goes straight to the full grading process. Since several scams have leveraged the reholder/custom label/switching inner wells & labels, this provides a potential secondary validation point to identify fraudulent activity outside the current protective measures. I do understand the QC concerns, but if they are going to improve the integrity of their brand, then some financial and process investments will be required. Since the office above me specializes in microchip solutions and I've seen how versatile they are, here's a Wired article about how they are utilized in the Italian cheese industry: https://wired.me/technology/parmesan-cheese-microchip/ -bc
  14. Depends on how they married it. If they used any tape or other adhesive, the weight would deviate. -bc
  15. My ex used to send me messages in that same wall of text format when she was wasted. -bc
  16. That post was likely created on a phone by the formatting. Give them kudo's for the wall of text without any edits. -bc
  17. Any master list (and pics) should be published here so the collectors and dealers can identify and handle the books accordingly. -bc
  18. I 100% hope he is trying to make things right. But the fact that customer and personal books are "intermingled" is a bit alarming considering they made it all the way to an eBay listing. Also, what happens with the customer books that no one claims? Do those become part of his collection then? Hopefully there is a master list. Thanks for working with him to get people's property back! -bc
