I have lists of all of my books/memorabilia/collectibles for insurance purposes.
Actually glad you brought up "Monsters" in the Westerns.
I had needed a Two Gun Kid 58 to complete my run of TGK and it had eluded me for years and then one showed up on eBay for $30.00 in FR condition which was almost 10 times over guide.
I contacted the seller and asked why he was asking such a high price and so much over guide and his response was that it was a "Kirby Monster Cover" and I said, so...
Did not buy it from him and a couple months later I got one in an eBay auction in VG for $23.00.
So the western/PHM cross-over list has these so far:
Two Gun Kid 58
Rawhide Kid 22
Kid Colt Outlaw 100, 107
Do you know of any others? Thanks for any info!

Since I'm addicted to this genre, a slow steady drip will suffice...
I recently discovered the some of the learly 60's Atlas/Marvel westerns also had a PHM-theme. Do you have an easy to access list for the OCD crowd?
Thanks!

Hello,
Just found this site a few days ago and so far LOVE the Forums, you guys are Actually talking about the books I grew up with and am still collecting to this day.
As far as Pre-Hero Marvel I have completed the Amazing Adventures/Adult Fantasy(except 15) TOS and TTA runs and I am currently working on the Strange Tales and JIM.
Right now with those titles I have...
JIM
6, 9, 13, 15, 18, 22, 26, 27(just bought), 28, 32 and 34 - 82
Strange Tales
3, 4, 7, 9, 10, 13, 22, 27, 28, 30, 31, 33, 35, 37, 40 and 43 - 100.
Welcome to the Thread/Boards!
Get that scanner fired up and lets see some group shots of those runs !

It has probably been there a while, but while updating my registry I checked and the slot for the JIM #76 pricing variant is now available for anyone interested in updating their sets. I'll try to get around to checking the census data sometime soon, and in the meantime if someone would like to check it and post here that would be great!
Let's see for JIM76 - Pricing Variant Non-SS books:
9.4 = 1
9.2 = 1
9.0 = 1
8.5 = 2
8.0 = 1
7.5 = 2
7.0 = 2
6.5 = 0
6.0 = 0
5.5 = 3
5.0 = 2
4.5 = 0
4.0 = 0
3.5 = 1
3.0 = 1
that's it for Universal, there's only 1 SS @ 3.0
Total Graded Universal = 17
Total Graded SS = 1
Total Graded = 18
For the NON-Variant, there's only 13 Universal & 1 Qualified for a total graded count of 14.
Variant is +4 right now.

A sweet PHM strategically decorated by Stan's signature:

Just picked this little copy up (thumbs u
Very Nice copy of the first issue that finally started to respect our mature readers' intelligence!
Always liked the use of the grey scale on the crowd except for the kid and just showing the back of the monster.
All that and the "Stan Lee + S. Ditko" on the cover make this one of my favorites!

PS - Is that a Peter Parker cameo on the cover all the way to the right or just a stock Ditko figure?

Hi Guys,
Ain't she a beauty?
She' is one VERY gorgeous book! (I feel like I'm cheating because I typically solicit the Pre-Hero Marvels thread).

Not sure if others have seen this, but I found it interesting:
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/ditkomania/conversations/topics/3314
It also got me looking into the Post-PHM legacy on the GCD:
"I'm struck by the fact that TOS #54 (June 1964) was special for a reason previously unknown to me -- it carried the last Marvel (non-series) fantasy 5-pager of the early 1960s: "Skrang Strikes Tonight!" by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber & Ayers. The final non-series 5-pagers in the other anthologies came earlier: Strange Tales #113 (Oct. 1963; which had two fantasy back-ups including one by Lee & Ditko), Tales to Astonish #54 (April 1964) and Journey into Mystery #104 (May 1964). The end of an era!"
So TOS54 appears to be the end of the line if you extend "PHM" and exclude the Tales of the Watcher/Wasp/Asgard stories.
Sorry if I'm re-hashing something discussed pages ago, lost track of all the rabbit holes this single thread has taken me in this hobby!

These books are totally amazing to me - never realized that there was a PHM-Western cross-over connection! Thanks for the continuing education credits!

Just average pages on this one, but it IS the variant price cover
Cool books Frisco ! I like your taste. It seems like I see more of the Pricing Variant on the 76 than the regular edition. The census does not distinguish between the two so it's difficult to say.
I feel like I see more of the variant too. Since it is on the label CGC ought to be able to add a slot for the variant in the pre-hero JIM set. I think it's time to make a request...
I did request a separate slot in the registry for the pricing variant, and Gemma came through! She said it would take about a week for the registry to update with the splitting of #76 into variant and non-variant, and then she can add the slot. So now we will get to see the ratio in the books that are graded.
Thank you very much !

I've been around since page 1 of this thread and don't remember an answer for this:
http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=8088462&fpart=5
Is there a definitive location/document that we attribute to coining the phrase "pre-hero Marvel"?
