  1. I'm wondering why there are no pics? Here you go, Doc... That JIM45 is gorgeous. Usually, I stay in the post-Atlas implosion era, but that book with the Everett cover had me thinking about expanding my collecting interests.....very glad to see a boardie won it! -bc
  2. Barely stayed up late enough to win this TTA 23 Kirby monster pants!!! Seemed to be "dark blue cover night" for me. Lost out on a couple others - bidding seemed solid on the PHM books in general. Hope to see others posted! -bc
  3. Snagged a couple from the c4less auction Sunday night. Seemed to be competing with a user "a*******a" on a regular basis - (e*******r here) First is the JIM 63: -bc
  4. That's interesting because MMC #20 has the ad for Cap #3 With the small add for HT #3 on the front: Anyone have a scan of HT #3 to see if it refers back to MMC #20? Awesome thread idea! The back cover of HT3 is an ad for an American Flag. I haven't cracked it out to see what's inside yet. Quick two-fer - back covers of MMC13 & HT4(3): -bc
  5. +1 I second that emotion ! Gorgeous book! -bc
  6. I try to have my keepers be 6.0 or better, and I really like 7.5s when I can find them (all the beauty of a VF book and cheaper than the aforementioned price spike at 8.0). Anywhere in that range is high grade enough for me. 7.5 to 8.5 is my high grade for many early (59-61) PHM issues. PQ is important as well. Rather have a nicely centered, White page 7.5 than a Cream 8.5 that only shows it as an "ANGE TALES" issue. Later PHM issues (62-63) are sporadically available at 8.5 and higher. But there is a big price curve for anything labeled in the top few price grades as was mentioned earlier. Seeing a great deal of alternative company high grade PHM books in the last few months as well, so keeping track of the data has been more challenging. Either way, patience is a virtue with these critters -bc
  7. Groot should have wrapped his root.... -bc His root? I'd tap that. I'm not gonna touch that with a ten foot pole... -bc
  8. Groot should have wrapped his root.... -bc
  9. It is a great cover. One of my faves from JIM. I didn't even notice the boat until I counted the people on the water tower in response to that other post (though I have always wondered what they were doing there). It's a cover that would definitely make me pay my dime for the comic. I'd bet that most of these covers take some artistic license for the sake of creating drama, perspective being the most often bruised. But I'd rather look at pre-hero Marvel covers than any other SA books I can think of. Yeah - more smashing of buildings and vehicles ! This one is missing the Kirby monster pants and the obligatory pointing person, but it does have the man-in-a-hat covered. Wonder what the guy at the left foot of the monster is trying to do...is it an old man yelling "get off my lawn"? -bc
  10. Go ahead and post that beauty everywhere! Congratz on fulfilling a grail! -bc
  11. Gorgeous book ! And the truck driver in me also appreciated the "10-4" cover date. Transmission truly received! -bc
  12. Traded a couple of Avengers books for a 3 issue JIM run: -bc
  13. Very cool copy! Always wondered what the lady (?) on Mummex's back was trying to do. -bc
  14. Gratz on the pickups! Both great covers! -bc
  15. Great pick up back at ya! Plus you get a CVA sticker! Totally missed that one, glad a fellow boardie snagged it -bc
  16. Love the Devil-Bird cover! It's like an early predecessor of the PHM titles. (Not to knock the labyrinth, but I think that guy could easily hop the walls.) Thanks for sharing ! -bc
  17. Awesome book! Grabbed his younger brother in the recent CLink auction: Thanks to this thread, I'm up to 6 Timely's now. Does that qualify as passing from stage 1 addiction (experimentation) to stage 2 (social/regular usage)? -bc
  18. This weeks ComicLink auction saw some solid PHM sales: JIM54 CGC8.0 $2,322 ST89 CGC7.0 $2,450 ST95 CGC9.2 $2,988 TOS14 CGC8.5 $1,399 TOS15 CGC8.5 $1,899 TOS18 CGC8.0 $1,299 TTA3 CBCS9.2 $2,978 TTA10 CGC7.5 $1,299 I was the underbidder on the JIM54, ST95, TOS15 - hope fellow boardies grabbed those beauties! I left the ST89 early but like the fact that it is trending down so I may be able to pickup a VF copy one day The fact that I got smoked early made me get a bit more aggressive later on. Snagged the TOS14, TOS18 and TTA10 for my vault: Some old label goodness: One of my favorite covers: -bc
  19. Snagged this one off the 'bay last night: -bc
  20. Wow! Another gorgeous cover ! Like the A.C.M.P. logo on that issue. Thanks! -bc
  21. The water ripples reflecting on the sub push this from a good cover to fantastic! (thumbs u +1 Fantastic coloring on the cover down to the purple shadowing on the divers ! Thanks for sharing that beauty !! -bc
  22. Keeping in the same title... I got this because I dorked up my "$3.00" tracking bid - accidentally forgot the decimal point (alcohol may have been a factor). On the plus side, it was the only CLINK auction where I led from day 1 to close. -bc
  23. Beautiful book ! Gonna have to find a copy to read The Slug story...how tough is it to out run a slug after all??? -bc
  24. Picked this pair of 51's up this weekend at a garage sale mixed in with some magazines. Put on your sunglasses as there is a bit of glare... The Astonishing 51 is really nice, the Uncanny Tales 51 has some cover chipping at the top but overall very solid. Couldn't pass them up for 25 cents each. -bc
