  1. Love all the Namora covers! Couple of Timely's I snagged from CLink this week. Bought this as much for the back cover as the front cover. This was too hard to pass up at at 1/2 guide: -bc
  2. I managed to snag one of the 12 PHM Strange Tales I was watching in last nights CLink auction: The ST75 & 96 went for a pretty penny at $2,300 & $2,100 respectively. -bc
  3. Found this one hiding at the Lake Effect Comic Con in Mentor, Ohio yesterday: The show was actually very comic book focused and the best part was it had free admisssion! Thanks to 1Cool for the heads up about the show! -bc
  4. Let's see for JIM76 - Pricing Variant Non-SS books: 9.4 = 1 9.2 = 1 9.0 = 1 8.5 = 2 8.0 = 1 7.5 = 2 7.0 = 2 6.5 = 0 6.0 = 0 5.5 = 3 5.0 = 2 4.5 = 0 4.0 = 0 3.5 = 1 3.0 = 1 that's it for Universal, there's only 1 SS @ 3.0 Total Graded Universal = 17 Total Graded SS = 1 Total Graded = 18 For the NON-Variant, there's only 13 Universal & 1 Qualified for a total graded count of 14. Variant is +4 right now. -bc
  5. Speaking of TTA, added another to the vault: -bc
  6. Not in high grade they're not! I'll second that emotion! -bc
  7. A sweet PHM strategically decorated by Stan's signature: http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMAZING-ADULT-FANTASY-7-CGC-9-2-SS-STAN-LEE-SINGLE-HIGHEST-SS-COPY-1278791002-/311334669998?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item487cfe0eae -bc
  8. Cool pickups! You’re building a nice PHM collection for just jumping in 11 pages/1 month ago! -bc
  9. Very Nice copy of the first issue that finally started to respect our mature readers' intelligence! Always liked the use of the grey scale on the crowd except for the kid and just showing the back of the monster. All that and the "Stan Lee + S. Ditko" on the cover make this one of my favorites! -bc PS - Is that a Peter Parker cameo on the cover all the way to the right or just a stock Ditko figure?
  10. She' is one VERY gorgeous book! (I feel like I'm cheating because I typically solicit the Pre-Hero Marvels thread). -bc
  11. Not sure if others have seen this, but I found it interesting: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/ditkomania/conversations/topics/3314 It also got me looking into the Post-PHM legacy on the GCD: "I'm struck by the fact that TOS #54 (June 1964) was special for a reason previously unknown to me -- it carried the last Marvel (non-series) fantasy 5-pager of the early 1960s: "Skrang Strikes Tonight!" by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber & Ayers. The final non-series 5-pagers in the other anthologies came earlier: Strange Tales #113 (Oct. 1963; which had two fantasy back-ups including one by Lee & Ditko), Tales to Astonish #54 (April 1964) and Journey into Mystery #104 (May 1964). The end of an era!" So TOS54 appears to be the end of the line if you extend "PHM" and exclude the Tales of the Watcher/Wasp/Asgard stories. Sorry if I'm re-hashing something discussed pages ago, lost track of all the rabbit holes this single thread has taken me in this hobby! -bc
  12. My copies are rags to your riches Ditto. I think if you added the grades for my RK #22 and TGK #107 together you might get close to a 7.5. Great books that definitely belong in this thread! These books are totally amazing to me - never realized that there was a PHM-Western cross-over connection! Thanks for the continuing education credits! -bc
  13. Cool books Frisco ! I like your taste. It seems like I see more of the Pricing Variant on the 76 than the regular edition. The census does not distinguish between the two so it's difficult to say. I feel like I see more of the variant too. Since it is on the label CGC ought to be able to add a slot for the variant in the pre-hero JIM set. I think it's time to make a request... I did request a separate slot in the registry for the pricing variant, and Gemma came through! She said it would take about a week for the registry to update with the splitting of #76 into variant and non-variant, and then she can add the slot. So now we will get to see the ratio in the books that are graded. Thank you very much ! -bc
  14. Thanks Jim! Amazing Adventures 3 & 4 continue to be elusive in high-grade for me. Here's the set in progress: -bc
  15. Great books Frisco! Thansk for sharing! Picked this one up over the winter: -bc
  16. That's a real clean copy ! Not many of those in the census. Great addition! -bc
  17. Really nice copy of a tough book ! So glad it featured "The Living Lizard". The Dead Lizard version didn't do so well in the focus group testing I hear. -bc
  18. Outrageous copies !!! All of them have superb page quality & excellent alignment. Bonus to see the two pedigrees represented in one post! Thanks for sharing those beauties! -bc
  19. I know someone already said this, but WOW !!! Fantastic examples and the page quality is out of this world. Thanks for posting those rare gems! -bc
  20. Congratulations on finding that treasure ! Really nice centering and the page quality is fantastic ! -bc
  21. I've been around since page 1 of this thread and don't remember an answer for this: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=8088462&fpart=5 Is there a definitive location/document that we attribute to coining the phrase "pre-hero Marvel"? -bc
  22. Applaud your persistence in building that beautiful set! -bc

  24. Looks 8-ish-tic ! Beautiful copy Rick! There are only 20 in the Census for that issue and that certainly is up there among the best! Let's see how long it takes for everyone's submissions to get thru grading and hit the census. From the sound of it, we should have at least 22 more copies added in the next year or two. -bc It's not Rick's copy...it's Kirby Jack's (Jack's) copy! It would be mine, when he sells it to me. Sorry 'bout that Let me try to redeem myself... couple of recent pickups near the end of the PHM run:
