  1. hulk 180 7.5 CR/OW $500 +bp = 625 Hulk 181 7.5 CR/OW 2400 + bp = $3k
  2. Nothing I hate more than watching an online auction where all reason and market knowledge has gone out the window... or the person bidding has forgotten the buyer's premium that will be added. I've just watched some ...body.... bid 1200$ for a Spidey 129 in 7.5 with Cream/OW pages. And the buyer's premium is a whopping 25% on top of that = $1500. Many of the lots are going for full GPA, before the commission. The rest w/commission are hitting full or just under GPA. Good job by the seller.
  3. As the winner of the auction, in this case, you have the pleasure of adding 25% to the price you bid. So, you bid 32,500...you actually pay 40,625. Now, in the case of Heritage and ComicLink my experience as a seller is that they take the final price, and they take 10% off that... so would send the consignor (40625 x .9) around 36,500. If I'm wrong or have missed anything, please correct me. Thx! That commission rate is another reason to really pay attention/check before you bid. 25% is very high, but I have seen 28 and 32% once.
  4. 25% commission is nothing to sneeze at. Not sure the X-men 1 in 4.5 was a good idea for buyer at $6875
  5. Starts in an hour. Detective #1 is item 5, and #2 is item 10....
  6. Take a quick look on liveauctioneers ; they have a history on the site going back 15+ years. The premium of 25% is a little off-putting, though. Seems Alderfer's leans towards art, antiques....and estates. Judging by the age gap of the books, it looks like generations. To me, this looks like a couple of collections put together, but I'm not complaining.
  7. Hi all! Rolling a lot of my collection out, many sold on c-link in December, have more that were delayed to both the auction starting today, and some in Feb. I'd held this back, but decided to let it go as well. SO: Higher-grade Golden Age Key up on the Bay. **NO RESERVE** It's been a while since one with this grade went, let's see what happens. Ends Jan 16th 10~ish PM ET. Any questions, just ask. I call it the Longhorn copy due the "Longhorn ....." store stamp on the back cover. It's quite nice, graded at 7.5 with Light Tan/Off-white pages. In my opinion it's the page quality and the stamp that brought this down to a 7.5. There's also a tiny color loss/dimple at the top right above the 'DC' symbol, right near the corner. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Batman-47-DC-1948-CGC-7-5-LT-OW-Origin-of-BATMAN-the-Longhorn-copy/132913113560?hash=item1ef23d29d8:g:xjIAAOSwKqpcNYEa:rk:1:pf:0
  8. Ha! That was one of mine as well - and one of the ones I thought was soft (Sensation 99 the other). I expected that to go for a good bit more. Maybe should have waited for the next movie to come out.
  9. "WDC&S nn (1943) -- went for 5 times guide "... well, I hope the new owner enjoys my book. I chose this auction to put it in basically because of the time of the year - with the Christmas cover. I had 2 copies that I picked up together a few years and then had graded ...3 years ago(?) bringing the census up to 13 copies. The other was a 6 or 6.5 that I sold last summer I think - and it being 2nd highest graded didn't hurt, 'tis the season! I had 5 GA up in this auction;I was VERY happy with the WDCS, another book went within 15$ of where I expected it to sell, so solid there, 2 books were soft, and the last book went for 20% less than I hoped. Mixed bag. I'm hoping January will be interesting, as I had sent another 20+ books in while the auction was starting, and they held back 15 more books I had sent in, apparently for next auction too.
  10. Fairly rare... sold a few hours ago on Comiclink:
  11. I'd second the remark made about the recent stock market volatility; the drop was recent and large enough to have maybe caused some people to pump their brakes right before the holidays. You got to be able to get that GI Joe with the kung-fu grip, after all.
  12. Hi folks...trolling the boards again as an auction unfolds...I'm looking at some art pieces for now, selling a few books in this one.
  13. Saw him in Raleigh at Supercon, and he I think was charging $20 for witnessed signatures, $5 or less otherwise. I got a few Inifinty Gauntlet #1 signed, and then a blank. He went a uh, bit too far on the blank - put on a huge, looping 3" x 5" sig. Like... how the hell am I going to be able to get an artist to work around that?
  14. Yeah. Seriously. I was in line briefly, and steered a few people with books over to other areas, after they thought the witness line was actually people wtg for grading. There were 5-6 people singly trying to get info or drop books etc, while there were 7 or 8 people in 1 line, wtg for witnesses. I did hear of a few people abusing the witnesses, going from artist to artist to artist, tying up 1 witness for over an hour or so, if not two.
  15. Great convention. Had a nice time chatting to Declan Shalvey for about 10 minutes or so Friday evening, and spent most of the weekend rolling around, getting books signed for my own satisfaction. I was really surprised at being able to walk right up to Tim Sale with no line, to sign a few books, and same with Stelfreeze, Robbi Rodriguez, Joelle Jones and others. The only lines I abandoned were for Steranko (who I circled around to later, twice), and Jerry Ordway on Sunday, as he was running late and the art auction was starting again at 130. I got one piece. I was sorry to hear that a few artists got hit by the American flight glitches and couldn't make the weekend, or were forced to show up late Saturday for Sunday only. SO HAPPY that a huge Whole Foods has opened down the block from the Westin and still across the street from the convention center; I had breakfast there both mornings, wathincg World Cup while knocking back grub and stocking drinks and snacks in my carry-bag for the day. Always a lot of fun, and looking forward to hitting the travelling side-show in Raleigh called Supercon, July 28th weekend. If anyone is considering making a long weekend of it... take Friday off and show up Thursday. Lauryn Hill is performing at Red Hat Amphitheater, which is across the street from the convention center that night - the 26th.
  16. Hey guys, will be attending as well! On a more serious note, the Ultimate Comics chain of 3 shops around Raleigh were ALL broken into Monday night, smashing straight in the front doors. Thief/thieves stole a ton of their high end books, smashing displays etc, and made off with other items. Early info is that they hit one shop, then drove 20 minutes, hit the next, and another 15 to 20 minutes to hit the last. A list might be up on their website, and they have a dual booth for Heroes Con, but be on the lookout for some books being shipped, with a theft that big occurring soon before a big nearby show. ☹️
  17. <SKEPTICISM>. This is hitting me hard, after CCS contacted me directly to advise that the single book I sent in for pressing, in its slabbed 7.0 condition, had a spine split open, and was going , uh, no longer even be a 7. It came back as a 5.5. Considering how valuable the book was, I was livid. For that dis-satisfaction, I also had to pay, as well for grading. All I got was a "things happen, oops, no recourse" email from CCS. I'm more pissed right now because I just got a Wonder Woman 105 sent back to me with a 1/4 spine split. Not 1/4". Nope. FULL 1 quarter of the spine split. Same with another, much earlier WW. Anyone else having similar issues?
  18. Funny you should mention the collector/provenance. If anyone out there has picked up a run of high-grade Planet Comics (1-20-ish), some early 4-colors, Classics Illustrated, Flash, Batman, Detective... many with the name "Sally Wharton" or "Sally" written on the covers... well, raise a glass to her memory. Those all came from her family auctioning off the comic collection the summer of '14 that they found after finally getting around to cleaning out her house, a few years after she passed away. Aside from the big books, the one that stood out for me was a ..Ibis? the Magician? book that was easily a 9.4 that had her name very neatly written in cursive across the cover. That and an Andy Panda 4-color (blue cover) looked like they just came off the shelf.
  19. + Walt Simonson + Louise Simonson + Orlando Jones - yes, the actor! + Tom Fleming
  20. Stumbled across these, thought y'all would enjoy / be interested:
  21. This is not mine. It is offered for sale at Weiss auction 2/14, along with a good portion of Joe Kubert's estate.
