  1. I think this is a reasonable hypothesis. Pulp or not, it's a slick cover by an important GA Canadian artist. Great piece!
  2. Looks like I missed that Super Comics during the auction too. For $501 that was a steal. Congrats!
  3. Reflecting on the results from the past few days, I think a few things are quite clear (nothing profound, but worth recapping): 1. Bell Features books continue to be strong. It looks like some record prices were achieved. 2. The love for Nelvana has definitely translated into high dollars. Triumph # 7! Wow. I'll be eating crow for a while for my prediction for that one. 3. This is also true for the other Bell Features superhero stuff: Speed Savage, the Wing and the Penguin did particularly well. 4. By comparison, the books featuring Dixon, Rex Baxter and even Johnny Canuck did not seem to garner the same amount of interest as the superhero stuff. Dime Comics 1 did very well, but other issues had underwhelming results compared to the costumed crimefighters. I see this as underwhelming because most of the issues of Wow were later (compared to the earlier issues of Dime). Mind you, the Wow issues had higher grades overall, which may be the real explanation for the success of the Penguin in particular here. 5. The Commando Comics impressed, but this is likely due to their incredibly high grades. 6. On the other hand, the Canadian Heroes did not do so well despite being a 9.0. The Canada Jack One-Shot also failed to crack $1000. Does this mean that the Educational Projects books are flying under the radar? It's too small of a sample size to be sure. 7. The Anglo-American books did not garner as much interest either. None cracked $1000. I though that Freelance # 2 would at least hit that mark. 8. The Lightning Comics 10 might have been the steal of the auction for WECA books. 9. The Victory, on the other hand, went well above what I expected. Lesson of the night: if Stephen doesn't have it and wants it, he's going for it. Congrats on adding such an awesome piece to your trove, buddy! 10. Savvy buying by Bronty and Dave (wish you had been able to get that Tang upgrade, pal). Nice job scooping up the books that fell through the cracks at lower prices guys! Totally digging the Mole cover on Triumph 29 (I hadn't seen one before the auction and compared to the other Triumphs you didn't break the bank). 11. The only Maple Leafs book, featuring my favourite Brok Windsor cover, sold for well below my expectations. I can't believe that it did not hit $1000 in 6.5. With this being the only Maple Leafs book in the auction it's hard to say whether or not this shows a weakness in Maple Leaf prices. Not enough data to make a claim either way. Yet, with Brok getting the reprint treatment by Hope Nicholson, he is a name character and this was a particularly weak result IMO. 12. Despite prices continuing to climb as a result of the increased interest in Canadian books, there were still deals to be had. For the uninitiated, some of the grades would not have been attention grabbers. In reality, the grades on many of these books were phenomenal. I don't know if any of my books would even receive a 5.0 from CGC. 13. Moving into the September auction, there is still a sizeable number of books to come. A lot more Bell Features stuff and some Anglo-American (with a Maple Leaf or two in the mix). The grades on these are much lower than the auction we just witnessed and there are not nearly the number of keys in the next batch. Whether or not the momentum continues remains to be seen, but I expect the prices in the September auction to be significantly lower than what we witnessed over the past few days. Thoughts, opinions?
  4. Congratulations to everyone who had some wins. Some stunning books! No wins for me this time. I wanted to get some of the Penguin issues of Wow, but they got too rich for my blood because of the high grades. Hopefully, I will win some new books when the Anglo-Americans pop up in the next auction.
  5. I love that you always seem to have the right picture hiding up your sleeve!
  6. On the other end of the spectrum, I must say that the Anglo-American stuff is not getting the love it deserves. I think I'm okay with that for now, as it means I can afford more. Just saving my money for raw copies.
  7. Even if it doesn't budge, it's already an incredible result.
  8. Looks like my prediction was way off on that one.
  9. Since Voldemort is already taken (and would have been a good code for a British grading company), maybe we can call these Daleks or Sontarans or Autons (some kind of code with a British-ism).
  10. juggernaut indicated the he might know whose collection it is in another thread. Hopefully we will get some insight into this once the auction ends.
  11. Bidding just got serious on the Dime Comics # 1.
  12. The Triumph 7 to me is a bit of a wildcard, as I could not find any previous sales data for a complete one (let me know if you have seen one sell other than the 0.5 CLINK had). I see it as a wildcard because I consider it one of the iconic WECA covers and everyone seems horny over Nelvana. Yet, at 2.0 it could have a soft ending. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if it ends around $2500. For me it will be interesting to see if the Triumph 12 or 21 end higher than the 7 due to their grades. Fair points on your prediction for the Nelvana one-shot. We'll know for sure tomorrow night.
  13. I am sort of feeling the same way, but I've spent all the money I had earmarked on a couple of vintage toy collections that have come my way this week (including a few toy grails that fell into my lap). I fully expected the Nelvana to hit 10k when the auction started. It's not even half that right now. Still a couple of days left, so there might be a few shockers. Even so, most of what sold last night went for around or less than I expected. Right now, the Commando Comics # 4 is the only one that I find really surprising, but at 9.2 maybe not. If the Freelance issues sell for around the current list price I will probably spend the rest of the week complaining about it! Regardless, it's going to be interesting to compare these results to the two 2014 CLINK auctions once everything is said and done.
  14. The seller had this one on eBay for $1000 CDN and relisted it a couple of times, I see that the price was lowered and sold today. Hope you were the person who snagged this for your collection. Anyone notice what some of the WECA books sold for on CLINK last night? I'm interested in your thoughts and opinions.
  15. I've got to say that I like the artist who did the cover of the Horror Crime Cases. Here's a couple of book covers Harold Bennett did: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_U2csUtIjKsI/S8Yw4rUauVI/AAAAAAAABpM/TrThg03C2tg/s1600/Randall+-+Seven+Yellow+version.jpg http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UxHtEvNcSXk/T0EACW20nvI/AAAAAAAAEnc/M0oChO9LAOQ/s1600/White+Circle+354.jpg
  16. This is the first time that I have seen a picture of a Rucker pulp and I love the cover on this, Stephen. I didn't realize that you went for pulps. Given that it's a Rucker, though, you probably won't see this one again anytime soon. So, are you going to start hunting for some of the other, elusive Rucker crime pulps?
  17. I'm not convinced that we will see Namorita on screen before Namor himself. I wouldn't bet on this book.
  18. Purchased Punch Comics #30, Boots and Saddle # 32, Wonder Woman #23 and Complete Mystery #2 from "thehumantorch" via pm and everything arrived quickly and looks great. Expertly packaged and a complete pleasure doing business: the man's a class act. Thanks again for everything!
