  1. About a year ago I bid $999 on this Mandy illo by Dean Yeagle. I was a “little bummed” about getting sniped out of the win. I even asked the auction house to offer the winner a profit (a few hun) but that didn’t work. So last night I snagged it on HA for under $500. Warning: contains nudity http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1440848 That's a great pick up. Dean does awesome work and you got a true bargain. I think he charges around $1400-2000 for pieces of that size. mostly sell to European buyers from what he has told me at conventions past. The only thing I would say is that when it comes to art featuring nudity, the buyer pool is smaller since hanging that stuff up - is not acceptable in all households. Even if its appreciated by art fans.
  2. having the estimates posted in advance will help for comparison sake -but at the same time - as with the comic art ads heritage weekly estimates - the only problem I see is that posting pre-estimates creates a subjective anchor. Whenever heritage for example has auction estimates, or anyone has any kind of estimate -that number will influence the final outcome. this is a proven (by experiment) phenomenon. check out the short link below, and if you find it interesting -check out Dan Ariely's new book Dollars and Sense which goes over this stuff in a much deeper way. The anchoring effect is especially likely for items whose price is more subjective. anchoring effect video money sense book talk
  3. Great page. Now that CAT is working well - I am sure it will be far less than 2 years before you find another piece of art you want to add to the collection.
  4. Another great podcast. With regards to holding back the episode till after the auction - I wonder if the final price would have been higher if the podcast was released earlier. With the idea being that any publicity is good publicity. Especially since the elektra cover itself was bought properly .
  5. I love Sean Murphy. Batman, like spider-man is a solid character to collect when it comes to comic art. He is the most popular character for DC. There will always be fans. That said - one can't predict what a future generation will consider important. Speculating is ok - if that is your goal, but personally - I stopped speculating and started buying only what I love.
  6. Personally I avoid blue line inks unless the art was pencilled digitally and there is no pencil page in existance. If there are 2 versions - that defeats the attractiveness to me. I like the idea that art is one of a kind. My
  7. I am in canada. Would love to know what the jim lee and wieringo items are. Or if any of the other items are cool splashes or covers. My caf
  8. so if you haven't used comic art tracker yet, you should. Never would have seen this awesome selection before. and check out the price estimates. If you have bid at auctions with Huberty Breyne, please share your experience. auction link
  9. Awesome frazetta page! congrats big time. wondering what the addams piece is that you got? would also love to see the matt baker. are these on caf?
  10. maybe Mitch could chime in - but I think he had it available for less than hammer price at his booth at comic con in the summer. It is a fairly large piece of art and memorable if you were collecting during that period.
  11. wow. 16.5 k for the jim lee watercolor it was offered as buy it now on clink for 15k. jim lee wolverine psylocke
  12. Personally just looking forward to this weeks auction. If you are worried - my collection thanks you in advance for not bidding.
  13. The fact that you can see it means most of us can see it. If I were bidding on this one I would have already emailed to comfirm. Recently there was a piece at HA that may have been fake - but it sold anyway for a nice sum. I think as collectors we cant put 100% trust in the auction company. We need to pay attention to the details and ask questions where there are doubts.
  14. It's hard to say if the Tellos cover went at a good price or not. It's the first one I have seen come to market in many years, if ever. In fact, if anyone has one to sell - send me a pm. His DC and Marvel work features popular characters, but Tellos has always been more of an niche series. Coincidentally another cover sold at HA sunday after the Clink focused auction for less than 50%. so maybe it went too high?
  15. Is the art just cut up comics then (paper) with a coat on top? Its hard to tell from photo?
  16. Perhaps I missed it - but did you guys make the chair tops/table top yourself - and how?
  17. I had exactly one bad experience like this on ebay. I moved on. Life is too short and there will always be something else coming up that you enjoy.
  18. There is an upcoming animstion art auction with lots of disney in it. Ha animation art auction
  19. Is this from the Married with Children comics? It looks a lot like Peggy.
  20. Thanks for continuing with these. With regards to discrepency between sunday HA and CLink Focused - is some of the difference explained by buyer premium of 19%? The other thought I have is - did the original buyer overpay in the first place. While vintage (bronze and earlier) art seems to be going up at a fast rate - average pieces from the past 25 years may not be? In general - would love to hear from others - but modern stuff doesnt generally seem to do well at auction. With many of the higher prices coming from sales by the artist pr artist rep. Does anyone else (dis)agree with that?
  21. I like Barrtto - and to me- some of his line work/technique reminds me a bit of Brian Bolland. Those are awesome examples above.
