Cool stuff. Such a great artist.

    Quick story…

I owned a magic store in the mid 80s. One of the books we sold was called “Steranko on Cards”. A quite advanced card magic book. The author’s name was Jim Steranko. I asked around with folks that I thought would know and all said it wasn’t the same guy.

Some years later Steranko is at the comic con in Michigan. I approach him and tell the story of the book. He shakes his head and say no that’s not me. I said “Yea Milt Kort said he didn’t think it was you”. I barely got out the word “said” and Jim interrupted me with “How’s old Milt doin? I haven’t seen him in years…” He now had a big smile on his face and confirmed what I always hoped was true.

Do you have the other two volumes that he wrote on magic:  his 1962 STACKED DECK and 1964 STERANKO ON ESCAPES ?  Both were published as the majority of two issues of Genii Magazine.  I have both and can list them here.

Hahaha... Don't know why Jim denied it, he's happy to claim credit for his work.  Milt used a Jim Steranko illustration for the cover of his book!

My previously mentioned Matt Fox splash back from the framer.

I LOVE this!  Great splash page!   I wish Marvel would reprint all of these stories inked by Fox.   Or if I could find a bunch of dirty, coverless copies that I could make into a bound volume!

Yep. Even back when @fifties and I got our copies, PCH wasn’t very desirable but this one didn’t turn up much. At that time it wasn’t worth much but everyone who had one hung on to it. Iconic book. Even now, with what it’s worth, I still wouldn’t part with it. I would rather sell off other stuff if I wanted money. I know it might be quite a while before I found another and would never be able to rationalize the cost of replacement. I’m sure most folks with copies feel the same way about it.

Same here, I would never part with mine, even with it being in very low grade.  It's a must have classic cover PCH book.  One of the first that really grabbed my attention.

I bought my copy a million years ago from the American Comic Book Company. They listed it as a "Classic Injury to the Eye" cover. Not as bad as this one, but equally horrifying...

This is a really tough book... it took me quite a while to find my low grade copy about twenty years ago. Even when printed small in the CBG auctions of the 90s or in Gerber, it was very striking.  It's been a highly-desirable classic cover for a long time.

That's probably Everett with an unusual inking.

But for Matt Fox fans Twomorrows is releasing a dedicated book about him in September and you can preorder here.

This is great news.... I just wrote Twomorrows to get the contact info of the author to see if he is interested in including additional material.  If anyone has anything unusual that they would like to share, please let me know.

Fox over Lieber.  I have the splash for this story also, but it's at the framer.

Super!  I wish we could have a reprint volume of all these Lieber/Fox.  Too small an audience, I'm sure.  Low grade copies of the books will still be too costly for me to get them all.

The painting was commissioned by publisher John C. Winston as hard cover dust jacket for the 1954 novel Trouble On Titan by Alan E. Nourse...

Note: I don't have a copy of the novel, but located this image.

The novel was reprinted in '86 as an Ace paperback and by Simon & Shuster's Prologue SF line (ePub), but in both cases with different art.

Printed cover looks good, but the original painting is sublime.

Apologies for any images reposted from earlier in this thread (haven't gone back through all 50+ pages) ...but still there's more!

The color in this Alex Schomburg painting is just awesome.  I've seen pulp/digest covers by him that were nice, but this is really exceptional.

I have seen one Everett on a piece of OA. I have also seen Hollingsworth on a couple comics. Interesting note. Baker gets attention among other things because he was black. Hollingsworth was also black and working around the same time as Baker.

All of these people are near impossible to have signed items.

I tried to come up with some really tough ones.  I think that if these signatures existed, they might have been artist to a friend or artist to a family member.

Good point about Hollingsworth.  He was a terrific artist, and very innovative.  He did some very unusual page compositions.
