  1. That Blue Bolt 111 is in great condition! It's one of my favorite Cole covers, due to the great color, but it's a hard issue to find in high grade.
  2. rjpb... STT #11 is out there... it's not an impossible book in low grade. It's kept in collections, but they do come up every once in a while. I don't think any Star book is truly rare.
  3. Hey POV! Guess what.... we don't have the worst Startling Terror Tales #11.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2280699128&fromMakeTrack=true Funny thing is, I'd still bid on this if I didn't have one!
  4. There are a number of covers that Cole did in the 40s that make absolutely no sense to me. That's one of them!
  5. "Go ask my last girlfriend what happened when she complained about me spending $200 on a beat up comic book" "You'll find her buried in the backyard!" (just a joke, fellas)
  6. P.S.: the censorship on this board is ridiculous. This is what I said above: B I T C H E S
  7. If any girlfriend hounds me to sell any of my records or comics, or [#@$%!!!] about how much they cost, she's history.
  8. Thanks, Jayman... I'll be adding more in the future...
  9. and look at this nasty panel! The woman may be some kind of reanimated dead, but still.... she's getting smashed in the nose with a hammer! Check out the flying teeth!
  10. Check out this cool Rudy Palais artwork in the same book....
  11. Here's a recent purchase.... a really nice Fine+ copy of Weird Terror #5, which is probably my favorite of Don Heck's covers in the run. Some wild interior stuff, too... I'll include some panels here.
  12. I love the Terrors of the Jungle 17 cover... one of my favorites! It's got everything! Natives, shrunken heads, woman in bondage, etc.
  13. Holy [#@$%!!!]! The colors on that book are blinding me! P.S.: Why is this site censoring "C R A P"???
  14. hahaha, thanks Pov I'd like to add other issues of Suspense Comics with Cole covers to my collection, but like I said, they are tough in a decent grade, and obviously very expensive.
  15. An L.B. Cole cover thread wouldn't be complete without this one... it's a 2.0, but the cover image is real nice. Almost all the defects are related to the brittle spine. This book is tough as hell in anything above VG... the Suspense Comics spines are notoriously bad. It seems like the paper used for the covers was of pretty low quality.
  16. I really wish that the Blue Bolt 105 cover didn't have word balloons, text, or the banner on the left side of the cover. It's one of Cole's best, but it's compromised by all that stuff on the cover.... thankfully he did a bunch of classic covers without it.
  17. The STT #11 is pretty rough due to a spine roll, a tear in the middle of the cover and some soiling, but I was still thrilled to be able to buy it for $25. I don't think my LCS owner realized how in-demand the book is. He probably just put guide price on it at Good or less. At this point, I don't plan on upgrading it because there are so many other books I want to get.
  18. Horrors of Mystery #13, an underrated L.B. cole gem! This copy was purchased this summer in raw 6.5
  19. Hey Pov, don't feel bad... My STT #11 is a beater, too! I got this one for a song at my LCS ($25) about five years ago.
  20. Wow! Not only great examples of Cole's work, but some high quality books, too! I'll be adding some more later...
  21. As per Dr. Banner's suggestion, we definitely need a discussion of L.B. Cole's best covers. I know we each have our own favorites, but the cover to Mask Comics #1 was the one that made me want to start collecting his work. My favorite Cole covers are the ones with bright colors and black backgrounds... (such as Contact 12, Mask 2, etc.). This particular copy is pretty sharp... the negatives are restricted almost exclusively to the spine which has a bunch of small creases and breaks. A tiny piece of the lower right corner is missing also. Other than that, it's very flat, sharp and glossy. I probably overpaid a bit about eight years ago, but who didn't when Cole was super hot back then?
  22. Buscema's covers to Silver Surfer #4, FF #112 and Sub-Mariner #8 are simply beautiful. Three of the greatest ever, in my opinion.
