  1. Here's another latest addition to my run of Haunted Thrills. This is issue #12 in 6.0 condition. I love the logo design on this one. The Farrell books have some very unusual cover concepts, and this is one that I like a lot. I'm working on a #7 which I hope to have soon as well. Getting closer....
  2. Great Baily covers... there's no bigger fan of his work than I am. I still need to add his Beware Terror Tales covers to my collection.
  3. The "Berk copy"? Are you the original owner?
  4. By the way, I just checked out Jon's photos of his Ricca covers on the Comic Art Fans site. All I have to say is WOW WOW WOW! Great stuff!
  5. Great post and very kind of Jon to show you his collection.
  6. Nice Amazing Detective #14.... never saw that cover before. I wish Atlas did more full-bleed covers like that one.
  7. Keith, I LOVE the "Truevision" books.... The black pages are great! Hey Jayman, nice WM #5! There's no bigger fan of that issue than me.... beautiful Wolverton story, excellent anti-Wertham essay, and in my opinion, the best cover of the pre-code horror era.
  8. Thanks.... I have another one that I'll be posting soon. I actually bid on that FF #5, but decided to go for a complete copy. I think I'll be able to get a VG copy for about a couple hundred, which isn't that bad.
  9. Here's one of the newest additions to my collection, a Haunted Thrills 2 in about 5.0 condition. I'm building a collection of Ajax-Farrell Haunted Thrills (versus the other Ajax titles) in 5.0 - 6.0 because I love many of the covers in the run, particularly #5, 6, 7, 8 and 10. I will probably end up collecting all the Ajax pre-code horror books, but will probably do Voodoo, Fantastic Fears and Strange Fantasy in about 4.0 instead of 5.0 - 6.0. The Fantastic Fears #5 in 6.0 would be more than I'd want to spend, and a Voodoo Annual in anything higher than VG- (same grade as the copy I have) would be tough as hell. I'm already having trouble finding a few Haunted Thrills issues in higher than 4.0. We'll see how this plays out. If I'm patient, I think I'll be able to do a nice set.
  10. DC was pushing the envelope, but where are the exposed brain and injury to eye stories? I do like BA House of Mysteries and House of Secrets though....
  11. As far as I'm concerned, there's no comparison between BA and 50's horror. I'll take the latter without exception. I'm a fan of Wrightson and a few other artists that worked for DC in the early 70s, but as far as the stories go, I'll take the 50's material every time...they were much more perverse.
  12. For $25, that's a steal! I'd love to find a low-grade copy. I saw a detached cover copy that was selling for around $300.
  13. There are so many Atlas covers that would have been much better had they gotten rid of that stupid 3 small frame / 1 large frame design. Covers that aren't full bleed drive me crazy...
  14. Those HG BA collectors may tire of those books and move on to the classic 50's material. That's when we could see a spike in prices.
  15. Nice Adventures into Darkness cover.... That Beware Terror Tales #8 cover is one of my favorites in the run!
  16. Hey Keith... When I first posted the "Recent Pre-Code Purchases" thread, I didn't plan on it lasting for so long... I thought I was just going to post a few of my new books and then the thread would fade into obscurity. Since the thread has such a huge amount of posts in it now and is now pinned at the top of the GA forum list, how about we ask Arch to change the title from "Recent Pre-Code Purchases" to simply "Pre-Code Horror" or something like that? This way, everything can be put together. I think a lot of people have been posting their dusty tomes in that thread anyway. This means that we can see everything in one thread instead of having to keep up with two of them with arbitrary separations. What do you think?
  17. Jon, Do you ever take books like your 'Tec 27 out and flip through them?
  18. Thanks, POV! I agree.... I like this cover far more than the War Fury-copied cover of Horrific #3. How that ever became a "classic" cover while something like this is ignored is beyond me.
  19. I have a copy of Horrific #1 in my collection, but I'd consider it to be VG- at best with a couple of tears on interior pages. It's one of my favorite titles (at least the first 3 issues)... love the Iger Studio artwork, the cover and logo. It's a tough book in any condition. The stories in this one are really cool. I came across a new copy over the weekend and grabbed it, knowing that it's tough to find a nice one. It looks to be a VG+ at least, with a flat and very glossy cover and really nice pages.
  20. I would still be a subscriber if the content was more interesting. There was rarely any information on the history of comics. They would be wise to get Michelle Nolan to do a column now that CBM is gone.
  21. Wow.... killer books. Thrilling Crime #49 and STT #11 are both tough books in grade.
  22. Thanks, SH. I'll deserve it if I can find nice copies of Captain Flight #11 and Captain Aero #26 to go with this one. Contact #12, while scarce, is certainly much more plentiful than the other two.
