  1. There are no statuesque, blond, actresses of Austrian descent that can play this role? What's next? We have Jason Statham as T'Challa? I mean, Dark World was awful. This will not help my enthusiasm to see this.

Black Valkyrie? reallly, wtf, another win for the P.C. Fascists...

Eh, I'm a "PC fascist" and I don't consider this a win at all. Just a poor casting decision. Valkyrie's visual identity in the comics is as a platinum blonde -- which is true to the underlying Norse mythology. Brunnhilde is a (real-world) mythological figure being herself, not a cosmic entity inhabiting an avatar (e.g. Thor in the comics).

I fully support inclusive changes when they make sense in the story, but this choice just seems like pandering.

  2. Another one knocked off the list today...the 8th printing of Picture Stories from the Bible Complete Old Testament

It's not particularly unusual to see an 8th printing pop up on eBay (where I snagged this one)...but it is unusual to find one that looks this nice:

I believe that! Looks great for an almost-60 year-old black cover. Its owners weren't as pious as they should have been, else the book would be more worn lol

    Congrats!

  3. WOW! Where did you get those frames from?! They look so pro and clean. I would guess they are for non-slabbed comics. I have so many non-slabbed comics I would love to display.

    +1

Please do tell where you got those frames/who makes them. That's exactly what I'm after as well.

  4. It will always be difficult to buy the key issues, particularly at a price that you can live with. FF 50 has been on my want list for several years. I have turned up my nose at low grade copies that were under $200, but consider books over $400 to be out of my range.

I am a completionist with the titles I collect, so the real holes to me are when I need just one more issue to complete a run. At present, I need just one more issue of Iron Man to complete my run. Is it #1? #55? No. It is #40. Absolutely nothing special about that issue. But I have not found an 8.5 or better copy yet for anywhere near Overstreet. Weird.

Then getcha some of this action!:

  5. I wasn't really ready to take the leap and purchase my grail. I expected that to happen years in the future, if ever, simply because of the cost. Then, the perfect book popped up at the right time...

I'm really psyched to get such a nice cover (that light blotch around Iron Man's knee is just a reflection - the book has nice, even coloring) with *both quotation marks* in such a low grade. Really, just the perfect, affordable book for me.

    Grader's notes:

Front Cover Large Lite Multiple Crease Breaks Color

Full Top Back Cover Lite Multiple Stain

Piece fill cover (Archival material, average quality over 2" x 2") Cover B-5

    Spine Completely Split

My plan is to eventually crack it out, read it (a few times!), take lots of interior photos, and then send it to somebody like Matt for either a better restoration or even an upgrade to Conserved if possible.

    :whee:

  6. I'm married with 4 kids and have owned 100s of af15 lol

It's all relative. But it is generally a BAD idea to debt fund a comic purchase.

    G

Debt funding an AF15 is not a bad idea. Speaking from experience, I 2nd mortgaged a nice AF15 4 years ago. Low interest, paid off quite a bit, and the AF15 is now worth more.

Sure, nobody's ever gotten burned by buying into a bubble market using borrowed money...

Be careful. The old adage is true for everything except housing: if you *have* to borrow money for something, you can't actually afford it. Why does housing get a free pass? Well, you have to have some place to live. That's non-negotiable. And renting is usually a losing proposition compared to purchasing.

Comics are totally discretionary, and discretionary items are the first casualties when economies go south.

  7. A very rare quality find for me at an antique shop (or anywhere for that matter). Paid $86 for this fair copy of Incredible Hulk #3. It's got a missing chunk on the back cover, but at least the front is mostly there and all 32 pages are present.

Good job rescuing that one from the antique shop! That's how I see it, anyway. Books like that belong in peoples' collections or with comics dealers (so they can eventually find appreciative homes), not languishing in some forgotten antique store. I'm more surprised that they weren't asking full Overstreet Mint for it :)

  8. 9 am to 9 pm

that's how a lot of small business owners have to do it

None of the comic/gaming places around here open until 10:00 a.m. or later. Of course, that means you're there before 10:00 a.m. Stores without gaming tables close at 7:00 p.m., +/- an hour. Some are either closed Sundays (not recommended) or have reduced hours (open at noon, close at 5:00 p.m.). So the question is, will you have gaming tables?

First Fafhrd and Gray Mouser in comics. Under rated issue.

I have always liked those characters. The Leiber books are a fun read and the Mignola/Chaykin adaptations are great.

My first D&D adventure was in Lankhmar and the party met Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser ? I saw that issue at the comic store today and didn't look closely enough at it. Pretty cool!
